People trying to say Sniper is OP.

That is pretty much a joke. Sure snipers/gunslingers can do decent damage if they are left alone, but they are pretty easy to take out if you concentrate on them. That is no OP. Maybe they are on par with their limitations of being immobile and their best attacks taking time to actually fire, but in no way are they OP. Does anyone actually think that they compare with marauders or pyrotech powertechs? That is a joke.

DOn't say that a sniper/gunslinger is OP ever. They do their job. That's it. No utility, squishy as hell and white damage.

It sure feels OP to play one after levelling a commando to valor 55 (I threw in the towel at that point). Still pre-50, almost got enough comms for WH weapons when I hit 50 :)

"No utility" is way off the mark though - orbital strike, flash grenade, AE knockback, group shield, armour & healing debuff, interrupt/puschback/charge/pull immunity in cover, complete CC immunity with entrench, diversion (cover-break/acc debuff, marksman only). It blows commando away from a gameplay and survival perspective.

We are quite squishy though and alot of our utility depends on being in cover, and a sniper with all his cooldowns on timer is very vulnerable. Trooper/BH with assault/pyro or gunnery/arsenal are the definitive anti-sniper, so much of their stuff is tech damage.

On the whole I'd say sniper is exactly what a ranged class should be.

They're a pretty well balanced class.

In the pre-50 braket they are quite strong though. Bolster helps them a lot, especially the low level characters. A L10-15 with snipe and ambush is pretty potent b/c of the bolstering. These skills really fall off in effectiveness as you level though and in the 50 braket they're as good as the player behind the keyboard.

Sniper is the best of the ranged DPS, and they are certainly powerful, but not overpowered.

The people who say they are OP are the warriors and powertechs who are so used to being able to destroy Mercs and Sorcs that when they actually face a sniper it is a challenge, one that they will often lose, and as a result whine about it. They are so used to lolstomping the squishy ranged classes.

Having a Merc DPS and a sniper DPS, I actually prefer the Mercs damage output. However Sniper brings so much more to the table in terms of utility and survivability, it's just a lot better to play in the melee-heavy warzone environment.

TL;DR - Snipers aren't OP, Merc and sorc are just weak and need bringing up to snipers level.

I think what it is, is that unlike sorcerers, snipers are pretty good one-on-one against both ranged and melee classes. The only class on my sniper that I stand no chance against in a duel are those DPS operative/scoundrel types. I struggle a bit with Tankassins, but only a bit. Otherwise, I do very well against (frankly) better players.

OTOH, I think a sniper's total damage output potential is probably quite a bit lower than a DPS sorcs, or for that matter, mercs (if the merc is left alone). Or at least that's what I tell myself when a sorc friend often does 180% of my damage on his madness sorc... and then often twice my damage on his powertech....maybe he's just better at this game. :o

I agree with this. I can't find the thread now, but there is one on the watchmen's forum, where their scrapper scoundrel explains about the play style, there are also videos. He clearly says Snipers and GS are his easiest prey, cause they are sitting ducks (in other words, but yes). They sit there in their cover and he just waits them out. When Entrench is blown, he instant kills them with his knockdown thing and back blast and what not. As an assassin and as juggernaut, I've faced ppl like this.

There is nothing worse then being tagteamed by 2 scoundrels/operatives all over the place like this one huttball match I was in. they kill you in 2-3 seconds. You might say "2 against 1, naturally you lose", but 2-3 seconds? thrown down, hit, dead. These 2 operatives always moved together, jumping anyone that ran around alone, it was absolutely brilliant gameplay.

So yes, Operative is a sniper's counter class for sure. There after, tanks, since all shots are deflected and you don't do any damage to them.

As an operative player, I'll have to admit that snipers are the rock to our paper. Especially MM spec - if you are not the best player this world has ever seen, in the most amazin gear anyone has ever had, you're going down. It's so easy, it feels ridiculous.

Ambush knockback? Evasion. Cover Pulse knockback + root? Well, I eat the knockback, but say hi to my friend the Toxin Scan. Trying to run away? Here, have a 50% snare with attached 2s root.Oh, you're rooting me back? Good thing Toxin Scan is off cooldown now. Well, better luck next time. Did I mention that I share a lot of skills with you, so exactly know how to counter them? Oh, and I kick you out of cover on my opener. Yeah, sucks, I know.

I have a harder time with engineering and lethality specced snipers, but Marksmanship is usually a nice, easy and quick kill. Guess it's a good thing I see an average of 1 concealment operative per warzone. Me. Otherwise, playing a sniper would be about as much fun as repeatedly smashing your head on your keyboard.
