What Better Way to Wait for your FP then a Game of Pazaak

Imagine you are waiting in the queue and instead of standing around you could be playing Pazaak. Sure the new missions and new gear are great but what this game really needs is something for the level 50's who are tediously waiting in the q to have something to do.'

The place to set them all up would be in the middle of fleet where the vip lift is. Since few go beyond the railing and down the stairs it would be a fantastic way to add an incredibly fun mini game distraction.

Maybe the devs could just give us a hint that it's in the works.

it really does amaze me that in a MMO, it lacks so many social aspects. Pazaak and Speeder Racing was in KOTOR for gods sake (speeders would need a whole MMO overhaul obviously, but pazaak?)

I genuinely think if you add these social aspects, and perhaps a spectator/gambling mode on huttball... it would keep people hooked for longer.

How many people sat around in cantinas in SWG?

Pre-beta, and then during beta but before the live launch forum-wipe, there was a giant thread of ideas for cantina games and how to make them work.

I had my own ideas about how to make Pazaak work, as well as a few ideas for incorporating swoop racing that I had posted there.

Pazaak:

1- Play against an NPC in a no-wager game. Could be your ship droid or different people in the various cantinas across the galaxy.

2- Play against another player. Just as you challenge a player to a duel, you could challenge them to Pazaak. 'House' gets 10% of the winnings (not the winner's stake, just their winnings).

Options would exist for an auto-decline option in your preferences here.

As an option, rather than allow open dueling, set up Pazaak tables that a person could click on to queue up for agame with another player also queued up from anywhere in the galaxy. A Republic player in the cantina on Hoth could queue up against an Imperial on Dromund Kaas.

They could combine the two, and allow for both challenges and queued games.

As far as betting, I favored a pre-determined betting limit. In order to simplify things, I would set up a 'low' bet of 50 credits and a 'high' bet of 1,000 credits. They could add more wagers or set different levels as they felt were warranted.

If the queued system was used, then you would also be able to queue up for 'any' in addition to whatever your favored limit was. That way if you wanted to wager 1,000 the game would first look to match you up with other players wanting to wager that, but if there were none, you would be matched up with a 50 credit bettor that was waiting for a game.

They could even hold big Pazaak tournaments with extra prizes available periodically as a social event.

Hundreds of players could flock to Nar Shaddaa in an effort to win not only credits, but also rare gear, commendations of different sorts, pets, whatever.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

For swoop racing I would just have players bet against the clock.

Every track would have multiple time lines. If they finished faster than the low time, they would get maximum payout. If they finished somewhere between the low time and the second time, they would get a lesser payout, and so on.

Maybe five time brackets, with the top two earning money, the third breaking even, and the bottom two returning only a portion of the initial stake.

Multiple tracks with different payouts and time limits.

That is, admittedly, a very basic set-up, but it holds true to what we have seen swoop racing as.

They should also add a Pazaak station in your ship, so you could play against companions (no wager) and invite others onto your ship for friendly Pazaak games.

I am all for all kinds of games and hobbies if you will. Wagers... I don't really see a problem with that either. The game is designed to separate real cash purchases, such as cartel (that's why you cannot sell "cartel items" for credits, as this separates any legality as far as what would be considered "illegal gambling" - this game could easily incorporate games, and even prizes, that are awarded - even credits, as long as they cannot be converted to redeemable cash, and as long as it doesn't cost a player any real currency to participate - this takes care of any legality issues. Nothing wrong with a wager, and/or prizes.

Some people try to bring religion and morals into the whole idea of "gambling" and "wagers" but if you really think about it, any person that claims that it is immoral or against their religion to gamble and play games in SWTOR, should really look at their values... murder and mayhem is ok, but lets make a big deal about "fake currency" gambling or game playing... seems kinds of ridiculous. Some even go as far to say, "I only play Jedi/Republic" stating its more wholesome - killing is killing, and the Republic is not that wholesome either. I love the people that come on and say that gambling in SWTOR is like a "gateway" to real gambling.... give me a break - its about choices, if you don't like it, DON'T PARTICPATE! Problem solved.

I say bring it on! A more enhanced social outlet in this game, such as games and so forth, would only enhance the game.

Wow, they don't have minigames in this one? (<- Haven't played that long yet) Yes, they certainly should add some in!

As for gambling legalities and what not, STO seems to be able to do it with no problems, so I don't see why this game should have any issues?

Yah, absolutely no mini games... and thousands of games have gambling, game playing, prizes, social/gaming events... just not this game. well, at least... not yet. Nar would definitely be a great place if they did, along with sprucing up the boring old cantinas. Bring it on! :D
