DunderMiff
I'm new to the assassin/shadow world, and need some advice on the specs. To me, darkness seems really impressive, but I'm wondering if that is really the best road for me to take. One of the biggest reasons I like it is because it has good synergy with dark charge, which seems like a great stance mainly due to the increase in armor and small periodic heals. I mainly do PvE, I group a fair amount in PvE, and rarely do PvP but I pop in on occasion. So for a heavier PvE player, would one of the other lines do better for me? Thanks in advance for any advice
RankorSSGS
Well do you want to tank or dps? Because darkness is a great tank spec, and can be a respectable pvp dps, but you do not ever want to pve dps as darkness. And you do not want to tank as deception or madness. I am honestly still on the fence with which role I primarily want to fill with my assassin. I am leaning more towards tank because I already have a GS and Sent for dps. If I were to hybrid a bit and use a mix of darkness and let's say madness, would I still be able to tank and still do respectable damage?
RankorSSGS
Again, in pvp, darkness/ madness hybrids are very strong, probably assassins strongest overall spec. I'm not as familiar with pve, but from what I've heard and read, if your going to tank as an assassin, you go full tank.
MaximusVen
I was leveling a tank Sin because most of my other toons are DPS spec. I was only doing PVE. It was slow going and it just couldn't shake the feeling that it was not the best idea to be a tank. The initial companion we get is a tank and having 2 tanks seems silly to me while trying to level. Not to mention that the light armor isn't the best choice to be taking damage. With the low damage output and light armor, tanking at the beginning levels wasn't much fun for me. Anyway, once you get the DPS companion, then you can switch to tanking and see if you like it. I started to enjoy tanking once I hit level 35 or so because you start getting armor buffs and you can get force pull. I am only at level 40 so I don't know what tanking will be like at end game. I switch to deception spec for PVP and it is a lot of fun. I would say, try both DPS and tanking specs for a few levels each and see which one you like better. Ultimately, it will come down to what you enjoy doing the most while leveling. Good luck.
Xethis
Not sure what your level is, but I would agree with the above poster, do not start off as a tank. Your leveling will be very slow. I leveled as Deception which is great to start off with because you pretty much one and two shot everything as long as they are attacking your tank. Around level 40 I switched to tank spec when I got our healer. I just AOE'd everything down and Talos kept me up. It was pretty efficient leveling. At 50 if you want your main role to be tank then that is pretty obvious to stay Darkness. As for dps Madness is by far the best choice. Only downside is keeping track of your dots so your always watching that and at the same time your watching your buffs (Exploit Weakness, Deathmarks, Unearthed Knowledge, and Raze) can be a bit challenging and takes some getting used to. Even though Deception does less dps, it is a bit easier to play, and some say alot funner. All you really have to do is watch for your Static Charges and your Induction/VS stacks to see some nice big crits.
