SillyDan Posted September 27, 2012 Posted September 27, 2012 Hello all, I'm alternating between a Republic Commando and a Sith Juggernaut, both levelled up to their early 20s toward the end of chapter 1. Partly to see how the story goes, and partly to practice playing, I'm planning to delay my trips to Nar Shaddaa and go back to the lower-level planets to finish some heroic quests. My question is -- if I'm ~10 levels higher than suggested for a heroic quest, should I just solo them? Or should I join a group with much lower level characters (passing on most of the loot, since I probably have better stuff)? Or is the whole idea a waste of time? Thanks in advance.
dosadnik Posted September 27, 2012 Posted September 27, 2012 First of all if you are 10 levels higher then you won't get any experience from it, so if you are doing it because of that then there's no point. If you are doing it because of the story in the quest then that's a different matter. Second of all it take quite some time to find a group so it may get boring. So I suggest that you do them solo, but if you see someone searching for a group then by all means help them out.
OwenP Posted September 27, 2012 Posted September 27, 2012 dosadnik is right, you don't get the experience points and you should be able to solo them with a companion out easily at that level difference. I'm not sure, and someone may be able to inform us, but having a higher level character in a group will lower the XP for the other players (?). I've assisted those in need and fellow guildies if I see them asking for assistance on a lower level planet if I'm travelling through on other business (datacrons, homeplanet class questlines etc). I generally pass on all the loot as it is next to useless at that point and the other players have never complained about any XP issues, But I've seen other people mention a XP differential problem.... More to the point, SillyDan, you sound close enough to ending one of your chapter 1's and should do that on one character sooner so you can start your Legacy proper - at the moment (unless you have your Legacy already on another character) you are wasting XP which could be counting toward your Legacy level.
haliy Posted September 27, 2012 Posted September 27, 2012 If you do plan on going back to do those heroics just for the sake of doing them, please post a comment in general chat for that planet and say you are about to head over to X heroic(s) to solo. Is there anybody who would like to join? Any player within the range that would actually get the xp for those heroics would not pass up the chance to team up since it would help them out a lot.
parmie Posted September 27, 2012 Posted September 27, 2012 It's probably not annoying to other players, and after all, they can simply leave a group if they don't like it before you start. It is a big waste of time though and the stories attached to the missions are rarely interesting. If you want to do them for doing's sake then either wait to you're very over levelled to make them very quick or make sure you do them with the next alt character.
BeToo Posted September 27, 2012 Posted September 27, 2012 side note: I remember going back to Coruscant once as a 50 or something "uber" for those heroics and someone who could not find a group for Heroic X (there's rarely anyone willing to do 1/2 the heroics there) was overtly excited when I joined them (they knew I was much higher level). These 2 players had been wanting to do a 4-man for quite a while and was just finally happy to be able to do it (with ease). I also normally limit my abilities (turn off comp, only heal as needed, pass on all loot, do all bonuses, whatever) so they still get to enjoy the battles, as most people want to play with you, not watch you one-shot everything {yawn}. So don't worry so much and go back and help those spamming general chat for heroic help and they'd be more than happy to have you with them.

If you do group up many people leveling now are on alts and more interested in getting through heroics quick and healthy, not killing everything and going through the stories. They'd more likely be glad to group with you than be annoyed.

Agreeing for sure Things to keep in mind: XP loss for people joining you. I went back to Tat at +9 levels above. Finished off the Bonus series heroics that I could never get groups for. 1 Person actually jumped in with me on the Bloodgauge (think that's the name) H4. S/he was getting about 200xp per. I think that's relatively low (could be wrong) considering she was level appropriate for mission and each target was an Elite. But, regardless, people joining you will take an XP hit. Make sure that's ok with them. In this case, she was fine with itHeroics with hard hitting end bosses. These will still make you wince. Using the Bloodgauge example above; we got to Blood, fought with him and he just hit so hard that he actually got me to 1/4 of my health (Assassin Tank btw) and I had to actually play my class instead of just, "hit, kill, repeat". Depending on the class you are, just be careful as you may be surprised.Money and Loot. You may not get XP, but you still get individual money and loot drops. Basically, you still get money and money. If a person joins you, you can pass on everything, but I would recommend still throwing out Greed on Orange and Purple as that's easy money on the GTN. Plus there is the mission turn-in loot, money and gear as well. You can use the gear on Companions you haven't been gearing, reverse engineer them, or sell them off (all depending). Oh...and you get a whole +5xp when you turn in the mission Other then that, go for it. No harm in it. Is it "efficient"? Nope. But it's still money in the bank, a way to help the community, and (imo) still fun to do.

I had been assuming it would be scaled to the level of each character, at least as far as the final quest reward went.
RickyChavez Posted September 28, 2012 Posted September 28, 2012 The majority of the quests are the same for all characters. If you want to level faster you should be fighting stuff that is yellow or orange. If you are geared well enough and a healer, you can even join groups fighting stuff beyond your lvl in the red since you dont have to hit any enemies and can just heal your friends and reap the rewards of higher exp.

There is a balance to be had, however. My first toon was average 4 levels over content (took forever to get to 50), my second one I kept about on-level, and my third was about 2 levels under on average. I got a lot more xp on my third toon, but fights took a lot longer to complete. When I got to Belsavis, I was level 38. The first mob I ran into was a level 43 that resisted 95% of my attacks. I mucked about seeking easier prey but even those were resisting about 50% of my attacks. It became a drag as the fights just took too long. For my latest toon I'm keeping him about 1-2 levels over content. Since most xp is gotten from quests, I'm still leveling fairly quickly, and being able to blow through most trash encounters makes up the difference. Edited September 28, 2012 by Khevar
lbarnett Posted June 24, 2015 Posted June 24, 2015 How do I find old heroic quests that I haven't done yet? I am not sure if I've done them or not, but if the green triangle ain't showing anymore, does that mean I've done it or does it mean I'm too high of a level that I can no longer pick up that quest??

I believe most Heroics are available always, as they are repeatable. I don't think they go away at a certain level, because when I've gone back for datacron hunting on my 55+'s I could still pick up almost all the heroics if I wanted to, even on the home worlds. Also, if someone is calling out LFG you can join their group and they could share the mission with you, so you don't have to hunt for it (There are some rare exceptions, such as Bonus Series Heroics that require you finished portions of the Bonus Series missions preceding it and you won't be able to get those missions shared)

Noon GMT. Faded triangle would mean you did it the last day. No triangle means it wasn't a Heroic. Or that it is part of a series you haven't done (ex: planet bonus series). You can search Dulfy.net for lists of Heroics with info on the starter NPC.
Lorandun Posted June 26, 2015 Posted June 26, 2015 I tended to go back to ord mantell often and run Savrip Island, net 10-11 comms in 15 minutes from landing to takeoff. Would usually toss up a message I was gonna go crush savrip island solo, and if anyone wanted a free ride on the heroics there, that was cool. 3 heroics + regular but not everytime random drop of a comm.
