Reginthorn
Just updated my game to 1.4 only to discover that my frames were suddenly horrible. I have a 6970 so I should be able to run this game fine on Ultra/Max settings (which I have been able to before the update) . Is this happening to anyone else and do you have a workaround? Adjusting my settings to high didn't do anything for me.

Yes I have an amazing gaming pc that plays skyrim and BF3 on max setting no issues, i had Swtor on medium quality and no shadows activated, I am having a huge framerate loss, i know its not my pc or my internet cus BF3 online works just as good as before, but 1.4 hit and alot of people including me even when we turn off shadows and turn down graphics on this game the frame rates are still horrible... But im hoping they dont ignore this issue cus i will be un subbing if they refuse to fix this for alot of people
solikepoison
This is why you need actual beta testers for so this stuff doesnt happen lol. so many people are having this issue with FPS even when everything is turned to low. I guess itll be fixed when it can but I cant even play its so bad
Wolfninjajedi
I'm good on my end, all settings on high except for shadows which is turned off since they don't really do anything for me.
Kungfutse
Having similar experience here. Fraps shows solid 60 FPS but panning camera around (left/right, up/down) isn't smooth, but instead it looks the view updates only after every x degrees. This makes it look really choppy and gives an illusion of FPS drop (of course, it might be, that the drop is so short, that Fraps doesn't notice it). I've always had shadows disabled, so it's not them. No SLI or Crossfire setup, just plain old Radeon HD 5770 with newest Catalyst drivers (12.8) I've tried every trick so far suggested on the CS forums regarding this issue, and the only ones that seem to have any affect are to disable nameplates totally and setting shader quality to low (which makes the game butt ugly). Running the game in windowed fullscreen reduces the choppines a bit, but doesn't remove it completely Needless to say, that everyting ran smoothly prior to 1.4 patch. Oh, and I'm not sure what they did to the fonts in this patch, but text's are now so small and blurry it's almost painful to try and read some of them. I am having the EXACT same issues when panning the camera around - it is so unnerving I almost can't play the game now. Also the performance seems much worse after the 1.4 patch. Running GeForce 460M GTX - a notebook card, fairly old, but was running on max with no shadows and no AA, everything was smooth. Patch 1.4 comes in, this happens. Hope this will be fixed soon. EDIT Almost forgot: the camera issue seems to go away almost completely when I mount a speeder. Not sure what that means, but I sure can't fight while on a speeder, so it makes no difference in playability. Malastare
I'll confirm the same issues with a GTX 560 Ti (factory overclock, paired with i7-2600K @ 4.5GHz). The results are short bursts of what appear to be dropped frames despite high average frame rate. At my normal settings (Overall high settings with some tweaks in the nVidia CP), I normally get ~59fps. Starting 1.4 for the first time, I saw about the same framerate, but panning the camera would cause it to spike downward. I ran through a bunch of tests to see what had an effect. I tried all levels of shadows. At High, I had a slight decrease in average framerate, but no more or less of the frame drops. Same for anti-aliasing. Tython had much, much worse performance than the Fleet, even though grass and tree detail was reduced, and shadows were off. Atlasing seemed to have no effect. Lower Antialiasing seemed to make the drops a little less frequent, but didn't remove them, despite running at an otherwise constant 60fps (Vsync is enabled). A breakthrough came when I suddenly found a place on the fleet that had no frame drops. I could pan all I wanted and it was smooth, even with High antialiasing. It was in the elevator to the Esselles. Then another player passed by on a speeder, and I watched a cluster of frame drops hit me, about one ever quarter second. When the player was out of view, the framerate was constant again. At that point, I had shadows turned off entirely, so shadows don't seem to be the issue. Rather, there is something about how PCs and NPCs are rendered. If I found areas that had no players or NPCs, then I had good frame rates. At the same time, its important to note that the number of players or NPCs in the area didn't seem to have any effect. Walking around on Tython, I saw the same number of frame drops standing at a speeder post with no other players as I did in the Temple with a dozen players running about. Most annoying performance problem a game can have. FPS drops I can deal with...but this is so irritating I'm using 460GTX with the latest drivers. Turning off shadows does not help (also, the game played perfectly well on max settings with shadows on high before the latest patch).
Malastare
Quick update: Looking around at other reports, there really is some decent evidence for blaming the new Nameplates. All of the places I found that were smooth had no nameplates to draw. People saying that they had smooth performance on speeders could be explained by the fact that companions are auto-dismissed when you mount, so that is one less nameplate to draw, and possibly the only nameplate to draw. (When I was doing my testing, my companion was running missions constantly). The fact that the stuttering happens only when you move makes sense because the nameplates would only need to be rescaled if you (or the other player) moved. I can't check it out now, but I'd strongly suggest looking through the thread linked on the first page and trying to disable Nameplate scaling or Nameplates altogether, and see if that returns performance. -Alaraz-
Same exact problem. On a 6970. I never drop below 60 no matter the settings or amount of people on screen yet I get horrid 'stuttering' when running around or panning camera. I tried going low settings, no change. Turned off all nameplates and got rid of companion. no change. Only happened after 1.
carne
same here. camera stutter and junky FPS. GTX 570, i5-2500k, 120hz monitor. i'm starting to think it's time to move on. my other games don't have the problems i put up with from TOR. (TSW, GW2.) unfortunate... Adjusting my settings to high didn't do anything for me. Yeah I'm having problems as well. Game suddenly runs like I'm on a nice video card that has everything except enough pixel pipelines. (creates this kind of inconsistent sluggish camera movement). I'm also getting far more hitching than I used too.

Adjusting my settings to high didn't do anything for me. It was reported and never fixed. They are ignoring performance issues to fix imaginary issues like shadows look blocky. The negative performance of what they did to improve a visual which not even SLI rigs can run is absurd. From day 1 of entering test center I and bunch of people who bothered trying out test reported dramatic drops in performance. Now its on live. I cannot believe this sort of thing is occurring. I get 1.4 needed to come out. Why did it need the shadows improvement which have been demostrated by testers to be a huge negative? Who answers for these sorts of mistakes? It appears no one is in charge of this team.
RichT
Same thing here. Stuttery gameplay when rotating camera. Shadows on or off didnt seem to fix anything for me. Malastare
The negative performance of what they did to improve a visual which not even SLI rigs can run is absurd. I'm less interested in performance drops on SLI/Crossfire systems. If you insist on running SLI/Crossfire, then you have to accept that you're going to have problems. If you bought one with the expectation that it was going to be easy and problem free, then someone sold you a lie. It's very, very common for SLI setups to have bad performance when games are first released and any time they release major upgrades to their rendering systems. In many cases, the fault lies in the driver profiles, not the game. I can't say whether the most recent SLI/Crossfire performance drop in SWTOR is based withing SWTOR or if it needs a driver update. Quite frankly, I don't care all that much. While people with SLI rigs were wining about performance, my single card system was running the game just fine. And it still can, it just experiences odd stutters.

Urael
From the CS Forum: Choppy gameplay post patch Please do the following: Uninstall video driver, clean boot and then clean driver install. Depending on the graphics card the uninstall can differ: NVidia recommend completing this through Control Panel/add/remove programs. 1) Go into your Control Panel 2) Double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon 3) Select the NVIDIA Windows Display Drivers from the list of programs. 4) Click Change/Remove or Add/Remove button. 5) Confirm with Windows that you wish to continue with the uninstall Nvidia link:http://www.nvidia.com/object/IO_13955.html ATI on the other hand recommend removing drivers via their own catalyst: 1) Click on Start 2) Open the Control Panel 3) Select Programs and Features 4) Select ATI Catalyst Install Manager 5) Click on Change AMD link:http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles/Pages/GPU57RemoveOldGraphicsDrivers.aspx Instructions on performing a clean boot: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135 When installing an Nvidia driver please choose the advanced install and tick the box for "perform a clean installation". When installing AMD drivers, just perform the installation as normal after the clean boot. I will be experimenting with this when I get home. KPureblade
Some advice from multiple threads about this issue: 1. Turn off Crossfire/SLI on your GPU(s). Alternatively, play in Fullscreen (Windowed) mode, this effectively disables Crossfire. [This fixed it for me] 2. Turn off Shadows 3. Turn down the player nameplate scaling with distance thing Even if you don't think you have Crossfire or SLI, try playing in Fullscreen (Windowed) mode anyway. It is possible your video card actually has two GPUs on it which could be causing similar issues. Edited September 27, 2012 by KPureblade
