Marauder Leveling Build and Rotations?

Shadowclaimer

Recommended Posts

I've hit 20 on my Marauder and I'm really hating it so far. I love melee classes usually, so for the Marauder (who started out cool) its beginning to grate on me.

I have too many abilities to manage (my bars are flooded and they feel redundant), my damage is mediocre compared to other DPS classes, and I'm dying way too fast for my own good. (Its not gear, I'm overgeared for my level).

So I've come to the conclusion it has to be my build and what abilities I'm using.

This is my build:

http://www.torhead.com/skill-calc#100bIbo.1

My current ability "rotation" is:

-Open with Force Charge

-Use Battering Assault (to build rage)

-Spam Vicious Slash, Retaliation, and Ravage (to consume rage)

-When out of rage, spam Assault (to build more rage)

-Use Saber Ward and Cloak of Pain when in tough fights

-Use Deadly Saber and Berserk when off cooldown

And it fails miserably.

Why aren't you using Battering assault? it builds 6 rage...

Use force scream every chance you get. it does a lot of damage.

You went annihilation, meaning, your dots will be your big damage dealer. Try using rupture at the beginning of the fight.

Force charge> Battering Assault > Ravage > Force Scream > Vicious Slash

Only use your basic rage builder(sweeping slash isnt it?) when you cant do anything else and your out of rage.

Err Battering Assault is what I use not Sweeping Slash (derp)

I typically open with Ravage after my Battering Assault, then spam the other two. Its just my damage output feels so minute. I'm contemplating swapping to Carnage (http://www.torhead.com/skill-calc#100ZhG0Mz.1) since basically I'm getting my bleed's DPS amounts but passively instead of having to spam some "next three strikes" ability, and Ravage.

Also I wasn't sure if Force Scream was good DPS or not, I was only using it if an opponent was outside my range.

The thing about Mara is that there really is no defined rotation. I am currently level 30 and specced into Carnage and I don't seem to have issues with pve or pvp.

Here is a video of my rotation for PvE

Current Build

Yea Carnage is what I'm looking at.. I really like the looks of it.

I just feel overwhelmed with Annihilation, its like I have to have Enrage/Deadly Saber/Saber Ward/Cloak of Pain/etc. up constantly while simultaneously managing rage consumption.

IMO the big problem with anni is: we don't have time to build our dps in a normal fight...

against elite mobs, we can shine...a lot of bleed dmg with bersek and can heal yourself plus mitigating dmg received alternating saber ward with cloak of pain

but when you fighting normal mobs, just charge + battering + 4 vicious slash...it's enough most of time

I'm 28 now and have no problems with my rotation.

I usually start with Charge > Deadly Saber > Battering Assault > Rupture > Ravage > Force Scream.

I also have charge on a lower CD and can charge at point blank. I just keep the dots rolling with Deadly Saber and Rupture on boss fights, throwing in Vicious Slash when I have Rage to burn and my other abilities are on CD. When I eventually get Annihilate that's going to alter my rotation a bit as I'll have Annihilate as the highest priority, then Rupture, then Deadly Saber.

I'm not sure why people are hating this class so much. I love it.

Agreed. For normal mobs you really don't need much. Can eventually spare some seconds by DoTs on mob 1 and focus then mobs 2-3, but that's it. I actually even get to kill the most enemies with only charge + AoE, leaves one or two silver mobs left for VS.

Nice but a few changes need to be made, Take points out of erupting fury. It takes so long to build that up that having 1-2 extra points every time you kill something gains you very little compared to what those two points can give you elsewhere.

Brutality in the Rage tree is pointless. Once you get Maccacre, it replaces vicious slash as your move. It does more damage and gives you a Ataru form buff.

Also Cloak of Carnage and Discplacement are really pvp, but are really worth it, especially Displacement. I try to sue Deadly throw as often as i can. Especially in Huttball.

This is the spec im going for atm.

I Pvp as often as i can, I get about 8-11k experience and 1-2k credits per match, not to mention valor and commedation. After about 10-15 warzones you have enough to buy all the level 20 Armor pieces for PvP. Huge upgrade!!!!

Will definitely follow this up and try it out. Thanks a ton!

I think the 2 points for improved cloak are a waste, the crit in the rage tree is a better choice.

Yeah those will probably be the ones are switch around. I got improved cloak only becase i thought defensive forms was pointless at the time, but i also only wanted to do pve.

To me gaining a Rage every 3 seconds (and only while Cloak is active) is pretty meh. I'd considered moving those as well.
