Ixchile
Customer service can absolutely remove a security key...they did it for me. What we, and they, can't do right now is put another mobile one back on after a previous one has been removed. -HM Same thing they just told me seconds ago on the phone. dyson
The battery in my key lasted exactly 21 days. 9 years. That's funny.
lendaugy
Can you even call Bioware in a non-launch country? Well it's just stupid if you loose your phone :| Whos fault is it that YOU lost YOUR phone... do tell...
Adric_the_Red
Cannot replace the battery, because the system clock that defines the code is matched with the SWTOR website clock, disabling or removing the battery would immediately put it out of sync.Hmm, yes, didn't consider that. Sure hope they get a process in place to remove a "dead" key and add a new, "live" one before mine dies...
Lokgnash
The security key would be a waste if you didn't have to call them to disable it. If it could be done via your user account or any other means it's likely that whoever would be stealing your account would be able to defeat the security key as easily as they would the normal login. I had Blizzard's security key on my phone when I played WoW, and I never had a single issue with it, even when traveling out of the country. Obviously that doesn't mean this one will be as reliable, but hopefully it will be. The only problem I had was that at one point my phone got destroyed, so I had to call Blizzard to get the key taken care of while I waited on my replacement phone, and that was like pulling teeth, but only took me a half hour, and other than that it was great. I thought about downloading the app for my phone for SWTOR's key but I decided that, in light of the experience I had above, I'd try the physical security key, so I ordered it and am waiting for it to come in. I'll probably tether the thing to my desk or something when it gets here. It is not that easy to disable it since they need a serial number that never left the phone or that is on the backside of the token. So it is not that easely dissabled even if you could dissable it on the site. You can disable it from World of warcrafts web site and it is safe. luizofoca
the problem is my iphone will go to repair. if i cannot take the key off i cant get into the game till i get my phone back. And worse if they need to reinstall the ios there i will lost my key. so i really think there should be a way like in Blizzards to remove security key. using the serial number created for each. Hollow_Man
You can take the key off by calling BioWare. The problem is once it's taken off, you can't put it back on. STILL waiting... -HM

Amidakilla
I just called them and got instant reply. They ask for you name and your login e-mail. And they ask you to answer two of your security questions. And after they confirm that you really are the person you are claiming to be, they tell you that if they remove it, you won't be able to install it on the same for or some other phone. They say that you won't be able to use it until they patch it and ask you if you would like to proceed. I personally got instant reply, clear information and a polite agent... FYI. Lascivious
I personally got instant reply, clear information and a polite agent... The fact remains that this is still a bug after more than a month, a bug dealing with security of your account. Is PvP updates more important than my account security? I don't think so but I guess that is how it rolls. I'm glad they are telling people but it doesn't fix the problem it just gives you a warning that there is a problem. Since most of us get a new $50-600 phone so we can use it and not use our old phones, it seems a mighty annoying bug - keep your old phone until we fix it so you can keep the account security or we'll remove it and you'll loose the account security but you can use your old phone. OR keep your old phone (if it has WiFi) as a big glorified dongle for a few months ... ugg.... I'm sorry, I feel like some people are trying to sugar coat rocks and push this off as candy - it's a rock and you can chew on it as long as you want but it's still a rock. Butter it up anyway you want it still a rock.
Nexhun
Shameful, that this "bug" isn't taken care of so far. Because of the failure of my Samsung phone (can't enable mobile internet on it), i need to factory reset it, but that would ruin the security key app. Which i intended to use... So, at this very moment, I can only permanently remove the security key via calling the BW Customer Service Center (which will cost money for me), then there is no guarantee that my phone will work properly. It's like a loss-loss situation.
ikramaru
Well, any support agent can tell us any news? Its been 2 months already since "We are aware of the issue and trying to fix it quickly...". So, you still working on it? You just not going to do it? You dont care about your customers? You notice that just adding an option into the "my account" page to remove the phone key, will work and a lot of ppl will buy a physical key then (meanwhile you hard work to fix it) ? Just wanted to know, 2/18 is the day of billing, and if i dont see any movements to fix that, in a normal time frame, I will just cancel my account. I know one subscription less is something not to worry about.... same thought ncsoft with Aion.

Gorgazm
Seriously, I have to call them? i was just about to root my phone and was removing all authenticators from various accounts i have on it before i did so Meh i don't plan on playing swtor again anyway, so i'll leave it and I guess if I do ever want to again i'll deal with it I understand teh security is having to call them, but imo it's too much. Just requiring to log in with they key to remove it is enough imo

wairuakaha
After reading the pages of this thread and seeing my iphone play up this week, i decided to err on the side of caution - Im in Asia at the moment - I called the customer service hotline - it took the agent (with a rather odd accent) less than 7min to delete the security key linked to my account - navigating the inordinate number of menu options took longer than the total time it took for waiting on the queue (which was less than 5 seconds), having the agent go through the usual security steps and the actual deletion process. Well pleased with my experience and now my device is free to breakdown if it will without risking my access to the game which I am now well and truly hooked on like a weak willed junky. ikramaru
Well, been 5 days, any answer yet... nothing on they web page. First of all, when I downloaded the application and set up it, I didn't get any warning telling me that I will not be able to reassign the key to any other phone (If they said that I will never downloaded it). Second, I'm glad some of you got lucky with your call, for me, it was 5 times, and more than 30bucks in calls, still my problem not solved. Third, bye bye, I just leave, I don't want to spend my time in a game with that silly support. Don't worry I will close the door when I leave so not one get angry. I have to send my phone for warranty and I don't want to be stuck without been able to enter the game for weeks, months or who knows... maybe forever. Of course I don't want to spend any more money in international calls. As I say, one less player means nothing. But when you keep loosing players, think that maybe the people that pay for something at least want to have some information regarding a bug of that size that can keep away from the game you paying for. And one thing, nowadays people like to be able to do things by internet instead of calling. Remove a security key from an account, HAVING THE SECURITY KEY WORKING, is something you should be able to do on your account page, not need for calling, If I have my security key, is that is me who is connecting and me who is removing the security key. Not be able to fix that in so long time... well I can't understand.
Qaoz
Just received a new phone after the old one started hiccuping. I have two security keys installed on my old phone: one for Star Wars: The Old Republic and one for World of Warcraft. I uninstalled the one for World of Warcraft by navigating to my account on their site and entering in two security key codes. I have to freakin' call BioWare to have them uninstall the SWTOR security key? Are you kidding me? This has got to be the most mentally challenged thing ever in the history of security measures. It promotes NOT getting the security key, which is just silly. It's like the developer(s) had a mild brain aneurysm halfway through the production. So, yeah, I'll be calling BioWare first thing in the morning to have my security uninstalled. I WON'T be installing it on the new phone. Not until someone plugs that aneurysm and makes it user friendly. /facepalm

You should just be able to remove it from the login screen by typing in the word "hi" -- would that be better for you?
Qaoz
Of course, why would you want enhanced security features for a thing that helps keep others from accessing your account? You should just be able to remove it from the login screen by typing in the word "hi" -- would that be better for you? How about they implement the same feature Blizzard and Trion implemented? To remove a security key from your WOW/Rift account, you need to type in two security key codes. Done. To remove the key, use the key. Simple as that. It makes no sense, whatsoever, that I have to call BioWare so they can remove my security key. And to make matters worse, the BioWare call center numbers are all foreign, which means they cost money, unless I use a land-line. But I don't own a land-line (2012 after all) and my cell phone can't make international calls. Removing the security key is going to cost me money. What're the odds I'll be using that thing on my new phone?
Hollow_Man
What're the odds I'll be using that thing on my new phone? None right now, because once you take the mobile key off, it's impossible to put it back on again. -HM
