Andryah
Actually people in the industry, can predict what a movie can cost up to +-10%, without detailed plans, its called experience What is your point? That you are experienced at estimating and running large software development projects? Show you PMP certification and I will believe you. Otherwise, you're blowing smoke and hyperbole. Saltydogg
True...and those that are\were 1099'd would count in the development costs...But full time Employee's would not. This list he has linked does not make the distinction between the two. Even so if you have people that are working on a project that is barely making operational costs then you have to take the money from another source. Hence the reason why EA is downgrading the staff. In the next two months you will see more layoffs, that is the nature of the beast.

My fathers in the movie industry as a construction coordinator for the past 20 years, basically plans and budgets all the sets, and make estimations like that all the time. They said that the game will operate on 500k subs but they didnt say anything about operating on that number only after 8 months.
AshlaBoga
EA is a disaster. Games that EA touches become a disaster. I think the best/only option that will save SWTOR is to lock EA out of it. Asking anyone with an understanding of business and law - is it possible to stop EA from interfering further in SWTOR?

I'm sure the people do similar estimations in the gaming industry as well Right.... so then you are not qualified then to properly estimate a large project like SWTOR. But see, I already knew that when you tried to make the credits list on the game = FULL TIME employees on the project for 3+ years. Or was I mistaken, and you are actually an industry insider in the Software or Gaming industry with direct experience estimating the development costs of projects? Once again, your use of the credits list as your basis, disqualifies that IMO. None of us, most of all the internet new pundits, are privy to the actual budget and cost plan for the project. However some of us do have real experience with large software development projects, and know how they are planned, and also know that they very much follow classic lifecycle staffing common to high tech projects. I am smelling a very angry Dev talking here. Sorry bud but the people who you should of been listening to all along told you this game was going to fail. By the sub numbers soon to come out you should of took some of that advice.
Taorus
How does that bode for the overall status of the game? I would suggest...You play games less and seek out a nice Community College and take a business course or two. A reduction in the size of your work force, Does not portend a sign of doom. Andryah
Hey if you want to stick your head in the sand and pretend this game didn't cost money then go have what ever opinion you want. Now you are being hyperbolic. I believe I am on record twice in this thread stating that in my estimate it cost in the range of $90 million to reach release, and what I based it on. I just did not go off the deep end trying to defend a $200M LA Times pundit figure based on a list of credits on the back of the manual. See the difference there?
