ye, like i said, EA backed funcom. how hard is that to understand, its still classed as under EA's banner and if tsw does well they are going to take funcom into the inhouse teams just like they did with westwood, mythic, bioware, maxis etc etc

For funcom's sake, I hope this isn't true. If they know what's good for them, they'd already have the crosses, holy water and garlic out at the ready to repel any advances from EA. They already destroyed one good MMO developer and a good MMO, the less they have to do with funcom, the better.

You can misue the English language to conflate what the actual business relationship between Funcom and EA is all you like, but it does not change the fact that other then production of boxes for distribution and actual distribution, EA has no involvment in TSW. ZIP, NADA, NONE. As for Marketing, all marketing of TSW is performed by Funcom, which is not much really, but it seems to be spreading fine by word of mouth.

anything that decides a kingdom`s fate, via large capital support and distrubution, not to mention marketing

is involved in it.....also the part i highlighted in bold in your post is completely illogical...as for that to be true,ea could not be mentioned at all in the wiki article on tsw....:/

for example....ea could quite easily threaten to pull its support if it doesnt like something in tsw...in which case, you might cite contracts...

but c`mon baby, this is capitalism, the richer guy always has more and better lawyers

BS. EA did not back Funcom, they agreed to a product distribution agreement that includes box production. If EA did not do it, some other company with distribution infrastructure would have.

As for EA taking Funcom in house. Funcom is stand alone corporation. Unless Funcom wants to be bought, EA cannot buy them. Unless Funcom wants to sell their MMO property to EA, it won't happen. EA has no IP rights to TSW, or any other Funcom MMO for that matter.

Now you see this is the thing, you me bap and anyone else has no idea what control ea have on funcom apart from funcom and EA. As it stands EA can walk away from funcom or they can buy them but i would wait about until the 24th of august to see what happens.

More conflation.

From what is visible to the general public, it appears that about 60-70% of TSW software purchase are directly via Funcoms website. ALL subscriptions, subscription plans, Funcom Points, etc. are distributed directly by Funcom via their commercial website.

Really, so who did. Funcom lost a fortune, then they had to strip there dev team then bang EA float in and all is happy days again at funcom, odd that. and read this http://l3cdn.funcom.com/funcomportal/pdf/investor/2012/ex_general_meeting_2/explanatory_notes_convening_notice_egm_august_2012.pdf

"As I see it, both the good and bad possibilities rely on whether or not EA keeps to the publishing side of things and lets’ Funcom take the time it needs to get the game out when it’s ready, not when the number is up. With something as complex and difficult as an MMO, I worry that EA simply doesn’t have the patience to let a developer see it through. I know it’s not easy to just keep feeding a game money when you want to see an ROI, but sometimes the best course of action is to do just that so that the MMO is more likely to retain subscriptions."

Funcom is a publicly traded company on the Oslo Exchange. As such all equity interests in the company would have to be disclosed. As would any material financial commitments or obligations. So, my friend, sho me where EA aquited an equity interest in Funcom, or issued a loan or other financial instrument to Funcom.

from funcom`s own q4 pdf thingy

LARGE SCALE MMOs

The Secret World

· Funcom has signed a co-publishing agreement with

EA for The Secret World. The partners will

cooperate on the marketing, sales and PR for the

game. EA will be responsible for the distribution of

the physical boxed product in all key markets.

Funcom will sell the game in digital form from its

websites. Under the terms of the agreement, EA will

also make significant contributions to the marketing

campaign of the game. The deal terms are broadly

similar to those of previous publishing agreements

signed by the Company.

· The development of The Secret World, progressed

well during 4Q. Around 130 people are currently

working on the development of the game, and the

project is fully staffed.

· The main focus of the development effort is on

content implementation and on expanding and

iterating on the role-playing game systems.

· Funcom will be present at the Game Developers

Conference in San Francisco during March 1-4 and

will at this event reveal a broad set of features,

locations and game play for The Secret World, all

captured in-game

the stuff in bold destroys your point of veiw, and only elevates mine...direct evidence of financial help.....a legal statement saying ea is massively vested in the marketing of secret world, which is essentially funcom`s own words refuting your statement that ea doesnt do the marketing, and so on

Edit, going on game just made me see the new edition of dead island lol just order it with my points.

Ah thanks. This is the only thing I could find relating to the subject..everything else seems to just treat TSW as another MMO in EA's stable : http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/404/feature/4882/Publishing-Deal-Clarification.html

Any sensible reader will read the announcement you quoted (which I have read before and is the basis for my disagreement with Shingara) and conclude exactly what I said.

Most pointed is this: The deal terms are broadly similar to those of previous publishing agreements signed by the Company

Yep, that's right. It says in Funcoms document that this deal with EA is broadly similar to previous publishing agreements they have made in the past for their products. And if you have any familiarity with Funcom over the last decade, you know that in spite of their financial ups and downs, they are and remain an independent developer of MMOs (even in a market place where many larger game companies have been gobbled up by Blizzard and EA.).

Apparently Funcom has more spine in a competitive market then Bioware did.

Besides, no way EA would want Funcom. Funcoms TSW is single server technology, and having played in it I can say its a refreshing change from the painful server population experiences we have had at SWTOR. :p

Forbes also busted a self congratulatory nut in their faces about ME3 and still are in this article even. I trust Forbes for gaming news about as much as I trust TMZ for tips in neuroscience. Edited by AlyxDinas

You told me that EA didnt back funcom, what you just quote shows im right. Also its been rumored for ages since a funcom csr let slip that EA would be taking them over if tsw did well.

Sales yes. Subscriptions NO. Seriously... stop spreading falsehoods. :D

sales =/= subscriptions...seriously..if a game can only ever be bought, then logically subscriptions can only arise from sales, and thus if your profiting from sales, your also profiting from subscriptions, which are one and the same at this point

o.o i fail to see how or why you defend funcom at this point
