what would you pay for this setup?

I'd bump down to an i5. i7 is overkill for gaming. I have an i5 right now and I have no issues running D3, Swtor, and wow all at the same time. No slow down, also pages open on chrome. You'll save yourself a bit of money doing that. Unless you really want to overkill and then have to replace it a few years down the line, which you do with all pcs :p

It's all about saving with pcs, scrapping by getting what you need and not everything you want, imo. i5 is good enough trust me on that one. :)

This is my Dxdiag if you are wondering if I'm pulling your leg.

You gotta understand dude that while the whole setup might cost more, there are not that many people who would pay for a desktop just to have it shipped without the warranty you get for DOA products.

Locally you could pull off 1200 or even 1300 with the whole check if it works / pickup & carry you could get that much ... unless you want to take it apart & sell it piece by piece even then it wouldn't sell for that much more maybe 1500 or 1600.

Realistically thought, if you are on a budget of about 1000$ & can not get the credit for financing you want to buy new parts or research how to get the same performance out of parts which cost less ... if budget is not an issue then you wouldn't buy a used desktop anyway.

No self-respecting gamer or anyone who knows anything about computers would buy Alienware. I wouldn't pay the shipping on that thing if it was being given away for free.

Build your own. If you're a slow reader and rode the short bus, it would take a few days to learn how and another to actually build it. The average person can watch a few videos, get a parts list, grab a screwdriver and have it done in a few hours.

You guys are smoking crack...

The GTX 570 is a $400 card and the 590 sits around 400+ (regardless of brand) The CPU is about $250-300. The ram regardless if cheap or not is still sitting about $50 for 8gb - $150 for 8gb.

The system regardless of how old it is will still handle anything out right now or coming out. Hell, My dual gtx 460's (SLI) can handle anything out right now maxed out. The fact that new GPU's and MOBO's are coming out, have came out, or might come out, when he has sitting in his system is still top tier.

It has Win 7, (prob an OEM version) but still thats worth $99-$199

As far as a waranty, lol if you build your own system, there is no waranty any way which is what a majority of people who are commenting on here have done. Dude, you might not get what you paid for it, but you can get more than $800. You can go to any military base and get that much without even trying to sell it. Place it on cregslist and see what you can get.

Have you checked out the market for used PCs? The only way he's going to make a good amount of money back on that machine is to strip it and sell the parts. As stated they're worth a lot new but people don't pay good money for used machines.

In my experience, the biggest problem you are going to face buying someone's Alienware is actually getting them to sell if to you at a reasonable, not obscene price. You have to understand they have already payed an astronomically inflated price for the privilege of the Alien head badge so much so that sometimes the rig itself is really only valued at 1/3 of what they paid for the damned thing less than a year ago. . . TRUE STORY. I see used Alienware laptops all the time on Craiglist for the price of a brand new Asus ROG Series gaming notebook /FACEPALM .

I look at those folks and kind of feel sorry for them to be in the situation but also realize that just because they were dumb enough to pay that much a brand you don't have to be dumb enough to take it off their hands and absorb the cost of their poor decision making. Think about it. ;)
