Tefoutu
PvP is an integral part of an MMO despite a wider PVE community, regardless of the varied PvP aspirations out there, both have to work together for the game to flourish. (As a sad example just remember what happened to EverQuest 2) Therefore we need to make the PvP experience the best in this game, period! Let’s start with what is the most annoying problem in my opinion: WZs imbalances due to the available revolving door to quit WZs in all impunity. Why? Well for the most part, numbers and the length of time without complete teams maters in a timed 8 v 8 combats WZ quite dramatically. So my solution is the "advance PvP" check box option. When one “ques” for a WZ; the player has the option to check the “advance PvP box” with a warning that it may take a little longer to for the WZ to start and if one quits the WZ at any time before its conclusion the character will be subject to a penalty. What is the penalty you may ask? Well if you quit the WZ at an inopportune time your character is sent to a holding cell (like any well deserving deserter, cinematic is welcome…) for a length of time, say “ten minutes”, without being able to PvP or PVE. Now he/she can elect to leave the penalty box or cell by paying a material said fine that will be paid to the remaining team members that stayed in the WZ. The fine can be any combination of credit/valor or commendations and prompted when the player’s wants to quit the WZ with the penalty option as a default. Now this will serve two purposes; 1. Allowing for the players to not select that box so they can enjoy the way things are. 2. Allow for the more serious ones to click the box for a more challenging and maybe more rewarding experience. No self-respecting PvP player likes winning a fight when the other side just collapses because of insufficient or erratic/immature participants. In my experience many PvP players are warriors in spirit and a good amount of them have a code of honor and or pride! Please give them the PvP experience they deserve! Let me know what you think. (Moto – You are only as good as your team and your team is only as you!) Thank you for reading.
KryptikX
So... cross server ranked warzones with a penalty box? The main problem is that people are incapable of waiting for ranked (which will have a deserter debuff).
Lugh
How about fixing the 'bug' that allows credit for participation in the quick 6 matches even if you leave the match once it's started?

KryptikX Thanks for your point Yes, I'd rather know when I'm queing that I'll have a good experience rather than crossing my fingers...Patience has its rewards, otherwise why even bother:mad:? The waiting part should be resolved with cross server warzones and also if the experience is elavated rather than dum. I'm looking for a viable reward and a penalty for all parties affected by this problem... Thanks again.
Galvatron
One of the biggest reasons people drop groups are! 1: They get put in a losing group halfway through the match. ( Which I Agree it's ok to drop) 2: they get put in a group with known idiots or players that just stand around doing nothing. (I would drop too) 3: the system makes an uneven match and it 6vs8 or 7vs8.

Lugh, I'm not familiar with this bug, atm I'm focusing on the number of team members participating in a Wz to keep the experience viable and hope the rewards/penalties will deter anyone from cheating according to your bug. ( Which I Agree it's ok to drop) This should be resolved through pairing with guild mates, if not, when soloing, just work harder but do not quit as you will just compound the problem. Remember that in all teams you have superstars and others that are not but they can still be good teams and be winners as well. 2: they get put in a group with known idiots or players that just stand around doing nothing. (I would drop too) The leaching problem is real and should be addressed as well but I want to focus on the balance issue first. 3: the system makes an uneven match and it 6vs8 or 7vs8. Agreed therefore there should be rewards and penalties to address this issue. Thank you for your post.
MinguesDew
They should just give you a debuff that gives you 1/4 valor/commendations/credit/xp gain and makes you unable to complete your daily for 10-15 min. Let them join and drop to their hearts content just don't give them much of anything for the next game. If you enjoy PvP and are in a godawful match where your team is afk and flaming each other you can leave and still queue with your friend who just logged in you just won't get much from it. MMO players hate being restricted from doing things but they are a little more open to being incentivised/disincentivised.

MinguesDew, You bring a good point, but still being rewarded for leaving is not my kind of tuff love as 15 minute debuff may not even be a deterrent. At the same time I would hate to be in a WZ where everyone is complaining and the complainers can't quit without a penalty. But maybe that’s the point...You should not quit regardless of the situation, tuff it up as your mission comes first. When we change a game too much to a water down version to please weak players away from what makes sense, we lose the 'reality aspect" that is so important. Maybe you should be able to add to your ignore list the players you don't want in your WZ teams so you would not be picked to join them in WZs. If they are bad enough and everyone hates them then they will not find advance WZs to play in... In any case if we do not fix this issue it will be hard to get the PvP players back to SWTOR; it’s only a matter of time when the next MMOs with good PvP will come out. I just wish SWTOR could fill that need.
MinguesDew
Maybe I overestimate their greediness and obsessive min/maxing. I feel like the deserter is usually that guy who wants to get carried for his dailies so they just quit everytime it looks like they might lose. I also like my idea because it eliminates the argument that a game you pay for shouldn't be able to lock you out if you have to use the bathroom, get a knock on the door, kid falls down, dog throws up, etc. You're free to play, the game just won't give you the rewards you've come to expect from playing. The debuff HAS to be account wide or it won't accomplish anything this game is all about alts. If you want it to be more hardcore how about the debuff locks you out of credit for 2 games or 2 hours. That seems less wrist slappy.
HelinCarnate
How about the quit warzone button just causes you to cancel your sub and uninstal the game? Few will opt in for punnisment. For those that do, instead of leaving, they will sit around and do just enough to not get an afk boot. Please let those leachers leave and give me a random replacement. Then the ones that leave can hopfully get stuck with another group of people and you won't have to deal with them for a while. The deserter is the 1 guy who thinks he is the only viable player in the whole WZ and he shouldn't be stuck with people that can't match his epeen, so he drops to find a more skilled team to match his level of awesomeness. That is an important distinction in the mind of the deserter... He is not leaving and looking for a better team because he "needs" them to win. He is looking for a better team because he "deserves" better teammates.
hankart
Out of all the penalty threads I've read, I actualy like the OPs idea. I think this is similar to ranked WZs, but they could code this quite quickly. I for one would probably choose the advanced mode often as I generally never leave a game. But I do believe that this should always be an option for the casual player!
