How To Make Cantinas Populated

Create an entertainer class which can only dance/play music in the cantina.

After watching them for a few mins they can give you a buff and you can ask them what to give you (like you could have 5% this,or 10% this and 5% this etc)

Also let them give you plastic surgery (image design) in cantinas to change your appearence.

Reason this isn't in suggestion box is because no one reads it.

This isn't SWG

Who would play a class that sits in 1 spot all day?

SWTOR does not follow the SWG character class design. So I vote NO.

If you want Cantinas populated, you just need to put silly time wasting entertainment in them that draws upon the basest of human addictions. Player on Player gambling would be a good start. It could be a new form of PvP, where if you go bust, you explode and shower everyone else in the Cantina with body bits, that won't rub off. :D

OR, install a Bounty System, where you can consent to it, and you can only bounty or be bountied inside Cantinas.

Right now the only reason why many people goto Cantinas [like myself] is to log off so I can get the rested XP.

Perhaps they should look into things that forces a large group of people to want to goto cantinas and hang out there. Perhaps they should make Cantinas more like the Fleets. When I want to do an Operation or Flashpoint, I goto the fleet. When I want to goto the GTN, I goto the fleet and so on. So perhaps that same type of importance should be given to Cantinas. Perhaps Cantinas should be the hub for ALL of the planet's Heroic quest.

I just ran out of ideas but I agree with you, cantinas should be a bit more populated than what they currently are. Especially when you goto the Nar Shaddaa Cantina which Republic AND Empire can go into but yet it is always empty. People just go there to log off.

No onbe but as SWG proved, many will set a repeating macro and go do something else while your character dances/plays music in the cantina!

And your so right

THIS AINT SWG2.0

PS: In closed beta I wrote a very detailed submission about cantina socialization and bring people in

Many people on the beta forums agreed

EAowware responded with, "we will take it under advicement for a later date"

Its still not on the schedual (or anything that improves socialization and cantina meaning)

They have the imput on what to do from many many many closed beta players (this was a issue in beta we all saw and commented on), they just for what ever reason dont agree its of any importance.

And thats sad!

I had so much fun the first night I played SWG and was handed an instrument by some guy I barely knew who I'd met at the spaceport earlier and we jammed the night away in Mos Eisley.

Unfortunately, the game took a sharp downward turn after that...

Before the game was released and before I understood the game. I had high hopes and plans to have the Anchorhead Cantina as my main (hangout/login/logout) spot. I wish there was at least a GTN there.

To make Cantinas a place to hang out, all they really need to do is add the proper vendors there. Why do people hang around the Combat Area on a fleet? Because it's convenient... People are lazy by nature and if it's easier to just hang around the PVP combat vendors than that's what everyone will do, including myself.

Even on the Fatman, not a single person hangs around the Cantina.

People are all around the following:

- Vendors

- Banks

- Auction House

Bioware gave people ZERO reason to hang out in a Cantina.. not even a rest buff or something. (stay more than 5 minutes in the cantina and you get a little bonus or something)

I would hang out in a cantina if there were interactive games like sabacc or some form of gambling. Not that I have much money in game but having something that is different from the usual grind that offers some type of reward with a chance of risk might just be entertaining enough to hang out there all day.

In fairness, Cantinas are like Taverns in other popular MMOs. People only go to them to park for rested XP gain when they log off, or perhaps to purchase someting from the barkeep.

So I don't really understand why people want to rag on Bioware about Cantinas. Maybe because in the original movie it was a hopping place, but that was a deliberate scene set for a deliberate part of the story line..... people need to let it go.

This one is pretty good, but i would add a duel system only usable in the cantinas. Others could spectate and wager on the outcomes and the fighters get a piece of the purse and bonus exp.

Creating macros of flurishes to create music in SWG was alot of fun. Of course I love music production in general so this aspect of of course appealing to me.

I think introducing intruments would be awesome, but not entertainer classes. Just let anyone earn the abilities to play. Maybe even have daily quests for cash and items for playing in cantinas across the galaxy, The same could go for dances.

As far as buffs like they had in SWG, i say No thanks.

Pazzak and other similar games should be added to the cantinas. I definitally like that idea.

I think more non combat stuff could really bring alot to the table. Its stuff that is cool to be added and was not necessary at launch.

I do have to say this, if this stuff is added, dont add pazzak tables to fleet. Populate the planets more, we spend too much time on fleet as is.

I like the pazaak idea, also maybe a spectator mode for huttball matches, and...

*drum roll*

booze at the bar.

Doesn't have to be alcohol per se, but something intoxicating and star wars relevant would be nice.

Also an expansion of the current entertainment system, I like how the band on Nar Shaddaa changes set up/lighting according to the song you play on the jukebox. And finally, chairs that you can sit in.

Just because other MMOs do it that way doesn't mean Bioware has to follow it and just leave it like that. Besides, they have the SW IP to work with and like people said, they have many ways to go about it.

TERA's Stamina is a very interesting way of doing it. It's basically a health/mana buff (among other things) that only goes up when you stand either near a campfire/rest area of some sort. There are buffs that you can only get when it's above a certain point. It goes down when you fight things, and goes down a lot when you die. And puts a debuff on you when it goes to 0. I find interesting though because when you go to a town, more often than not you will people hanging out by the local campfire, usually at the center of town. It's a nice way of getting people to socialize around a certain place.

I think there is something wrong when I see things like "we should force players to go to the cantina". Forcing someone to do something is not something fun. And playing videogame is supposed to be fun. I don't go to cantina, because I don't want to. If I were forced to go there, I wouldn't socialize, just do the necessary stuff, then go away. I think I would be more an annoyance for the people trying to RP and socialize in a middle of a crowd, than anything else.

Cantinas are here. If you want to use them for RP/social, feel free to do so, but don't force players to do something because you think it's fun for you, according to your own opinion.

Also, entertainers sound boring. There is a nice music system in LOTRO (you can play music ingame, or use a pre-generated music sheet from outside the game, for the non musicians like myself), but there is no reward by itself, just having some fun. I used it from time to time with friends while I played to the game, and it was great IMO. No need to force anyone to have fun.

Just throwing a really big what if out there but the game has some decent cinematics so what if we can go to the cantina and click on a screen and and watch a shockball game. http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Shockball

And maybe throw in a thing so that u pay x amount of credits for x team to win and if they do you get a buff for a certain duration depending on the amount of credits you paid. But not like a game breaking buff something to encourage people to go out and explore other content like a 5% xp gain for 30 minutes or something. Or if you win the bets you get tokens used to buy sport related social gear.
