Differences between PVP and PVE

Only one technical difference:

Open world pvp.

On a pve server you can't attack players of other faction outside pvp areas, unless they choose to flag themselves on pvp and they can't attack you unless you flag yourself.

On pvp server you can always attack or be attacked by players of other faction on open world areas.

What he/she said ^^^^^

There are some pro's and con's of each server and it's really a matter of opinion which one you personally would enjoy more. The pvp servers can be annoying because people can kill you while you are questing and trying to level. However once you get high level you can return to lower level planets and seek revenge :tran_mad: It's also nice if you like to role play. Pve servers are good if you just want to play the game and what I recommend.

If you choose to play on a PVP server you will get bullied. Not often, mind you, but it will happen. One or more level X characters will beat up your level (less than X) character with no chance of escape or fighting back or doing anything except swear at the computer screen as your character is defeated.

If you are not willing for this to happen to you then play on a PVE server. On a PVE server you can still take part on consensual PVP if you want but it is your choice to turn your PVP flag on and off.

If you do choose to play PVP then be willing to communicate. You have to be active in chat so that when bullies do gank you then you can get friends to come and cover your back. Also, of cours,e you have to be willing to leave off your questing to go help others who are being bullied.

Greetings everyone!

We appreciate your helpful responses to the thread author's question!

You can find more information about server types in our New Player Guide under Getting Started:

Player vs. Environment (PvE) - In Star Wars™: The Old Republic™, Player vs. Environment servers serve as the "default." On these servers, you have the option to role-play as your character, and player- vs.- player fights must be agreed to by both sides.

Player vs. Player (PvP) - On a Player vs. Player server, players from the opposing faction can attack you at almost any time. Of course this means that you can also attack them at almost any time. This provides you with a more challenging experience since you are under the near-constant threat of attack, both from NPCs and from players aligned with the enemy faction.

Role-Playing (RP-PvE or RP-PvP) - Role-Play-specific servers are for those of you who want to take your role-playing experience to the next level and create your own persona in the Star Wars galaxy. Role-Playing servers are available as either Player vs. Environment or Player vs. Player, except on these servers players remain in-character at all times to provide a more immersive experience.

We hope this helps! :)
