Powertechs aren't OP

I'm a sage healer with full BM and a few pieces of war hero gear. Here's what Jager, a powertech, does to me on my server:

Here are the numbers: 24,478 damage in 9.624 seconds. If you don't count the dots that tick after I die "the first time" (I dunno, how can I die twice in a row?), he actually kills me in 7.308 seconds. But no, his class isn't OP at all. :rolleyes:

 

No other class even comes close to those kinds of numbers for burst damage, and the only reason sages can "out DPS" him at all is because of their AoE spam. Seriously, Bioware. What the heck?

for the people who dont understand this is all with Power adrenal/relix mixed with a Crit cooldown-

 

Lose the OP power Relic/adrenal multiplier- BIO op not the PT

 

 

post his dps when hes not BUFFED TO ***** with cooldowns- see how abysmal it is and shup

I don't think the ability to burn me down in about 5 seconds is balanced, regardless of their own defenses or lack thereof. The fact of the matter is that powertechs do more burst damage than any other class in the game, and they also have some really nice utility to back it up (slows, pulls, etc.).

1 Pull on a 45 Second cooldown limited by Resolve

1 Snare that is on 1 Target within 10M

Taunts (Which any Tank AC has)

 

Your definition of utility seems a bit....weak...

PT were this powerful pre 1.2. I may be mistaken buy Saerith aren't you the sage that was on the PT server and forums saying the healing nerfs were fine because you and your buddy were healing for 700k in voidstar.

 

How come now you changed your tune? If I'm mistaking you for someone else my sincerest apologies.

Heavy armor with approx 45% kinetic and Energy Mitigation in full BM. Yes clearly this is not a passive defense

 

Shield Generator off hand means they get even more mitigation on procs against many attacks. Again this does nothing to help survivability?

 

Reactive shield Reduces all incoming damage by a further 25% for 12 seconds.

Adrenal rush Heals the Vangaurd for 15% of their HP over 10 seconds (that works out to a 2.5k+ HoT for a geared Vangaurd)

 

Then add in depending on why spec you are things like:

 

Hold the line (CC immunity and movement speed) (Tactics tree)

 

Rebraced armour (+16% armor) ( very low in the Sheild tree)

 

Reflexive shield which reduces the cooldown of Reactive shield, so the more you get hit the quicker it will come back on line. (Assualt tree)

 

Yes clearly the Vanguard is lacking in defense.

This thread is about DPS Vanguards/Powertechs. Not Shield....

 

Plus you are mentioning a 31/31/31 Point build listing all those abilities.

I kind of agree with the OP. I have played a few games against powertechs and they are top damage while taking little damage due to their armour. Three of them had 300k damage in a voidstar, more than any other class. Why a heavy armour class can do this much damage is something that should be looked at while sages in light armour cant spam heal through one of them attacking you. PvP is slowly becoming not fun anymore....

Yeah, I'm actually comfortable with my sage healing. Sage healing feels balanced, but commando healing feels a little underpowered, and scoundrel healing is a bit too much for single targets. DPS wise, I like where most classes are. Marauders could use a very slight nerf (like 15% to force sweep), but powertechs really stand out as having far too much burst/overall DPS.

 

If you'll notice, I'm not changing my tune at all. I like where MY class is at in terms of healing. I'm complaining instead about powertechs. Big, big difference.

Some classes scale more then others w guild. If you take a good look at powertech, they'll gain the possibility of having a damage boost 2x 30% in certain scenario's + get a lot of crit on their main abilities.

 

This means concretely that they don't need to stack tons of crit, and that when the scenario's get to the +2x 30% zone the increase with min-maxing power mods gets pretty out of the roof. I'm getting critted 4600 with 1300 expertise in medium armor myself. I have 18000 hp and I'm operative healer, and teh best powertech can with right circumstance kill me <8s.

 

As of current their burst is unmatched. Combine this with high survivability, and you get something to worry about. Unlike marauders, which are kite'able (who also display signs of high dge/survivability), these guys stick to you like glue.

 

In my eyes certain classes like operative, sage need their defenses buffed a bit so they don't get melted in 6-8s. Nerfing powertechs will make them weak vs snipers, and will perhaps put them behind marauders, shadow tanks, etc.

 

Rebalancing is the word, not nerfing. I hope Bioware goes the right direction with this

Great, my tune hasnt changed either. Pyro PTs existed then and we needed a fast casting Deliverance to be able to save people against their burst. Now after championing George Zeller proposed nerfs in 1.2 against all us sages/sorcs who said otherwise you come here to complain about them.

 

At least they listen to you so all I can say is welcome to the party, albeit 3 months late. Why don't you read all the threads from every class about where they consider us now in the food chain while you are here. See where your awe of Devs got us.

 

Oh and I see you that know feel Marauders need a nerf... great. :(

Can't guard while in DPS Cylinder.

 

I am aware. Some PT's may choose to change cylinder depending on if their healer is getting beat on/the tank went down (such as defending a door or other similar situation where it is more valuable to have ttl for the healer than it is to have increased damage. ALSO FREE MEDALS!!! :p ).
