Urothefox
These guys consistently give me problems. Any thoughts on how to beat these bruisers? I'm concealment spec btw. Edited May 10, 2012 by Urothefox

KyoMamoru
Evasion removes all the dots, as does your untalented Toxin Scan.
Trauglodyte
1) stay out of their frontal vision cone to avoid getting detected (they've all got the anti-stealth skill)2) have your cleanse bound to an easy to reach key3) kite around LOS if you can4) bring help
JayPres
I almost always lose 1v1 if I don't get the alpha strike. The rare occassion that I can drop into cover and snipe I do decent damage; hit my in combat stealth to get behind them, then AB->HS for the melee opener. But is just so difficult. PTs are just mean with the damage output. I love it because it is such a challenge to stay on their heels instead of their hip. There are 2 on my server that kill anything within 10m. wishihadaname
Restealth and run. Or try lethality. I still get roflstomped by any pyro with half a brain and equal gear, but if I get into cover at 30 meters and lay down my dots before they notice, they rarely survive. The issue with them is that they have very limited utiity. One shield on a long cooldown, one very crappy self heal on a long cooldown, harpoon, 1 long range stun on a long cooldown, and one short range short duration aoe stun on an even longer cooldown. Against an agent in cover, their dps falls on its face since they aren't in range to reset their HiB, their dots get clensed (and cost a ton of ammo), and they can't close the gap. Some will use a stun dart + harpoon to pull you into melee range, at that point you have to stun and run or restealth and use your opener depending on how their health is, but you won't have to fear any more CC since your resolve will be full from that combo. Ich_Bin
Toughest matchup hands down. You cannot cleanse their most important dot. You cannot kite them because THEY kite YOU much more easiely. They can do >15k damage in less than 4 seconds with relic/stim popped so... pretty tough to counter them They have better movement (they can slow you almost permanently) they do way better damage (while generating heat not as quickly as we lose energy) they can do most of their damage from range and obviously they have better survivability. The obvious strategy would be to do as much internal damage as possible by using our DoTs (not mitigated by armor) but it's pretty tough to live long enough for them to have any significance. Bottom line: Unless you get to open on a Pyro PT from stealth you have no chance against one that knows what he is doing. If you get the opener from stealth it's closer. Bazzoong
There are some key points you need to understand if you want to have a chance, and it`s a uphill battle if you do not get the opener. What makes the good pyros so dangerous is that they will "sync" rail shot with the thermal detonator. They will put the detonator on you then dot you up and use rail shot at the same time as the detonator blows, if they get a proc they can use another rail shot here. This will take away a huge chunk of your health so fast that you will not be able to recover from that. You need to deny that combo. So you watch out for the detonator let him put 2 dots on you then use evasion, removing the dots and denying rail shot while at the same time dodging his normal attacks which would dot you up again. The detonator will go of just after you use evasion (you can also use shield probe here to mitigate some of the detonators damage, it crits rather hard). After that use your dispel whenever you have more then one dot on you. LoS and heal if you get below 50% hp, or flash bang and heal, this is very important since you will not win a pure damage race if he gets a decent amount of crits. Use your wz med pack before cloak screen to reset the once per combat timer use your expertise adrenal when he uses his, use your rifle shot a lot when he tries to kite, do not get kited if he tries heal up. Do not use cloak screen to early, try to use it when he is at about 40% hp. Good luck, this is probably the hardest 1v1 for operatives in this game, if the pyro gets really lucky with crits you will be in trouble it is all about countering his high damage moves. Ryemfoh
Bazz's write-up is excellent. All I'd add is keep DoTs rolling and LoS-heal early and often. Cleanse or Evasion away DoT's and use Shield Probe early as well (pref with Detonator as Bazz mentioned). This is not going to be a short fight, so prepare appropriately. Watch for CD uses - try to stretch out his resolve as much as possible (or blow it early so it will reset around the time you may need a long stun to heal). You will need to heal during the fight so stop DoT's when you get to ~50% so you can FB and heal to full.
Urothefox
Very interesting. Thanks for the tips, y'all. I hadn't known that about Cloaking Screen resetting our medpac use per fight.
HollowVamp
i rerolled operative from pt recently, pyro pt is still in need of nerfs i think, i felt so op destroying healers then the rest of their team, something about landing 2 5k railshots witha 4k+ thermal within a second of each other on geared people is ridiculous burst.( numbers include power relic/adrenal, bm gear, no augments) Edited May 15, 2012 by HollowVamp
