I imagine a lot of them are working on their resumes...

As for expansions, I seriously hope they aren't spending resources on something like that right now. They severely over estimated how popular this game would be, so I would be surprised to see an expansion before christmas of 2013.

What we'll probably see or SHOULD see is them whipping the game into where it should have been at launch. With LFG tools etc... Then I can envision them releasing small mini type expansions to coincide with their micro transaction plans for the future. Doubt we'll ever see a full blown expansion.

I understand, but honestly if they dont expand i dont think ill stick around until they do. i never played wow or any other mmo so its not like im comparing it to anything, im just sensing a lack of content (although it may just be another "1st world" kind of problem).

seeing as how an expansion is unlikely, would you - hypothetically - like to see if they did expand?

i miss dantooine, kashyyyk, manaan and all those other cool planets they had in the original series. also i would love to see space pvp (as in: starship vs starship), and of course pod racing.

would this be hard? lord knows how many games theyve already developed focusing on things like space combat and pod racing, i cant imagine it would be terribly hard for them to use content theyve already developed.

then again, im no programmer. i have absolutely no idea what an expansion like that would take.

The last word from the devs was that they were patching, not working on a full expansion yet. They said they were focused on additional free "content", which you can read as adding in features that probably should have been ready at launch.

There are a number of things they're working on.

The PVP team is reworking world PVP, and we have no idea at this point what they're designing.

There is still a secret "space project" going on somewhere with a team that was put together just after launch to work on something to expand space play.

There was a poll a few weeks back which pretty much determined that full 3D space combat was wanted by a majority of players, and something like this is most likely working its way into the game. (They also mentioned some other cool aspects that might be there some day, like vehicle combat.)

We've also had mentions of guild capital ships and capital ship combat.

And there are lots of content additions being worked on. Not only more flashpoints and operations and warzones but of course the continuations of our story chapters. At one point one of the game leads was mentioning how they had stacked out content years in advance, and that they were running through some of the that isn't slated to be added into the game until around 2 years from now.

They certainly didn't release everything they had, and they have lots of voiceover content recorded in advance that's in the process of being produced and set up.

One thing they mentioned at the Guild Summit back in early March was that the "Holy Grail" of operations as they saw it was the ending battle in Return of the Jedi, with a team on the Super Death Star, a team down on the forest moon trying to take the shields down, and a team in space fighting it out there. I fully expect they will get us to that point at some time within the next few years, if they aren't already working on such distributed setups. That's ultimately the kind of interactive play they want to provide.

And then of course there was the fun mention of Damien's wish, an iPhone/iPad app where we could run crew skills and resource missions from a smartphone or a tablet without being in-game. He did say that this was something that would be "Way, Way, WAYYYYYYYY" in the future, of course. But it also shows what they're thinking.

We've got a long road of content ahead. All we know for sure (for now) is that our character stories will progress beyond their current Chapter 3 "sometime this year", and have no solid date for that as of yet.

Open Space and customisable ships would make for a lot of very happy bunnies. SWG, despite it's many faults, had the space thing down pretty much perfectly. I doubt TOR would ever go for that degree of complexity (in terms of component stats/loadouts/handling) but anything would be an improvement on what we now have. The 'on rails' thing is tedious. The only reason I'm running some at the moment is to get the comms for crafting boxes, won't bother again after that.

Pod racing does not exist in the TOR era. We swoop race. We go twice as fast, but there is a small chance of crashing. So if you like high octane speed, you'll enjoy it. If you like NASCAR like racing where someone usually flips over, that ain't happening.

Really? No Pod racing in TOR era?

You have a official link saying this cause I find it hard to beleive Pod Racing (even though not in games) wasnt apart of the Old Republic mythos somewhere.

Dont see why Pod Racing and Swoop racings couldnt co exist at the same period of time.

You look down in the history section, it says it was most animal cart based until the invention of hanno speeders. The first modern pod racer was created by that Weenbus guy. And it wasn't really popular until the last days of the Galactic Republic. Right now, we'd be racing in large bulking speeders that don't have a lot of speed on them and it wouldn't be considered exciting enough. Swoop racing most likely influenced the creation of the Pods, but not for a bit.

technically anything going at any speed has the same potential to crash, it all depends on the driver

If that's the only lore then it's so vague there'd be no problem with pod-racing in SWTOR.

I believe you are incorrect. This game is massively popular 1.2 mil subs proves that, and I would think they have a large number of people working on an expansion And further patch content. Though i would think the exp won't be here until the end of the year at earliest.

And is the general forum the place to mock those unfortunate employees who have had their jobs cut across ea?

I'm not saying that it will never happen, but currently, the timing is not right. If pod racing exists, it'd be considered a boring sport compared to swoop racing. We don't reach the popular curve until the end days, which could either be 3,000 BBY or lower. You know how back in the 1950's, teens would do one on one drag races in big sedans or whatever and they'd be in like a drain ditch? They'd only get up to 60 MPH and the race ended when someone chickened out and loser lost his pink slip. Now compare that to street racing of today. Today, we do it in city streets, we have nitrous boosters, you can race up to twelve people at a time and you can win major cash. It's like we're in the 50's. Pod racing isn't as exciting as Episode I. It'd be just like a prototype thing. If the story advances, then yes, we could see the first steps of the modern age of Podracing. For now, the big thing is Swoop Racing.

a pve space mission would be cool where you gotta bring down a Star Destroyer or something like that and you gotta work together to kill it it could be like a raid boss or something.. and full all out free roaming space pvp would be awesome too..but thats probably never happening..

Er..... unless you live inside a Hollywood movie I'm not entirely sure these things particularly did/do happen. :)

But as I said the lore is so vague there's nothing to say anything about pod racing not happening, after all there's been that many cycllical rises and falls in SW lore anything can have happend and gone and happended again.
