Pvp sniper - how do you survive ?

Hello all , i am sniper who sometimes runs WZs(2 war hero gear + rest BM, near 1200 exp.). But i have serious issues with survival . These are ;

- Very low hp compared to other classes(just look at Mercs hp , and they wear heavy armor)

-%100 dodge for 3 seconds . Force & tech lol pwned.

- A very ****** shield.

- AOE knockback

Operatives burn me like they burn a lvl 10 person. Altho i have dodge up they just keep stabbing me (%100 dodge cd doesnt protect against it.. )

Assasins facetroll me , like they do to everyone. That deflecting shield or cloak of shadows , no need to explain rest.

Juggers - In huttball if you are in cover and he is in down floot , you can kill him if he just stands there and "waves" you.

Marauders - No need to explain , all salute the rapetrain

Only class i can kill with not much effort spent is Sorcerers , which situation no different than ours

-Our damage is very good compared to some other classes , but dealing damage as high as BH/trooper or sorcerer requires much more effort than them , you may know why. Only laid back damaging talent is Lethality

Whats your opinions and ideas about these ? I am kinda whining but not for trolling , i am a long 50 sniper player and think we need some more-or better defensive - survival utility. Thanks for reading

*shrug* I seem to do ok, by which I mean 50-50 or better chances of winning if it is just one person on me (and I'm getting a little better at this all the time). If multiple people are focusing you you're probably going to die. Which seems pretty reasonable to me, all things considered.

The only advice I can offer is pay attention to what the people attacking you are doing. Don't try and knock them back when they can't be knocked back. Don't waste your bigger damage stuff on them when they are shielded. Etc.

I seem to do just fine as well. Going up the engineering tree, I upgraded my shield. I then took some skills from the first 2 rows of MM for survivability.

As for low health points, I'm not seeing it. I have almost 19000 HP, but then again, I'm pretty well geared and I don't always put on my PvP gear since I don't have the best.

The key is knowing when to get up and run. Don't stay planted, even though you do get the +20% defense buff...

I'm straight Marksman with some extra points thrown into the other trees. I survive by, well, running! I like to do the Curly "Woo-woo-woo-woo" sound as I run, it's pretty great.

Against ranged attackers you can usually beat them yourself, but if you're caught unawares or already at lowish health, then just do unto them as they unto you: Break LoS, create time and space, and then find friends.

Against melee attackers that you can't realistically beat, look at their resolve bar. If they're white, Cover Pulse (they won't be knocked back, but the root still takes hold) or Leg Shot and get moving. If they're not white, Cover Pulse and run more easily--If they use their CC-breaker and leap to you, lol and Debilitate (Flashbang if you're MM and don't have to worry about DoTs breaking the CC) or Leg Shot and get away.

I honestly love when stealth classes open up on me. They expect me to frantically try and put up a fight--a fight they'll win because they're scissors and I'm paper--but I just punt them away, stun them, root them, whatever and ****. Then I go do something useful for my team while they pretend to be a one-man Wolfpack or something and cause their team to lose because they're effectively short one player.

my biggest problem is that i find people will literally stop what they are doing and come after me as a group

i really cant explain why

It's because if they leave you unmolested you can be very, very troublesome to them.

It's all in where you stand. If you're in Huttball, you should be operating on different levels from people, so you can easily knock them off. In Civil War, the same is true for you as well. When it comes to the other two maps, you should always position yourself so that you are 30 meters away from the main fighting, where you are still in range of Healers, yet no where near them. You shouldn't be near the reinforcement path of your enemies, or your allies. You should also have an object of some form that would prevent LOS by most ranged from the other team. Thus, the only means of attacking you is to walk through the 30 meters of no man's land between you, and them. :)

You need to make yourself a less attractive target. There are many places that you can stand around objectives that allow this to happen.

You should stop thinking of your role as 1v1. The game is designed for teams working together (or by surprise and range in open world). If you are up in everyone grill with the pact, you are wrong. I am not the best PvP player by any stretch of the imagination, but even with that, I am having the MOST luck and fun in PvP with Sniper. It hits harder then ANYTHING else that I have tried. The trick is you need to play it like, well.... a sniper. Hide yourself at range whenever possible. You would be amazed at how much you don't get payed attn too by the vast majority just because you are crouched behind a box and at a decent range, all the time they are going toe to toe with some melee class hardly doing crap to them, while you take chunks out of them shot after shot. Use terrain to your advantage in matches such as Huttball. I find using my sniper to lay back on one of the higher levels behind sandbags or a sniper wall in a Defensive nature can really turn the tide of a match. Anytime the ball carrier starts heading to your teams side, you get off 3 or 4 heavy hits and hopefully some CC for your team to catch up and finish him off if you have not by yourself. They come to you and get in range just by design while they worry about there chasers, not what lies ahead. Ambush them, after all, you have a move with the name. :D Also the sniper has a whole bag of CC. Don't count that short. Think of yourself like a mage in some since. You hit very very hard, and the trade off is your easy to kill if they get too you. So you need to think as a team player and not what class can pwn you and what cant.

If I were to offer some advice, it would be this:

YOU ARE NOT A TURRET.

Sniper has the same in-combat CC as an Operative and can keep melee off them in Cover with knockbacks and chain roots.

Melee on top of you? Pulse > Snipe > Snipe > Leg Shot > Snipe(or Follow Through)

Now they're stranded outside melee range after eating three Snipes and you can wind up an Ambush to knock them back on the way in.

Operative opens on you? Spin the camera around and stun them as soon as the Hidden Strike knockdown wears off. Run through them and Leg Shot, then crouch and pop Entrench to counter their stun or Flashbang.

Melee STILL on top of you? Flashbang FTW!

Sniper is a difficult class to play well, but has lots of little tricks that make it rewarding.

Pick your targets. That's probably the biggest tip I can give. you have one of if not the biggest burst opener of any AC and we specialize in killing blows. Know that you're not going to survive in the midst of the melee. remember you have that big red billboard that people recognize as something thats going to cause a problem if left untouched. In Huttball focus on area denial and holding the center, in the objective capture maps don't try to face tank.

Operatives are my nightmare as well, but if you can throw a kink in their rotation they're helpless, they're worse than us when face to face.

Juggs, well you're shooting white at a Tank, They're not going to go down easy. but you have alot of tricks to keep them at a distance especially since they cant charge you.

Marauders I don't really have a problem with. Keep them away while their god bubble is up and liberal use of debilitate and distraction keeps them from wrecking shop. Marauders take some ramp up time to get their combos going, like operatives if you can stop it early they can be burned down pretty quickly.

If I were to offer some advice, it would be this:

YOU ARE NOT A TURRET.

This. Especially If you're MM you need to be leaving and reentering cover every 6 seconds to keep up Ballistic dampers and snap shot.

my biggest problem is that i find people will literally stop what they are doing and come after me as a group

i really cant explain why

I love when i can kite 1 or more people. If they're stopping what they are doing and spending time chasing/killing me that's that 30 seconds or more they're not focusing on the objective. If i can get them away from the door, or down into the pit that sets my team up for an offensive action and is well worth the death.

I usually don't have much survivability issues with a Sniper in PVP. Granted, I'm still leveling mine and it's all in the sub-50 bracket., but I've found a few tricks that have kept me alive in group and 1v1 situations.

A lot of it comes down to using Entrench when you know the hurt is coming. This prevents all knockbacks and stuns, which end up countering a lot of nasty rotations.

I also use LOS shenanigans a lot when I have to be on the run. That plus Leg Shot and other control abilities makes me an annoying target for most.

But yeah, don't think of PVP in 1v1 situations, even if a Sniper can win in any of them. Use teammates to your advantage by targeting people far away that are already engaged. Also, once you're noticed, you're going to be swarmed as if you're a healer. This is mostly due to the fact that Snipers can burn through a target's heals with the right rotation. Plus, once you do get swarmed, the fact you're far away from other people or the objective ultimately helps your team to victory, earning you more commendations and valor.

Also, like the above poster says, an Operative's killing potential gets messed up when their rotation get interrupted. Most decent players now know to stun or immediately target an Operative that pops out of stealth near a teammate as well. This is because while Operatives are one of the better classes in 1v1 combat out of a successful stealth ambush, they're fodder when targeted by multiple people.

For Juggernauts and Bounty Hunters, Sniper have Shatter Shot. This helps a lot in increasing damage against armor heavy opponents. It then all comes down to using good rotations for single targets.
