assault or gunnery which is better for pvp dps?

well i have a lvl 50 commando with a valor rank of 81. i have only ever really had any success with the gunnery skill line in pvp. would like to know what others are doing for dps with this class.

At the current state of the game. Im speaking for myself.

I find it being Assault funner in PVP compared to Gunnery.

I would say play which you enjoy most, but overall Assault is better for PVP.

Remember to use your Plasma Cell if you are going with Assault.

what's your rotation in assault spec? (i'm new to this spec)

Assault is still not up to par against gunnery in pvp imo. It just doesnt pack the same burst as the gunnery tree currently, even after the nerfs a gunnery commando can out burst any assault commando. But i do feel gunnery is very tough to play now with our reduced damage and melee getting their buffs so its really a preference of how long you want to stay alive. Most teams will not primary an assault speced commando due to the lack of grav spam and less immediate threat compared to other classes. So both hold some strengths its really up to you on how you want to play.

i'm using an hybrid build and i'm going very well with it.

 

Assault is much better at the moment.

You can do overall less damage but you are doing better with all kind of situation.

You have much surive ability cause of Reflexive Shield.

You have more chance to survive a marauder cause of your ability to stay mobile.

 

Otherwise i've noticed a poor DPS ability against Snipers/Operative and Sorcerer cause of their Cover and Static Barrier that can't be pentrated with low accuracy shot (white) like full auto, hib etc.

 

So i've found a nice compromise in a spec like this

I usually play as Assault Specialist when i've to stay mobile against melee classes.

Sticky Granade, IR, HiB, Full Auto (only for the Proc and than skipped), HiB and a lot of hammer shots.

 

When i'm focus a battle where i'm not the primary target i play as a gunnery because with 60% crit chance on Grav Round i hit much harder. Without Armor Piercing Cell i still do from 2,5k crit on Sorcerer, 2,2k crit on Agents and 2.0k crit on BH.

Rotation is Sticky Granade, IR, GR, HiB, GR, GR.

 

The same tactics is when i've to focus an healer that need a large damage ammount or defensive penetration against a Covered target. Rakata Power Adrenal are very usefull at this point.

 

Analyzing a combat log i can say that my damage is 18% from grav round (60% crit rate) 17% HiB (42% crit rate) 24% Burning Tech (IR+Plasma) 10 % Sticky Grande (42% crit rate) and the rest.

1 v 1 pvp

 

Hammer shot for slow and DoT - Assault plastique - incendiary round - HiB - FA - Stock strike (hit them with this as often as tactically possible), HiB, Hammer shot untill assault plastique refresh and repeat.

 

(if the proc doesnt go off for insta HiB you can either try Charged bolts for another chance but by now the cool down on assault plastique has finished and its time to refresh Incendiary round and hammer shot DoTs... by then, you guessed it, HiB natural cooldown has also finished... repeat rotation)

 

this will drop targets quicker than even they can expect... dont be afraid to get in there and use stock strike, its a battle winner!

 

Dps pvp

 

You just have to keep the aoe's/dots going... usually at the doors in Void star or capping on alderan. Start with plasma grenade or plasma charge as the enemy dont get a warning for these, then mortar volley... then use the above rotation on already damaged targets as they have mostl of the time used their dmg mitigation moves/stims... basically be a vulture.

 

 

posted this ages ago, dug it out for ya.... hope it helps, glad to see assault is becoming more popular... gunnery is a joke and even more so now... assault still needs some serious tweaking though (not letting the vanguard use the skill tree for one)... I mean, ***) Good hunting.
