tekmojo
Hey guys, I've decided to show you all what a lot of people have overlooked as far as custom gamepad mappings go for MMOs. I've always wanted a more immersive experience when playing an MMO, and this is a more comfortable, and adaptable solution. Tools used with The Old Republic are: MotionJoy (my custom config file here), and Xpadder(with custom config included for Toggle-Mouselook and right joystick as mouse axis). You may have to tweak some things like sensitivity and toggle options with Xpadder as I don't think it saved over but shouldn't be too hard to change. MotionJoy includes drivers for 32/64bit OS for the PS3 controller. So follow the directions on their site to install that program first, Xpadder to follow that. Make sure to calibrate the PS3 controller after you install the drivers and do reboots when they tell you to. If you have any questions you can try and ask them here (can be confusing at points), I'm running 64bit edition. When you get both key mapping programs reading off your PS3, that's a good sign, from there you can customize your settings. Xpadder may need to be run in Windows XP (Service Pack 3) compatibility mode, as well as Run as Administrator, if you're having problems recognizing controls in-game. If you do download my profile configurations, check and see below what you need to change. Make sure to keep both running in the background when you start up SWTOR. Other than that, have fun and enjoy the new experience! Changes to make to Input mapping in-game: Targeting Target next enemy = Shift + F6 Target nearest enemy = F6 Quickslot Bar 1 5 = Shift + 1 6 = Shift + 2 7 = Shift + 3 8 = Shift + 4 Quickslot Bottom Center Bar 1 (Make sure to enable first) 1 = Ctrl + 1 2 = Ctrl + 2 3 = Ctrl + 3 4 = Ctrl + 4 9 = Ctrl + 9 10 = Ctrl + 0 11 = Ctrl + (-) 12 = Ctrl + (=) Should be a good start but definitely can be expanded upon. If it's too confusing just make up your own configurations but make sure to change your custom MotionJoy configuration to match in-game. Made a video today of me showing off the features and custom mappings, and a basic interface walkthrough. First one, so don't be too hard on me, but it shows off a bunch of different features so do try to watch the whole thing if you do plan on watching it, thanks. BradFett
Not sure why you would want to. It's a proven fact keyboard/mouse = faster response time. Why do you think they DON'T make cross platform shooters? Because PC players would dominate.
Keraj
it has nothing to do w/ responce time all with control Consoles are 2 joysticks, mouse and keyboard give you better feedback and control, not really faster just easier.

We probably both mean the same thing. Just using different terms to describe the same thing. Console controllers are just so clunky... about like the UI lol. tekmojo
It also makes playing 1st-Person quite satisfying and more immersive, example at the end of my video that's on youtube. Thanks for checking this out guys it's pretty fun.

Lokai
yep can do this, but you will always be slower at turning and key presses then someone with keyboard and mouse thats just a simple fact. but that said if you wanna noone is stopping you =

Why do you think they DON'T make cross platform shooters? Because PC players would dominate. That has more to do with the fact that controllers are pretty terrible for FPS's as far as how quick you can look around and whatnot. MMO's can work ok with controllers. I've never tried it, but (IIRC) FFXI had combined servers with console and PC players.
lethal_ghost
interesting think im gunna give this a go, im sure a controller/keyboard mouse differnce is alot less noticeable in a mmo, in a FPS they are miles apart
Kerista
Yeah I have no idea how to get your profile loaded into it. Any help would be... well.. helpful

Kerista
ok, I figured out how to load the OPs profile into motionplay, however, xpadder does not recognize the PS3 buttons while that profile is active. any suggestions? as far as a "walkthrough" goes, this is anything but that. Posting links with no instructions is not very helpful. Edited December 26, 2011 by Kerista

tekmojo
Sorry for those who have come here to look for support, I figured this thread would die off! Here are some updates that should help immensely: SWTOR Keymapping Diagram (Image): http://www.tekmology.com/downloads/pics/DualShock_3_swtor.png Xpadder and MotionJoy Important Changes (Image):http://www.tekmology.com/downloads/pics/xpadder_image.png A more updated thread is over on giantbomb.com for more support. You can use my as well, for help with this walkthrough. These are two places where I'm most active at. And are tied to email and notifications to make replies much easier to handle. However I will bookmark this page and periodically check on it. Good luck! Note: Anyone having trouble with working in-game, can check Run as Administrator, and Run for Windows XP Service Pack 3 for Compatibility tab when right-clicking Xpadder and MotionJoy. Dark-Skully
I could use some help if you don't mind. I have both programs Motioninjoy & Xpadder I have both of your mappings That I loaded into each program. I have Windows 7 64Bit Windows 7 sees my PS3 controller & it works just fine. I start both programs the only thing that works is R2 on the PS3 controller & my cursor moves up constantly with me even touching it. So i decided to start SWTOR and it does nothing not even R2 works on the PS3 controller. What am I not doing/doing wrong? Yes i am a NOOB this is my first computer game. So you know i'm sucking real bad with the keyboard
Snake_Eyes_
Maybe this will help. I am using this configuration now, in time as I learn more about what keys are important they may change. Ragun
How does this work out with the number of buttons. I know I use around 16+ different abilities on my characters at max level.. how does that work with a controller?

Snake_Eyes_
@ Ragun.... read info on this picture of keymapping, setup the way u like. i've changed it many times already the more i play. MotionJoy needs to be on default Ps3 controller of profile screen, check settings & select default to be sure then save and return to profile screen, test vibration then enable it... Xpadder needs to be setup the same way ur SWTOR keyboard bindings are (SWTOR Bindings screen: Jump = Space Bar, Xpadder: R1 = Space Bar). same goes for Quick Bar Slots... keymapping picture: http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u89/602marissa/DualShock_3_swtor.jpg
BadOrb
It doesn't. I have 32 abilities mapped on my xbox 360 controller so I'm sure the PS3 controller can do the same. Using xpadder. It does. Cheers, Badorb.
KaelabOspeec
I'm confused on how to use your motioninjoy profile on motioninjoy. The one labeled ps32. Could you give me a quick walkthrough on how to make that work?
