The X-Wing games was a popular Star Wars game series back in 90s by LucasArts. A series space simulators, you could play as either the Rebel Alliance or the Galactic Empire (in later installments) and pilot a series of fighters.

The series was popular which is why later installments and expansions were released. Although fans have asked LucasArts for a new game in the series, the closest was probably the Rogue Squadron series and the space combat in Star Wars Galaxies.

Garry M. Gaber has been involved in a number of Star Wars titles including writing, directing and producing CGI models. As a former developer at LucasArts, the Star Wars games he's worked on are Star Wars Jedi Knight, Star Wars Rebel Assault II, Star Wars: Masters of Teras Kasi, Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire, Star Wars Force Commander, Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds and the Clone Campaigns. Also other LucasArts games include Mortimer: Riddles of the Medallion. In addition, he created some of the CGI models for the special edition of The Empire Strikes Back.

Recently, Kickstarter has made headlines about the projects by former developers which have raised huge amounts of money. Tim Schafer, like Gaber another former LucasArts developer, started one to bring back the point and click adventure game genre which raised over 3.3 million dollars. Gaber hopes to bring back the space sim genre with his game "Starlight Inception", a spiritual successor to the popular X-Wing series. Set during World War IV, you play as a space pilot who is deployed to hotspots throughout the Solar System. Rewrads for backers of the project include a copy of the game, shirts, mugs, your name in the game or credits and more.

So dicuss about the project, any other Kickstarters you've seen and about any classic Star Wars and LucasArts game which you remember.

I really enjoyed the original X-Wing game and X-Wing Alliance even more. Bring back the Space Combat Sim! Really looking forward to this game, they already have some great designs for starfighters and a pretty solid idea for the game overall. Hope they reach the Kickstarter goal, so we can all enjoy the old school feeling of X-Wing vs. Tie Fighter again, in the modern internet era!
