Sorwen
With the change to the Vigilance tree does anyone know if Commanding Awe and Guard Stance stack? If not then I'm even more disappointed they changed it from the 4% Endurance bonus. Edited April 18, 2012 by Sorwen
Glzmo
This relates to 2.0 on PTS (sorry, did a search in the PTS forum and this thread came up thanks to the bad search algorithm): Yes, they stack. However, Guard stance is way worse than the armor bonus from Commanding Awe, which just feels wrong - Guard Stance only gives me around 2% damage reduction (even though it says 15%, so it may be a bug) while Commanding Awe gives 4%. My Defense guardian has lost around 6% Defense Chance at level 50 compared to live, it's been a big nerf to survivability. The 15% more armor/damage reduction would have made up for that and increased survivability, Guard stance just being 2%, it really feels like Guardian tank survivability has been severly nerfed in 2.0 compared to live. Also, Commanding Awe is very deep in the tree, while Guard Stance is easily available without hybridizing.
Andrew_Past
Yes, the two talents stack. It gives full vig players a nice boost for PVP. For PVE, I would go for the slash and dispatch crit instead.

Vig (6/38/2) Build 2.0 As far as live goes, you can get it and the crit on slash and dispatch, you just give up the buff to master strike, and sweep/cyclone slash in the Focus tree. Again that's sub-optimal for PvE and perhaps for PvP as well, unless you just play in Soresu exclusively. Vig (8/33/0) Build 1.7 Edited March 2, 2013 by Draqsko

Stagger is a must for PVP. Gather Strength procs quite often in PVP, and gives a decent boost to dispatch and overhead slash. Free sweep is nice filler, but not with the 3 point investment (free sweep almost requires getting swelling winds too). Accuracy could be better, but is not as important for PVP. Free sweep is nice filler, but not with the 3 point investment (free sweep almost requires getting swelling winds too). Accuracy could be better, but is not as important for PVP. If you are doing PvE, free sweeps with swelling winds performs better than stagger or gather strength. Free sweeps also means that you can immediately interrupt a cap in PvP, and it generates focus for you. Also, I still question the utility of gather strength, since it's very rare you get more than one or two stacks, that's only a 4 or 8% buff to your next attack that uses focus, the fact that is only lasts 10 seconds means all too often if you are chasing someone down and have it, it'll drop off by the time you can catch up. I had it when it was 5 or 10% per stack, it was worth 2 points then. They axed what was a good talent. Accuracy is very important for a Vig, in PvP and PvE. Master Strike, Overhead Slash, Cyclone Slash, Dispatch, Force Leap, Slash, Strike, Sundering Strike, and Saber Throw all depend on Melee accuracy, so are not buffed by 10% like Force attacks are. Having points in Accuracy talent is going to be a major way to get it given the new secondary stat curves. It's going to take about twice as many points in accuracy to reach the same percentage you have now. That makes the accuracy talent even more important in 2.0 than in live. Missing with any of those skills because you don't have enough accuracy will suck. And more points in accuracy talent means less points in accuracy rating, allowing you to use those points in crit, power or surge. Stagger really isn't needed, if you are doing it for Master Strike, MS will still connect on the third tick if you let it finish channeling, unless they do something like pop a speed buff and get really far away from you in that one second. Doesn't matter if they move away from you, most times they just can't get far enough away to avoid the last hit. The problem is, most people panic as soon as their target moves, and break the channel before the end, let it finish, it'll hit 90% of the time. The only time I've had it miss, was when Sorcs popped their speed buff with root break, in which case Stagger wouldn't help either, and they got either really far away or broke line of sight. You'll know this has happened because the attack cancels.
Andrew_Past
In PVE, yes, free sweeps are needed. They are not in PVP. I always have a way to do a sweep/cyclone slash to interrupt mass caps (leap gives enough focus, stuns give focus, combat focus is on a shorter CD and resets when getting out of combat, which includes on death). Free sweep is a filler move that doesn't do much damage and is only needed when you have 100% uptime, which doesn't happen in PVP. If you don't take stagger as full vig in PVP, you're doing it WAY wrong. There are classes with passive speed boosts that WILL get out of MS range before the last tick. Regardless, anyone will be able to get quite some distance away from you by the time the third tick hits. That means you have to close the gap again to do more DPS. With stagger, they're still in melee range which allows you to keep DPSing right away. Yes, accuracy is an important stat. But burst is more important in PVP. With 95% accuracy, my attacks rarely miss in 2.0 PVP. Speaking of burst... Yes Gather Strength used to be a lot better. However it still provides a good boost to a couple of your main attacks, overhead slash and dispatch. A lot of classes/tree got new roots and snares in 2.0, which gives me 2-3 stacks to use on a regular basis. Full 5 stacks do happen now, and I've already seen a couple 8k OHSs and 9k dispatches.
