terminova
What you should have learned is not to use AoE around flagged enemies. It's all about situational awareness. It wasn't the AoE, I don't think. The Sith Marauder wasn't trying to steal the boss, he was using the game to force flag the unflagged players by attacking a mob he knew they were attacking which in turn flagged them the next time one of their attacks hit the mob. Someone mentioned something similar happens in Ilum with the turrets that are not located in the PvP area, and I think it's due to a flagging mechanic, not Ilum in particular. Qoojo
There should be an option like in rift that prevents auto-flagging outside of WZs and PvP areas.
TheHoodedFang
Red= dead. Not many are going to stop and check level before starting the fight . Yesterday I mistakingly attacked a level 23. I would have stopped, but one chain shock, and they were dead. I'm sure there are some out there who take pleasure in killing the helpless. However this is not the case for all of us. Level check? You could easily identify him as a low level just with a single look...visual queues and all. If you can't differentiate between a 23 and a 50 something is seriously wrong, which I don't believe is the case. It's much more likely that you simply ganked a lowbie and then tried to act as though you had no idea what you had done until it was "too late", even though you were well aware of what you were doing the entire time. Giondi
Level 50 lads ganking lowbies is a depressing sight. It is like that scumbag 21 years douche who is still in high school bullying the Grade 8 kids. I still don't know why do people do it. Because they're bad at actual PVP, so they have to gank lowbies, then call their victims "carebears" to make themselves feel l33t or whatever. Most people hate this ****, just mention the offender's name in General chat and you'll probably get a couple 50s to come deal with it. Remember, it's annoying to get ganked, but it's funny to watch that ******* run away (usually crying about how unfair it is that "u guyz hva 2 gang up on me") whenever a real fight shows up. DwaneDiblie
I have had some interesting experiances with pvp during this event, some good some bad. Yesterday there where 4 imps stealthing around the pod at the end of the sand people streach. One would sneak just in to the blast radious of a un suspecting AOE attack and flag the player trying to kill the 4 rakghouls that pop out of the ground. Then the rest would jump in and smash the poor un suspecting player. Also just befor the servers came down there was alot of people crying about involentary pvp fighing near the vendor. In the end a couple of L50s showed up to police the area ans started in on anyone that was causing any issues. Funny one was when I on with my L28. I had attacked someone else earlier that was flaged and got flaged my self. Later I was at the boss sand person across the vally having a little trouble with him then a L50 Maurader came along, stopped, waved at me, /say "I am going to kill you. But first..." and he attacks the sand person and kills him for me, followed my killing me very shortly after. Polite pvp ganking. I thought it was so funny I couldent be angery at him/her for doing it. But the one I found most anoying of the lot was when we where trying to kill the WB in outlaws den. Those of us that had died and where making our way back where being intercepted by a group of imps at the enterance to the pvp area. Smart idea BUT it ment in the end very few people where there for the actual death of the WB and then they all ran away wonce we started getting any serious amount of numbers ready to counter. I was not happy.
terminova
I had this problem yesterday, I was fighting a group of Rakghouls and out of nowhere my companion just moved on to a near by Sith player. But he was okay with it as the same thing happend to him a few hours before... I dont know how the companion target system works, maybe they 'tab' around to next enemy in combat and attack it ? I know for a fact i didnt send her after him, so there must be something going wrong. The companions have a threat table they use to determine what to attack. If the flagged players somehow get on their threat table, even at 0 the companion might glitch out and attack them. Mako did that to a Pub a couple days ago when I wasn't flagged and just standing there.
Tatebomb
Not sure why people think this is unavoidable. I've gotten a crystal, did all the dailies, and bought 8 comp skin boxes(RNG ) and havent been flagged once.

Not if they are wearing orange gear and with 1.2 that going to be more often the case. Most PvPers use the Red is dead policy. With all due respect to those fooled or tricked into getting flagged, If you are flagged for PvP expect to get jumped.
Evangelist
You do realize that even on PVE servers there are PVP areas like Outlaws Den correct? You also realize that if you buff a flagged person or a non-flagged person in a party with a flagged person you get flagged for PVP correct? I've gotten a crystal, did all the dailies, and bought 8 comp skin boxes(RNG ) and havent been flagged once. had our entire group get flagged after one of our party exploded (plague) while standing out at the vendor on Tat (waiting for the plague explosion to go off). No companions were harmed in the resulting explosion. Mother-in-law's pride? Different story non-aggression code just needs a little tweaking here and there, not a super huge deal. DieAlteHexe
Yeah it happened to me once during this event too. I wasn't grouped or anything, it just happened while standing around the dna vendor after exploding or some such. Everyone else around me was suddenly flagged as well. Same here. One minute I was just standing at a vendor, next minute I was flagged and .10 seconds after that I was ganked. No idea what happened. Nowhere near Outlaw's, wasn't attacking anything, literally was browsing the vendor. *boom* Very strange.

Davloc
Never underestimate the ability of idiots to find new and interesting ways to be idiots. While I was levelling my jugg on Nar Shadaa, I had a L50 trooper wait till I ran up to an elevator button before running in front of me and toggling his pvp flag on, hoping I would right click him instead of the button. Fortunately for me he failed.
KBSIP
Just to clarify folks, I've done this extensively by ghosting pubs on my speeder: 1) If I infect you you WILL get flagged regardless of whether you have a companion out or not. the ONLY way to avoid being flagged is to avoid being infected by an imperial. Taleek
Yeah some of this is really annoying, getting ganked while questing. However its very satisfying to do it to them in return. Last night my friend and I got a group together for the world bosses. After we killed the first one we lost a few people, then moved on to trapjaw who we killed easily because he was level 30 for some reason. After we determined the last guy wasnt around ,we decided to go attack the hill. Now, there were some annoying imps standing up there who were flagged, some of them standing on top of the jawa hoping people would click them and flag, I guess. There were about 20 of us, and maybe 4 or 5 of them. Needless to say, they never stood a chance, and a few flagged guys who were coming up the hill turned and ran when they saw us x). Very satisfying!

You do realize.... hey wait, you actually confirmed the involuntary pvp that some of us have experienced during this event. I was all geared up to have some forum pvp Truth be told I didn't get ganked when I got flagged, I'm thinking it wasn't the intent of the exploder, that particular time
Ashu-ri
I thought that one of the recent patches changed how this works? You can't get flagged by using AOE on a PvP flagged player. Griefers were running into the AOE to flag people and then gank them. I'm not complaining about all of this (been playing MMOs a long time) but I want to understand the underlying mechanics and rules of engagement. Just trying to understand how I got flagged. The problem is, when someone of the opposing faction explodes on you, it flags you for pvp. Unless you unflag yourself and get to a cantina immediately, you would get ganked immediately. ivanhedgehog
Because its funny and easy to avoid? not easy to avoid..EXPLOIT when you explode from the rakghoul plague on opposite faction players it flags them.... what exactly do you do to the guy to stop him exploding? ivanhedgehog
Your either getting flagged for going into the Outlaws den or getting healed by someone in your group who was flagged. Make better choices. wrong again sparky..sith marauders dont heal anyone...and the dune sea is not a pvp area..also, team of 4 ..no companions

Hajizan
Eariler today I was playing on a PVE server fighting a few mobs when a person of the other faction came by me jumped off of their speeder and aoe the mobs I was fighing to get on my companions hate list. Soon as it happened I quit fighting and before I could put companion on passive, yep it attacked the other person, flagging me for pvp. If that is not harassment and griefing i don't know what is. This was supposed to be fixed in 1.2. It wasn't and people continue to grief others because "THEY CAN' they know BW will do nothing to them. Even better is the response from BW: I am Protocol Droid A0-K9, Human-Cyborg Relations. We are sorry to hear that you have encountered issues during Player versus Player (PvP) gameplay. While we can understand that actions such as those you have reported may seem dishonourable or unfair, we would like to remind you that PvP servers are specifically designed to allow for open combat between players of opposing factions. In the case of Outlaws’ Den on Tatooine, the game allows for combat against anyone, regardless of faction. An on-screen warning advises players who select a PvP or RP-PvP server of the consequences of this choice, and as a result our Customer Service team will not intervene or assist in resolving any PvP encounters or situations that take place on a dedicated PvP server. If you are playing on a PvP server and are experiencing difficulties with PvP encounters we would generally recommend that you ask your friends, guild mates or fellow players to assist you in the battle. If you are not on a PvP server and have activated your PvP flag, you can reverse this by going back to a zone controlled by your faction, right-clicking your character portrait on-screen and selecting the option to toggle PvP off. Please note that once you have toggled your PvP status off, it will take 5 minutes for the change to take effect and the status to be removed. tehsaturn
So, I had this happen to me as well, and I don't think I laughed so hard while playing a game before. Not sure how/what happened, but I got flagged for PVP while doing dailies with my L31 Trooper. Most people were too busy taking out their enemies for DNA samples to gank me. So it was smooth sailing for the most part. Fast forward to the Sandpeople Shaman/Mural quest. I thought I was in the clear and went to go fight the boss. I started the fight, and then randomly the Bantha and Wraid respawned RIGHT ON TOP OF ME while fighting, and I was like D'OH! I tried to hold my ground but I had to move out of the way and try and rethink my attacks. As I was fighting, a L50 Marauder comes up and owns the crap out of me and all the enemies around me. I try to fight back, but my puny L31 attacks have no effect on his superior L50 gear/stats. I died in like 10 seconds. At first I was like "lolwhut?" Then I just started laughing. I was a little upset that I was ganked and had no chance of defending myself, but the whole fact this guy came out of NOWHERE and just took everything out in a matter of seconds and was gone afterwards made me laugh so hard. Finished my quest and went back to Anchorhead so the PVP flag would expire. No reports of griefing/ganking, I just took it as part of the game, had a good laugh, and repaired my gear. Deyjarl
Rakghoul plague isn't the only cause of this problem. There are other ways you can be involuntarily flagged, although BW has said they are exploits. But I've yet to see any fix for these problems that have been around since release.
