Weapons for mirror classes

There have been many threads in the various class forums discussing the differing weapon options between mirror classes for Trooper/Bounty Hunter and Smuggler/Imperial Agent.

 

Could we have access to the weapon option of the Advanced Class Mirror? I am not suggesting that all weapons be open to all classes (that is a separate and much more complex development issue). What I am suggesting is that a Vanguard could be able to use a pistol or rifle and a Powertech also would have both options.

 

This should be a relatively minor development change (in comparison to opening up all weapon options) as each Talent is essentially mirrored and the animations for them could simply toggle depending upon the equipped weapon. I know that it is not quite as simple as that, but in many cases it is and the number of talents that would require complex changes should be fairly small.

 

It is obviously not going to impact the damage ability of the talents in any way. A pistol equipped by a Vanguard should have exactly the same impact on their stats as a rifle with identical mods. This is primarily a change to help differentiate the style and appearance of characters and I think many people would support this.

 

Just to recap, I am not suggesting that Scoundrel should have access to an Assault Cannon, just the weapons of their mirror class.

That would be nice. But to clarlify... does a pistol really do the same damage as a rifle? Or are you suggesting that as part of the change here? I thought the base damage hierarchy was: pistol --> rifle --> assault cannon or sniper rifle. I don't have a model of each handy with the same barrel but if anybody does I'd appreciate if you can check. Perhaps a quick look at the commendation vendors would tell us for sure (they should sell the same level of item).

 

In other words, I thought it was a "feature" that some classes could use weapons with a higher base damage on them, barrels otherwise being equal.

I could have sworn that early on I did that comparison and found them the same (or nearly so) in damage. This was done at low level, so I don't know if the disparity becomes greater as you get more toward level 50.

/signed for having the choice though.
