Ok, I'm sick of hearing people complain about TAB, if you look in the key binding you guys know its "TARGET NEXT ENEMY", so it does exactly what is says. If you also look in the KEY BINDINGS, there is a bunch of other targeting features that arent binded, such as Target Closest Enemy. MAYBE you guys are thinking of that one. BUT until you actually look at the Key Bindings can we PLEASE stop blaming TAB for anything?

Also if you want to be better at PVP, might try binding some keys to make it better, I for one am a Casual PVPer, and Still have plenty of fun PVPing...

I think the issue resides in what Bioware considers your "next" enemy. "Next" shouldn't be the same as "next random."

1. Who is your "next" enemy when you're targeting your "first" enemy. It shouldn't be some guy way out of your field of view.

2. Who is your "next" enemy anyhow? You would think it should ideally be somebody nearby. It often isn't.

There was an enormous thread on this not too long ago.

It was a poorly implemented feature.

It still is a poorly implemented feature.

It will likely always be a poorly implemented feature.

Sometimes it works "ok" yet other times it makes you wonder who the heck wrote the code for this game.

Its not better, it does what its supposed to do, Target Next Enemy, lol,

no it doesn't it targets someone behind you 85% of the time. when it should be targeting next enemy in front of you. since 90% of attacks you have to be facing the person you attack

See but it doesn't. It doesn't cycle through targets properly and often it will target off screen. Additionally, try tabbing to a target above you on the terrain...good luck with that.

Tab targeting's poor functionality gets overlooked because so many noobs can't figure out that it isn't (nor is it supposed to be) target nearest. Please ignore those noobs, they aren't discussing the real issues.

Pretty much this. "Next enemy" is too arbitrary to be considered the default targeting system.

Glad people are answering this one. It goes way beyond begging reason that this hasn't been fixed or improved.

How can you pvp if you can't reliably pick a target?

They should rename it something other than pvp.

Perhaps pvrng?

If a guy is hitting me in the face with a saber and i have to press tab like 5 times to target the guy, its not right.

I dont even know how to fix it I just know i used it in SWG and i never had that type of issue, I dont know what was different because it was something i guess i took for granted. Kind of like sitting in chairs or open space.

There was an hysterical satire post on this a while back. Can anyone find it? It read something like:

"I enjoy the random element this game has to targeting. Unlike other mmo's it keep me guessing."

Really, it had us rolling.

If Hes hitting you in the face you should be using TARGET - Closest Enemy lol

Right. He's one of the people who misunderstands the problem with tab targeting in its current state.

IMO, everyone should have "target nearest" bound to a separate, reachable key for situations like the one he's talking about.

Yeah mixed with 8 peeps, and dont work in fan way, shut up, random

Plated any other mmo, this one is bad for targeting. simple go play another and see for your self

I have no idea what your saying..But I agree?

I only agree with his 2nd post...the one where he quoted himself...I think.

or the 3rd one where he quoted himself again.

I have both target nearest and target next set to hotkeys. The latter I kept set to TAB as it's pretty standard for MMOs.

Let's say you want to play with a bit more finesse than the scenario you're talking about (eg., where you want to target just one enemy and mash your KILL THEM key).

Take a deep breath and imagine ....

- I want to CC the healer next to the DPS I'm fighting.

- The healer is NOT my nearest enemy, who I have targeted. But you could argue he's the "next."

- I hit my trusty TAB key.

- Oh no! I'm now targeting someone I can't even see.

- Damn, the healer just healed the DPS I was fighting back to full health.

- Ok, no problem, I'll smash through his heals.

- I hit my "target nearest" key to get back to the DPS

- Oh no! I'm now targeting some other DPS who is on me, I didn't want that.

- So I hit my trusty TAB key again, thinking it will put me back on that DPS I started this fight with.

- Oh no! I'm targeting someone entirely different now!

- So on and so forth.

If this is your idea of pvp gaming fun, then enjoy.

But it's what most of us have been calling the PVP / TAB targeting nightmare and it's far from new. We've been asking for a fix on this for a long, long time.

Define clockwise when my targets are lined up in front of me in single file, or staggered.

Then show me a video of it working properly.

I'll give you $200,000,000 to develop a new game.
