tehrealdealz
Like the title says, if your a casual PVPER or someone that comes from the WoW community, where everything is handed to you once you reach level cap, your in for a very nasty surprise at 50. The gear grind is a downright nightmare atm and youll be going up against players that are a majority of time decked out in full battle master gear. Yah right now is not a good time to be a casual and I suspect most of the QQ on these forums are from casuals. I cant say I blame them though. Lucky for me i'm full battlemaster with 2 pieces of War Hero gear but even I still get bursted hard. Anyways, to all the casuals, good luck. You'll need it. You don't like 'TAB and hope' targeting, it's only for hardcore pvp'ers who enjoy that random sense of "who am I hitting anyway?" You don't like the inability to queue with 8 people. I mean, who cares who you play with? You like the hamstrung / bugged ability to queue with 4 ppl. Design flaws in a video game are ONLY FOR THE HARDCORE. You like there being no deserter debuff. Quitting a match midway through is only for the truly hard core. You like short handed (eg., 5 vs 8 matches). Playing against an unequal opponent is ONLY FOR THE EXTREMELY DEDICATED AND SKILLED HARDCORE. You like having ABSOLUTELY NO WOLRD PVP. World PVP is only for casuals and noobs. You like having NO PVP AT ALL with the exception of a couple hours per day. Too much PVP is only for casuals. Hardcore players need to go take their naps. So yes, listen to the OP. Don't play if you're not "hard core."

flem
I don't agree with most of the current qq threads, but OP here has a point. With a new tier of gear, most of the hardcore PvP players are commo grinding pretty hard, and in premades. The casual PUG experience now is likely pretty miserable compared to a few weeks back. Ranked was supposed to fix this by leaving a casual bracket for 50s, but... Edited April 15, 2012 by flem

I was completely decked - didn't have the tier weapon yet - hit glad twice and duelist 3 times starting in Season 2. Want to put money on that? tehrealdealz
Considering you had to wait for Arena points every week, I doubt it. Probably referring to the honor PVP gear. I myself could grind the honor pvp set in less than a week or maybe even faster depending if you could get a semi premade going. But ill say this, grinding pvp gear in WoW is like walking in heaven, compared to the pvp gear grind hell in swtor. Not too mention that yes there are alot of really really pissed off geared players atm that are grinding hard in preparation for ranked wzs. Also me and my guildies make it a habit to target fresh 50s in WZs and make it a living hell for them any chance we get. Most of the time theyll suck it up but there are times when the opposing team will go from 8 players to 6 thats when we know we did our job

You do realize that the starter pvp set you can buy with minimal cash is comparable to battlemaster gear right? This allows a casual pvper to literally jump right into the mix. Of course, I see lazy *****es jump in with pve gear and wonder why they get face-rolled.

Jeopardydd
lets say you get 40 comms per match (which is actually on the high side for losses), and you play one full match per 30 minutes (playing + queuing) it's 84k coms to get WH armor that's 2100 matches at 40 coms/match. that's 63k minutes, or more than 43 full 24-hour days of play time. or that's more than a year of playing 4 hours a night 5 days a week (playing 20 hours a week for a full year). that's only time spent doing nothing but pvping. add time if you want to, say, craft or go to the bathroom. by that time, there will be multiple new, better sets so you won't be even in gear even after all that time. and that's with a fairly high number of coms won from the losses. and that's without having to get your BM gear first, which is a whole 'nother grind. yes, you get some from dailies, and you win win from time to time when you get with a premade and against pugs...but come on.... BS. recruit gear is NOT comparable to BM gear. you would be at a big disadvantage just from expertise (damage, mitigation, healing received), not to mention endurance (you get something like 1/3 less HP's), primary stat, crit, surge, armor rating, alacrity, etc. what planet are you on? Additionally, each seasons gear was about 10% better than the lasts, so it would take you months to gear up.

He's part of the "be as giant of a hypocrite as possible and hope people believe my lies" planet. If he thinks the recruit gear is fine and he's that skilled, he can just buy another set and use that instead of the BM gear. I'll even donate to the cause if he's on my server. But obviously he won't do that, because he knows full well the advantage gear, premades and voice comm all have over ungeared unorganized no voice comm PUGs. And that's what most MMO PVPers NEED because they fail at everything else in their lives. This is their one arena where they aren't flaming losers with no friends and no skills. Lucky for me i'm full battlemaster with 2 pieces of War Hero gear but even I still get bursted hard. I played Warcraft PVP for seven years on every class they had starting with a Holy Priest (ranked Knight-Champion on the old system). There was nothing easy and you certainly didn't get good gear "handed to you". Not in the battlegrounds anyway. As for playing SWTOR, I started playing my Shadow in the Warzones mid-last week at level 45 with no PVP gear at all. That character is now level 50, valor 60+ and 60% BM gear. I had no trouble purchasing gear pre-patch 1.2. The last three days are obviously another story. But, there's more to post patch 1.2 Warzones than the gear changes. The Imperial classes have been buffed unneccessarily and the Republic classes have been left to swing in the breeze. According to your rationale, if Republic players don't have - either all BM gear or a very strong constitution toward getting their @sses handed to them - then we just shouldn't show up to play at all. Somehow, I doubt that is what Bioware intends.
lexiekaboom
Yesterday my friend (50) PVPed with me for the first time. He bought the PVP gear for credits and was able to do just fine. Respectable damage and kills every match, although sometimes he would just get facerolled by teams that were also facerolling me in full battle master. We PVPed for about 7 hours. He bought two battle master pieces (which no longer require him to have a valor rank). He has 300 ranked tokens from quests (and 100 more coming when he finishes the 150 kills weekly). We are going to do it again tonight likely, which will get him 2 more pieces. By the end of next weekend, he will be in the same gear as me with 14 hours of PVP a week. A number I would say is causal (2 hours a night). True story.

dondiwayne
He's part of the "be as giant of a hypocrite as possible and hope people believe my lies" planet. If he thinks the recruit gear is fine and he's that skilled, he can just buy another set and use that instead of the BM gear. Recruit gear is fine, i mean you basically get it for free once you reach lvl 50, so don't expect too much from it, it just gives you the basics to even participate in pvp. PS: I could kill full BM players when i only had Centurion which was way worse than Recruit gear. What people fail to realize is, that the patch completely reworked PvP and that full BM players also die way faster than before 1.2 But obviously he won't do that, because he knows full well the advantage gear, premades and voice comm all have over ungeared unorganized no voice comm PUGs. Ofc there is an advantage in BM gear over Recruit gear, why would you buy BM gear else? Ofc there is an advantage in premades and Ofc there is an advantage in voice communication but noone forbids you to do premades yourself and use voice communication. And that's what most MMO PVPers NEED because they fail at everything else in their lives. This is their one arena where they aren't flaming losers with no friends and no skills. Aren't you "flaming" here because you "lose" and have no "friends" to do a premade and probably lack the "skills" to join a PvP guild?

Comparable? what lol The recruit gear isn't anywhere close to BM gear. PVP in this game isn't very different from WoW, except in wow they don't give you ANYTHING to start with. You start with 0 resilience and get destroyed and basically afk games until you get geared. lol @ the wow hands you everything when you're 50, please. This game is just as casual as wow. Yesterday my friend (50) PVPed with me for the first time. He bought the PVP gear for credits and was able to do just fine. Respectable damage and kills every match, although sometimes he would just get facerolled by teams that were also facerolling me in full battle master. Compare his damage now to the damage he does in full BM, you'll see why people complain. I highly doubt you can get 1000 commendations in 2 hours of game time. Even if you won every single warzone with 10+ medals and instant queues you couldn't get that much. Edited April 15, 2012 by KhealThar
