Why I canceled my account

Believe it or not, this is not a rant. I would hope that whomever at Bioware would take the time to read this (although I doubt it, which is one of the reasons I quit) for constructive criticism.

I have played many MMOs over the years, and this one was a failure for too many reasons that I honestly want to take the time to type out, but I will list my main reasons.

Crafting...

I am one of those players who play MMOs for the crafting experience. SWTOR has to be the worst implementation of a crafting system and economy I have ever seen. First and foremost on what planet do they come from where they think I want to click and wait and then call this "Fun" or "Playing a game". For me its not about the rush to 50, it never was, I enjoy the journey. Where most think its a waste of time to have the best gear possible at lower levels, I take it as a challenge to keep my Alts in the best gear for their level at every level. So I created an alt for every craft so I could basically be self reliant. But the process of attaining the materials and crafting is absurd! It would take hours clicking to missions...wait....get 3 mats (when the formula calls for 4, and that's IF you were lucky enough to get the right MAT to begin with) click to mission again, ok, maybe now I have the mats, now click and wait some more for the 20+ mins it takes to make the ONE piece. I found that a majority of the time I was clicking to create or harvest and going off to say watch TV, read a book, surf on line before I finally just had enough. I have said it once before, a crafting system such as the one on LOTR is a great example of one that works exceptionally well and even after all these years has a booming economy as a result.

In frustration I haven't played for weeks, I log on after this supposed great "legacy" patch only to find nothing really has changed. I tried to start and re-equipt my lowest level char (lev 19) only to have spent 1.5 hours trying to get MATs together, then craft, and at that point I STILL had not completed the set. To make matters worse I was struggling to make blue armor at level 13 and 15 since there WERE NO schematics for pieces at level 19 such as boots, gloves, basically everything except pants and chest. Really?? Level 19 in low level blue gear and that's the best I can get?? Ridiculous.

Lastly there is the MATs, or should I say the lack there of. Scouring the planets for 2-3 different kinds (when the nodes were not broken that is) and 100% of the time it was pointless as the ones I really need are mission only and those missions take 10+ mins to run and WAIT only to come back mostly with what you dont need and never in the right quantities for absurd amounts of credits to run. Over the course of time I played this game I spent hundreds of thousands of hard earned credits to advance useless crafting professions. Check the crafting forums to confirm that there is something wrong with pretty much every single one.

Lastly, this "All about the higher levels" thing. Sure they need content as 99% of the population is obsessed with reaching max level and never appreciating the levels between, as if getting to the max level is the only way to challenge yourself (evolve, get an imagination), but outright ignoring the lower levels is a mistake in my opinion, and a big one.

In closing I want to reiterate, Bioware, if your listening, this customer has sent you their last monthly fee. (given on a Sunday morning there was no one online I am guessing you are loosing customer in droves due to lack of proper attention) I cannot for the life of me figure out why you EVER thought that a crafting system that involves clicking and waiting 30+ mins at time would EVER be stimulating or fun is so far beyond me I amazed.

Maybe in a year or so they will smarten up, stop trying to re-invent the wheel (if it aint broke dont fix it, there are plenty of MMOs out there that have worked out the kinks to what works and what doesnt work for economy). I get that you were trying to be "Innovative", but that would just mean improving something that works rather than creating from scratch a system that goes way beyond bad. Good luck to you Bioware, you have a stellar reputation to creating great games, I know I have enjoyed many of them, but your stint into the MMO world is the first time I have seen you fail on such an epic level.

Cheers---canceling out.

No one cares. Cancel and leave. Don't know why you think you need to write an essay when you do it.

Because He's hoping that someone of worth (not you) reads it and says "yeah, maybe we can do things a bit better". Clearly the game now is a mess and needs some change. Devs need constructive critisism rather than blind sheep throwing up their fanboi hate/rage. Enjoy your empty game kid.

You make a lot of good points but I think the time based crafting is their attempt to stop bots from taking over the gathering professions. It's not a bad idea and I kind of like it but I have run into the same issues as you.

The GTN is badly implemented which means you can rarely find what you need there and there is nothing more frustrating than to be 1 mat short of making an iteam and need to run another 20 minute mission instead. That will get better as they fix the GTN but is no doubt annoying right now.

I also would like them to implement a "mail to legacy" feature. So many times I craft something on an alt to send to myself on another toon and forget I did it. Logging in and out is a pain so it would be really nice to be able to have the option to mail an item to an alt upon completion. That way I don't need to relog and will get the item soon after completion.

In any event, I'm sorry to hear you are leaving. I can understand as the game no doubt has its frustrations and I'm playing in hopes things get better over time.

I have to say, I am quite happy with the crafting in the game now since the patch.

Yes, it can be difficult to get all of the pieces you need, but that is why you have alts, a GTN, etc.

I think what it comes down to is that, if you want a game that is centered on crafting, you're not going to be happy with a a game that makes its focus on the playing.

Most people consider crafting to be an important secondary aspect of the game, or put even better a support component. You use your crafting to help provide resources/gear/consumables/etc. to support the core aspects of the game, which involve either PvE or PvP questing/ops/warzones.

The truth is that I think most people like crafting involving something you set then can ignore for 30 minutes while you play the game that you bought the software to do.

If you were more interested in crafting than the actual game, then I can understand why you might be disappointed, but there are more economy-focused games (and I don't even mean MMOs) out there that would probably suit your taste more.

And the OP should have listed you as another reason why he's canceling his account. Community is every bit as much important as the actual game in any MMO. If the community is filled with jerks why would someone want to play?

That's one more monthly sub you're kicking out the door on Bioware's behalf, and given the majority opinion about this game outside of these forums and the ever dwindling server populations, I'd expect you "valiant defenders" of this game would want to clutch onto every last one. Because quite frankly this game is headed down the tubes. Now you might think "A month ago they said they had 1.7million subs!" Yeah... Wait til Tera, D3 and GW2 launch.

As of last Thursday you are now able to mail to any member of your legacy regardless of faction or level. Were you unaware of this?

I've played many MMO's and I have to say this is one of the best crafting systems out there.

It is a system that you can't power level to max in two days, which is amazing. This is a system that doesn't cater to the instant gratification generation, which is also great.

This is a system that takes time level, and time to learn new schematics, which is more consistant to how things really should be in crafting.

I for one find this system refreshing.
