BM set bonus can't be moved to augmented gear

My understanding was that post 1.2 BM items (new ones) had the set bonus attachet to the armoring, so they could be moved into orange (custom) gear. Pre-1.2 BM items had the set bonus bound to the shell, so it couldn't be moved.

So I waited, I didn't invest time and resources to buy pre 1.2 BM gear and I did it right after 1.2 was applied..

Yesterday I bought BM supercommando legplates, crafted an augmented version of them and today I moved the mods from the former to the latter.

Guess what? I lost over 100k credits for the extraction, 50k for the gear schematics, more credits to get the mats and the frigging set bonus wasn't bound to the armoring or any other mod!!

I never rage quitted a game in my quite long MMO experience, but it's getting very tempting right now.

I'm already very upset by the changes to pvp rewards (credits wise) and the cost of pvp medpacks, and this is just another drop in the already filled up jar...

I really hope this is a bug and not working as intended.

A very piseed customer (worth 2, since I pay 2 subs).

no its just another of biowares many failed promises. somewhere on the pts forum they mentioned that it wouldnt be going live, even tho it was promised when 1.2 was announced

i believe i read somewhere pre 1.2 items the set bonuses are attached to said item and post 1.2 items the set bonus is attached to the armoring in the item.

Example- 1.2 BM chest holds the set bonus stat on it thus you can pull out the empty shell and have the BM chest to make a tank marauder set out of!

1.2 BM Chest has only the base stats on it, pull out the armoring and put it into the same slot piece and the set bonus xfers over.

No you had to have the same Mods in your gear when the patch went through,if you did not put back in your original mods you lost your set bonus, atleast that was my understanding.

no bioware couldnt deliver on promise. also new Battle master gear doesnt carry over set bonuses either. at first it will look like it does but eventually it will not. Only armor mod 61 carry over set bonuses

Some guy in "general" chat told me that the set bonus (he tried with columi gear) are actually moved with the armoring mods, but they just don't show up on the tooltip (of any bits).

If it's really so, then it's not as bad as I thought, it's just a graphical bug.

Still, I'm not gonna move any other mods until it's fixed (since 4 items are still good for the full set bonus).

if you're hating the way you look at least you can still swap out the chest and unify to chest color to look decent.

M8, I don't frankly care too much about the way I look (still, nice if I can chose).

The fact is that I'm moving items into orange gear with an augment slot, so that I could put an augment in and increase the gear stats.

If I lose the set bonus in the process, then I might re-consider if the stats increase is worth the loss of the set bonus.

set bonus does not transfer from BM armor period, regardless of the time of its acquisition. only war hero or campaign gear has transferable set bonuses.

another brilliant decision brought to you by bioware

I moved all my gear over to social gear before I realised the set bonus didn't move.

Tbh, I don't regret it now. I still kick butt in wz's, I still do my job just fine. The set bonuses help, but they are not needed for you to smash the enemy.

I'm going without my set bonuses until I get warhero.

This is what they said. So you should not be surprised if you followed the statements carefully.

I'm just glad the chest piece is the one I did, so I can unify my look and not lose my 4pc bonus.

Also you can't put a chest armor mod into a bracer, the way it read was you couldn't do that to receive the set bonus, but it won't let you do it period. Which kind of sucks since I wanted to bump up my orange bracer and belt, but you are stuck with either 126 mods or really pricey player made ones.

Heh I checked first with 1 piece, as wasn't sure whether they did it or not. My tooltip showed 5/5 set bonus afterwards hovering over the other pieces. Happily I proceeded to switch all my other gear but 1 also to the lovely red & white BH medic pvp lvl40 armor.

Then zoned to a new zone, poof graphical _GLITCH_ gone set bonuses 1/5 showing, tested with skill no set bonus effects, ahahaha.

800k credits down the drain, whee. :)

The patch notes mention:

•Players can now remove Armoring modifications that have set bonuses from items and transfer those set bonuses to Custom (orange) items. These modifications can only be transferred to an item that is equipped in the same slot. This does not apply to all items with a set bonus, only those where the set bonus is attached to the Armoring modification.

They don't clarify which armorings do have the set bonus attached and which don't though. For that you need to dig out an obscure post from the PTS forums which, hmm, kinda clarifies it:

The part that only applies to new gear is the set bonus. Before Game Update 1.2, the set bonus is attached to the shell item, and thus it cannot be moved from old items. In Game Update 1.2, the set bonus will be attached to the armoring, meaning you can move it between items.

Really though you could take that post to mean that "new" gear includes the newly itemised BM gear that came out with 1.2. But that's not the case. Long story short - you can only move the armoring from WH gear (or the new PvE stuff) and have the set bonus go with it. Otherwise - whether it's old or new BM gear or earlier - don't bother.

GZ made a post this past week that was very clear on how the new gear would work. if you search through the dev tracker it is probably still there, seeing as there have been very, very few dev posts since the ranked warzone fiasco

Ah yes quite right, this'll be the one you mentioned:

http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?t=399000

I still think they could have been clearer about it. He does say the set bonus from WH gear moves with the armoring, but doesn't specifically say that won't happen with older gear.

I haven't personally even tried to move any mods around myself, but evidentally plenty of people have and found out (to their cost) they can't keep the PvP set bonus with anything other than WH. So it would have been helpful for them if this was made very clear or, even better, older gear had its set bonus moved from the shell to the armoring.
