lacoffee Posted April 13, 2012 Posted April 13, 2012 An act of desperation? Discuss They terk r jerbs!
Captiosus Posted April 13, 2012 Posted April 13, 2012 Actually, that's the one thing I didn't find being terrible "desperate". Lots of pay-to-play MMOs have done similar things in the past. Some for a day or two, some for a weekend, some for a week. The desperation, to me, is in the free month being given away. The fact that time is being given doesn't shock me - that's been done before too, usually over support or downtime issues - but the fact that it's being given away after a highly touted, anticipated, major content patch is why it smells of desperation. It says, to me, that they expect to not only fail to reclaim many former subs but they also expect the rate of turnover to increase rather than decrease, so they're taking a short term financial loss to try to prevent a long term one.
