Patch 1.2 DPS Compendium

Recommended Posts

With patch 1.2 just around the corner, I've finished updating my old Madness DPS compendium out at Sithwarrior. The new compendium includes all dps specs (not just Madness). I've updated the guide for 1.2, and vastly expanded the gear and spec specific sections with a ton of new data and information.

Warning, it's a rather long read (though I have sublinks built in at the top in the table of contents), and in places can get rather technical, but should provide a solid foundation for all DPS Sorcs (and Sages!) in 1.2.

For feedback or commentary on the article itself, please either PM me (here on the SWTOR-mechanics.com), or comment on the article itself. For any commentary on the content of the article, or further theorycrafting or questions on it, please use this thread on SWTOR-Mechanics.com*.

*By the way, for those confused, SWTOR-Mechanics.com is the new face of Sithwarrior.com. We felt the old name was putting some potential contributors off, as it sounded like it would be specific to only the warrior class, or at the least Empire-specific. Same site, different name, different look.

Updated again, corrected some wording and spelling mistakes. Also changed the link in the OP, since our mainpage link isn't returning the right formatting. Should look a lot better now. Edited by Daellia

Awesome stuff and very well detailed. Will be really good to point people to who are looking for specing help.

Is Shock really worth using for Hybrid? It does significantly less damage than Chain Lightning used to and costs roughly the same force. CL used to be a "maybe a few times per fight" ability.

Only use shock when you're moving out of fire, or some other mechanic in the raid prevents you from standing still and doing your normal rotation.

Going great, U.S. 4th, World 7th right now. Nice to see you're still in the theorycrafting biz :)

Nice job! And I'm not just in it, I'm a massive part of it for SWTOR. One of the devs on SWTOR-mechanics.com (what used to be sithwarrior.com), actually.

As Endorn said, Shock, while technically a DPS boost over FL, is sufficiently inefficient that it isn't really worth using for sustained dps. It's an excellent option for mobile dps, however. Also, like CL for 1.1.5 Hybrid, it's a good way to convert any Force that you would otherwise have left over at the end of the fight into a bit more extra damage.

One more bump for those with PvE dps questions.

Also a reminder that while the official DPS charts show Hybrids ahead by ~2-3% ahead, encounter mechanics can and do make a far more significant impact on how much damage a spec does. Due to the rather vastly differences in playstyle between the specs (well, ok, Hybrid is basically Madness with Barrage instead of CT, but you get the point), the optimal spec will likely be determined more by which is favored by encounter mechanics than the actual raw dps.

Also, if you like my compendium or found it helpful, please bump this thread so others can see it too (they yell at me if I do it too much myself).

If I were to spec to this build HERE how much of an issue would I have with force efficiency? I'm still in the old hybrid spec with 3/3 Electric Induction and am geared with a couple of PvE pieces to get the force discount on Force Lightning but now that I'm not instant casting Chain Lightning every time it's available I'm hoping I can drop Electric Induction all together.

I was initially drawn to the Hybrid spec because it was (and from what I can see still is) a viable build in both PvE and PvP and hope the new build with only War Hero gear (nice to have a goal) will work well enough in both environments.

1/12/28 (you really should remove Chain Lightning from your build, it's not too useful without an instacast method) has a perfectly force-neutral base rotation, even without Electric Induction. However, the only other place those points could really go with be Lightning Barrier for some additional survivability. That choice is up to the user, neither is really problematic. As long as you aren't spamming Static Barrier and you don't overuse expensive abilities like Shock or Force Storm, you should have no issues with sustainability with 1/12/28.
