hargrave Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 (edited) So to sum things up from what ive read here. 1. Were waiting on technology to solve faction imbalance (Is this some kind of a joke?) 2. Were concerned about faction imbalance but we dont adress it head on (waiting for technology) 3. People werent having fun (Reps) so were waiting on technology for it to be fun for them All you had to do was put pvp bases on other planets to thin out the fights. Instead your solution is to funnel everyone into warzones? Faction imbalance is due to rep side bieng lousy nothing more. 1. implement wookies/alien races 2. Revamping the jedi storylines would improve a lot of this there just god aweful 3. Makin rep side equal to dark side appeal. Heres the facts about ilum james 1.There was no tangible objective to capture. 2. It was a valors farmer paradise 3. The area couldnt handle more then 20vs20 (barely) 4. The people who werent having "fun" were the ones that were base camped 24/7 and had no where to go but to warzones. btw the people that were having "fun" were the guilds that were trade killing each other and the mass imps that got thier bm armor in a day at 1.1 The legacy system will not solve faction imbalance. Waiting on technology is the most idiotic excuse ive ever heard. You have a lot more open world pvp games coming that are a lot more appealing then swtor. You seem to think b/c it star wars people will magically flock back. Well for that to happen your going to have to make open world more appealing then those games and i dont see the level of proffesionalism and competency here to do that. What i see is a lot of hard working naive people who are relying on the star wars name while offering very little pvp wise. While meanwhile james here thinks he has the best pvp team but the majority of players cant even tab target and have to deal with hackers and exploiters afk'rs valor farmers. Then were told within the year maybe well have open pvp? Well why your waiting on technology the rest of the world will be doing open world pvp elsewhere and have moved on. DH:At the Guild Summit, Gabe stated that Ilum did not live up to the planet’s hope and that in 1.2, we’re sort of pivoting away from the Open World PvP. Can you share anything about the reboot of Ilum and Open World PvP? JO: Well Open World PvP, we know that there is a large portion of our fans that are very passionate about it, so it’s something we want to do. We want to make sure we do it right. One of the issues Ilum had was the faction imbalance population problem. So, if you were actually on a server where the faction imbalance wasn’t very bad, or was very close, Ilum was actually a lot of fun. But if you were on a server with faction imbalance, then Ilum wasn’t so much fun. The fact is, there were many people who weren’t having fun, even though there were a lot of people who were having fun. Of course, you never hear from the people who are having fun, because they are in the game having fun! But we want to make sure that everyone's having fun. So what we’re doing is we’re taking away the spotlight from Ilum. The rewards for going to Ilum are not going to be there. You can still go and do Ilum, but it’ll be more of...it’ll be similar to what we had on Tatooine. It’ll be more an opt-in "Hey, let’s have some fun PvP times." However, we do want to introduce competitive open world PvP that is an integral part of the game. So, we’re working on that. We are waiting on tech that is going to help us solve the faction imbalance problems and then we will reintroduce it hopefully sometime this year. Edited April 11, 2012 by hargrave
Redmarx Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 (edited) Teams of operatives are stunlocking people till they unsub. There are "underlying changes" in 1.2 so don't worry about class balance nerfs etc. We are working to reintroduce Ilum and open world PVP. 3/3 for lies. Edited April 11, 2012 by Redmarx
NilanVoid Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 Regarding Ilum...Remember the phrase "You will be blown away"? He used that over and over. How's the crow tasting Jimmy?
Sedi Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 Jedi storylines blow? Pure opinion my friend. And I don't know about your server, but there are some awesome reps on my server. Republic ftw.
hargrave Posted April 11, 2012 Author Posted April 11, 2012 why are you outnumbered then lol. Ill be fair and say more opinion i guess but compared to sith warrior they sure do lol. Jedi storylines blow? Pure opinion my friend. And I don't know about your server, but there are some awesome reps on my server. Republic ftw.
Azsariell Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 Agreed. Whoever is working in the PVP department on the dev team has no clue what they are doing. It's a shame I have continued to stick around, and another shame that I am waiting to see how 1.2 pans out. The only thing that is blown away is that there were 3 million subscribers at release to this game, now there are just over 1.5. I venture to say a majority of those people were pvpers who realized that this game had not lived up to its promises. I have a feeling 1.2 and future updates will not live up to its promises made by other members of the dev team. That is why I pre-ordered GW2 and will be waiting on them to live up to the pvp hype surrounding it. If the beta for GW2 looks promising well see that sub number fall even further.
hargrave Posted April 11, 2012 Author Posted April 11, 2012 i have a feeling in 6 months or sooner this game will f2p sadly. I ws having a hard time justifying paying for 2 accounts 2 months ago. Server merges/transfers should have been top priority over everything else instead legacy is a top priority? Who needs more alts?. I also pre order gw2 i dont know if it will be any better though i thought this was gonna be good to at lest gw2 no monthly fee. The thing i dont understand is how can james honestly think we have the best pvp team? I look at gw2 pvp footage and i look at tors and its sad. I see a lot of fluff and pr here and gw2 is just showing tons and tons of open world pvp and rvr and saying very little or promising much. Agreed. CrunkShizzle Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 (edited) I venture to say a majority of those people were pvpers who realized that this game had not lived up to its promises. and im sure those people will be leaving gw2 when it doesnt live up to its promises pro tip.arenanet didnt learn from sw tor, hype doesnt sell a game, quality content does Edited April 11, 2012 by CrunkShizzle
hargrave Posted April 11, 2012 Author Posted April 11, 2012 normally i would agree but i havent seen arenanet promise anything myself. Doesnt mean they havent. I dont know if gw2 will better or worse to be fair. I know its got open world pvp that im willing to try based on 200 plus videos of it i seen lol. Who knows either way werent not gonna get it here with these tools and im sure those people will be leaving gw2 when it doesnt live up to its promises pro tip.arenanet didnt learn from sw tor, hype doesnt sell a game, quality content does
Xeox Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 (edited) Take a look at ilum from last year. Bioware has great pr but lousy coders and or alpha testers who can't figure out problems Edited April 11, 2012 by Xeox
needalight Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 The easy fix has been there since 2008 when WoW introduced WG. Whichever side has lesser numbers was granted a buff called tenacity which scaled to the the ratio of both sides. Tenacity granted more health, damage, and healing by a %. Granted, tenacity wasn't as powerful as having larger numbers. In group v group engagements this was due to stuns and the GCD (The greater side could put out more in less time). None the less, it sure as hell made it closer to even.
Caeliux Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 The easy fix has been there since 2008 when WoW introduced WG. Sigh another WoW reference..
cashogy Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 Take a look at ilum from last year. Bioware has great pr but lousy coders and or alpha testers who can't figure out problems i wish i had a dime for every lie amatangelo tells in that video
ShadowOfVey Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 I hope "waiting on technology" means "we're working on making a new engine that doesn't suck" Which could be exactly what it means actually.
CrunkShizzle Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 Sigh another WoW reference.. especially when its being related to pvp anyone whos played an mmo with good pvp knows how much of a joke world of warcrafts pvp is
vimm Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 Jedi storylines blow? Pure opinion my friend. And I don't know about your server, but there are some awesome reps on my server. Republic ftw. Opinions are obviously facts.
Kalaesk Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 I hope "waiting on technology" means "we're working on making a new engine that doesn't suck" Which could be exactly what it means actually. Could also mean that they are trying to iron out the kinks in server transfers so that they can fix population issues with a few merges.
pogmahone Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 Take a look at ilum from last year. Bioware has great pr but lousy coders and or alpha testers who can't figure out problems By that video i can see that James and gabe are masters at being a spin doctor
pogmahone Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 I hope "waiting on technology" means "we're working on making a new engine that doesn't suck" Which could be exactly what it means actually. I hope so, the engine cant come close to supporting open pvp.
SweetNausea Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 I hope "waiting on technology" means "we're working on making a new engine that doesn't suck" ^ Wanna know why they're funneling people into WZ's? Their engine can't handle anything over 8v8 or 10v10.
Typheran Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 Gabe Amatangelo is like Baghdad Bob in this video. "There are no Americas with-in 100 miles of iraq!" "Players can fight on all those planets. 11 different planets" "When you have 200 people, 100 people going at it who's gonna win?" Lol... it's so sad it's funny.
looneybinjim Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 (edited) Sigh another WoW reference.. dont disregard it just because its a reference to Wow, the tenacity mechanic is a good one to help with faction imbalance. that said however, more than just faction imbalance needs to be addressed. the whole set up for ilum is just poor and really needs a better design. for myself, id go with a battle starting at intervals, with objectives to capture and hold, and a time limit, maybe attack and defend mechanics (ie one team attacks the other defends, depending on who won last game) yes this is also very Wow, but i LIKED playing those games. NDiggy Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 at the release of the game there were 2 million, and they still have something along the lines of 2 million Source? I'd be shocked if they still had 1 million subscribers. And if there are more than 50k people actively playing in NA I'd be equally shocked.
Xeox Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 I would say there is about 75k active ppl playing in NA due to the fact of 126 severs and average of 500 ppl per server a day, some like fatman have more, others have around 100 a day so 500 is generous i think. Come Thursday it will double for 1-2 weeks then be less than it is now due to the fact that ppl will see 1.2 is crap holds nothing, and go to TSW, GW2, Tera, D3 anything else, hell even MoP is coming soon.
