Weapontech vs. armormech on new alt for 1.2?

I'm thinking of making a Mercenary alt to rake in the legacy XP in 1.2 and then progress to make some chiss alts.

Would weapontech or armormech be the most useful for levelling purposes? I mean, weapontech only fills two slots while armormech fills more then twice that...

Or would a more allround approach with cybertech be preferable? I mean, the bounty hunter does get some pretty sweet orange shells.

Previously I've been pretty isolated in the biochem swamp on my main(s) so I dunno what's available, I would be happy for any input.

Also, do you get any cool looking armor for BH via crafting that is unavailable without it?

My Mercenary has armormech and it's pretty good. I think crafting armor for your characters is generally better than crafting weapons while you are leveling up, since it's cheaper to make armor and buy weapons than it is to make weapons and buy armor. IMHO. Edited by MorgonKara

A very good point, that still leaves cybertech to consider however... What are the benefits of picking armormech over cybertech?

I can guess that material costs will be higher with cybertech since you probably need to RE a lot of armorings, mods, etc. to reach contempory level stats on shells, but then you have to factor in spaceship parts, droid parts that you can sell, and the unique level 40 speeder that looks pretty awesome...

Tough choice...

If it's strictly to gear your own characters, level up armormech, make your armor, then ditch it and build up cybertech to fill the (hopefully) augmented orange shells you just finished making.

Yeah, but doing that will cut me off from any high level armor schematics they may release in the future...

I guess the best course of action is to make another alt with cybertech.

armormech is good for leveling up, especially when you can't afford those legacy armor, considering you will need 750k to get a full set, totally overpriced, but then again, you can buy them and send them to any character, over and over and over, so i guess, in the long run its worth it.

But Armormech, if its anything like Synthweaving, the crafted green gear seems better then the blue gear of the same level as you can get from the commendations vendor, i personally am not trying to get to purples, not until 1.2 goes live tomorrow, the RE chances are just too random to be viable right now.

The only downside to Armormech and any non-force user crafting skills is that there are 2 Grade 1 materials and sending your companions out to get them doesn't promise you one or the other, its just pure random if you can get them or not, though running around collecting them can net you them, but they are rare on the captial world.

I have a Gunslinger and now Sniper with armstech. Only thing I currently craft for myself are barrels RE'd to blue and offhands. Although at 50 I got some weapons for my comps. Veracity rifles/techblades.

Look at your companions bonus to crit and pick that way. For BH you best choice is Arms or Biochem based on companion stats. Pros for Arms: super cheap 340 missions for purple mats. On my sever they sell for ~1.5k. Pros for Biochem: Companion crit bonus for bioanalysis.

Dont use Armor for leveling as a reason to go Armormech, you get more than enough as quest rewards.

IA would be a good choice for Armormech along with slicing and UW.

Think on this as well. When you are trying to get your schematics by reverse engeineering you only have to do a couple of items for Arms but think on how many slots you need to work on with Armor. One of my guildies went through 80 blue items before getting a purple for a certain slot.

Take note though that things are getting better with RE come the patch because now you go from 4% up to 10%-20% and the tool tip will tell you your chances or if it is even possible.

I'm Armstech and the only thing that really bothers me is that you rarely (well I never have) see a schmatic for Arms drop in a FP. My pvp weapon is far superior to anything I can make right at this time. (subject to change with patch)

Long story short, You'll spend less money on Arms than you will Armor and the beneifts are up to you.
