ValaxDarkseer
For a game which encourages playing alts the fact that this game has two hard factions which cant socialize only hurts the game. For example, Class stories makeup like 5%-10% of the entire leveling process. The rest is repeating the same awful side quests or playing huttball 1000 times. This problem can be helped by leveling alts on the opposite faction of your main but theres one HUGE problem with this.........your new alt cant join your current guild! So why waste my time leveling an alt thats on the Repub side when my guild is Empire? Of course some people will go but omgz we needed hard faction for teh story and you cant mix empire with repub in 1 guild cuz the lore guy! This excuse might have flown before they allowed things like Pureblood Sith Jedis and force wielding Bounty Hunters. Hard factions add NOTHING to this game and only discourage people from rolling alts on the opposite faction their guild resides. But Bioware simply had to have 2 hard factions cuz u know. WoW did it. OmegaMayhem
Or, you can do what our guild did and make a Republic guild for our Pub alts.
FlippinFlapJack
Good post. I just started my Sith warrior and I can't even send mail to a buddy on the other side. It would be nice even if the two factions could interact on a limited biases
EnsignSorrow
Are you suggesting that they make millions of dollars worth of changes to the game, and the mechanics so that you can play the other faction and still be in your guild, which is the same classes, just with new animations, and skins? Cause, if that is what you are suggesting: I suggest a reality check.
livnthedream
Good post. I just started my Sith warrior and I can't even send mail to a buddy on the other side. It would be nice even if the two factions could interact on a limited biases no to faction interaction. they are adding cross faction mailing to your legacy. i would be able to endorse cross faction guild chat with some kind of alliance type system. @op 2 factions is very star wars anyway. i really doubt "because wow did" was a major part of the reasoning. VanorDM
But Bioware simply had to have 2 hard factions cuz u know. WoW did it. Yeah because the idea of two factions at war with each other is something that has never, ever, ever happened in any of the Star Wars lore before... It's something completely made up by Bioware so they could copy WoW....
Cerion
I've seen some pretty awful suggestions on this site, but this is one of the worst. Star Wars is all about FACTION. It's the core idea around which SWTOR is designed. It's not simply a lore consideration..it's a fundamental mechanics decision. You want to chat with your guild? I hear Vent has a program...or any number of voice chats that guilds ALREADY use. But you're not going to be grouping your Sith Sorcerer with my Jedi Knight. Period. Cause, if that is what you are suggesting: I suggest a reality check. He's not suggesting that, that'd be silly. Instead, just build a time machine, and go back and change it during the design process to have never existed in the first place! Simple! Derp! HeavensAgent
Another "stop the game and rebuild it with a different focus" idea. The original poster actually believe this is even an option? Because it's not.

If anything Blizzard got the idea of two factions from Star Wars since it has had such a big influence on pop culture. They invented the wheel, were the first to create mechanized printing, and they created the first ever man bra to keep Moobs in check.
EnsignSorrow
Actually, the first WarCraft game was a WarHammer game that didn't get approved, and so Blizzard established WarCraft. True story. Second, World of Warcraft was originally based on EverQuest. If you ask anyone who played PC games back then they would likely have played either Diablo II, or EverQuest (personally I played Diablo II). WoW was designed to appeal to both EQ, and Diablo II players. As well as being the "MMO for every man". So, let's no go there.

If anyone here has a beef with the hard factions, go cry to George Lucas about it. Edited April 10, 2012 by Darth_Moonshadow
ValaxDarkseer
Seems the only reason people have for hard factions are "WoW did it", "They are at war!" and "Shutup guy u r teh stupid!" Again. Lore doesnt matter. Bioware threw out the lore once they allowed people to roll Pure Blood Sith Jedi and force wielding smugglers. You people seriously gonna tell me that in a war you have ZERO communication and socialization between two sides? Again hard factions dont bring anything good to the game. It just artificially seperates the playerbase under the guise of "lore" which no longer matters in this game.
VanorDM
Bioware threw out the lore once they allowed people to roll Pure Blood Sith Jedi and force wielding smugglers. Nothing in that is at all lore breaking. If you actually knew anything at all about the lore you'd know that. For example the is already a Pure Blood Sith Jedi in the game right now. You people seriously gonna tell me that in a war you have ZERO communication and socialization between two sides? Pretty much. I'm quite sure that the Allies had zero contact with the Axis in WWII other then to spy on each other. And again, you clearly don't have any clue about EU lore, so trying to make an argument based on it, simply makes your argument look even weaker then it already is. Tried to read your OP again and I'm changing my mind slightly... You aren't just clueless about the Lore, you're just clueless in general.
