Crosswinder Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 (edited) HI people. I have such a system: MB with LGA775 CPU slot, Core 2 Duo E7300 2,66Ghz, 6Gb RAM, Video GT460. I have 30-50 stable fps on planets and 17-20 on warzones. What do you think uf I will buy one of a top LGA 775 CPUs? Intel Core 2 Quad Q9300 2.50GHz or Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 3.00GHz. And what CPU is better for SWTOR? Edited April 9, 2012 by Crosswinder
Orizuru Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 (edited) Upgrading your CPU to a faster LGA775 won't really increase anything for you. You would do better to save your money and work on upgrading to a Sandy Bridge cpu/motherboard in my opinion. EDIT: I should also mention that a Sandy Bridge won't necessarily be a huge increase in performance either. It's all about the video card really. I have two computers at home. One is an E8500 Core 2 Duo with a single GTX 260 video card and the other is a brand new i7 2600k with 2 GTX 560 Ti video cards. If I drop down to a single 560 on the new pc, the game runs about the same on both rigs. The newer pc does run it better, but the difference is only about 20%, whereas the SLI configuration increases performance dramatically. Edited April 9, 2012 by Orizuru

And what CPU is better for SWTOR? I had a Q6600 Intel quad @ 2.4 GHZ, I have Nvidia 460 GTX, 4GB ram DDR2 667mhz. I was getting 50 - 60 fps on planets with everything full, shadows off. 15 - 25 fps in warzones/raids. I just upgraded to a new Asus P8Z68-VLX Mainboard and i5 2500k and 8 GB DDR3 1333mhz. I can say i saw a huge improvement. i now get 30 - 60 fps in warzones (average about 40) with shadows on! I dont know about the 460 GT, i have 460 GTX which is over a year old but fine for this game on full settings. Get a new CPU and Mainboard. Best way if you can manage.
Stoicraven Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 yeah i have a Wolfendale 775 chip, still has issues but overall the experience isn't horrid. I'm just gonna build a new PC.
Nangasaur Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 Video Card, RAM, Motherboard, SSD, CPU. In that order, IMO.

And what CPU is better for SWTOR? I had the same CPU and think video card (I have a 460 GTX). I replaced the Board/CPU with an overclocked I5 sandy and bought another 460 GTX (To SLI). Everything's maxed and I have forced AA on for x16. Consistently at 60 frames. (Just be aware these 460's can get hot ) Do what one of the other posters mentioned and save up for an I5 or I7. You will be much happier in the long-run and will get outstanding performance! Best of luck! Edited April 9, 2012 by ShadowFated

Nangasaur Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 For this engine id say more like...... CPU, Video Card, Ram, SSD, Mainboard Not really. A cheap dual-core processor is all that's needed after you've got the rest up to par. People think they need to spend too much money on the CPU, when the engine doesn't even support higher end CPUs. Nothing more than a $150-200 CPU is really necessary. However, there's a tremendous difference in this game between a $150 video card and a $300-400 video card. It doesn't matter how fast your CPU is, if your video card can't handle the data being sent to it, it'll bottleneck your entire performance.
