U/I Request - Simple Macro Buttons?

Forgive me if this is in the wrong area, or has already been copiously requested;

What I want most, right now, is simple macro buttons. What I mean is simply the ability to turn one button slot into two buttons; IE, if I click / press 1, I get one ability- If I hold a modifier key (shift, ctrl, alt), it displays (and uses if clicked or pressed) a different ability.

Has there been any word on anything like this / Does this already exist? It'd be a huge help to me; My assassin feels like he has so many tools which are useful that I get lost in where they are on my quickbars.

They have hinted at some potential macros for things like mouse over heals, but have generally taken a 'macros are bad' stance and haven't announced anything specific.

Which is really ironic considering they have licensed the SWTOR name for co-branded peripherals that effectively allow all kinds of abilities to be macro'd onto one button.

So it seem to me, unless you are willing to shell out the cash for the hardware option, don't expect much from Bioware.

Dang.

And idea whether it would be against the EULA or ToS to use a third part program to replicate this?

I'm just really not used to using keys beyond 1-= to bind my abilities. If that's what I have to do, then fine; I just dun wanna.

MACROS ARE BAD AND RUIN GAMEPLAY

*unless you have the 250$ Star Wars: The Old Republic keyboard

Breaking new software to make macro not in game are FOR FREE... dont need 250$ you need to use the brain (not to push the buttons smashing ur head very hard against the keyboard)

on a seriouse note i wouldnt mind if they give up a social skill that actually write in the OP channel a pre-written frase

dont need to wosh is clearly against the rule and I hate when people obey the rule just because they don't know any better and if they new it was free they would break the rule

macro are against rule right now so free or 250$ is not the point

I only wish they could give use social skill to macro some text in ops channel or any channel we want.

Well, you can bind 1-= on the first row of quickslots, then bind ctrl1 - ctrl = on a second set of quickslots.

Which gives you the same functionality as long as you use the keybinds. Just not an update to visuals.

'Course, I happen to think that even complex macros are perfectly fine. Simple "priority queue" ones should be practically mandatory feature in MMO's, (IMO). Free you up for actual reactive thought using key presses, as opposed to just cycling an attack pattern.

No, actually, they aren't. According to the rules of conduct they're only illegal if they accelerate the speed at which you gain exp/loot/etc. (i.e. presumably a bot macro or somesuch)

Well, actually, that raises a point; According to that wording, any macro that causes me to play 'better', even if it's just something I view as for convenience, causes me to gain xp/loot faster (assuming it actually works better for me)- Thus, such is illegal?

According to that poorly worded ToS / EULA rule, third party items (programmable keyboards) should also fall under that rule?

.. Wut?

I'd love for my mouse to work properly, but I don't see that happening soon, as I was specifically told from them via an email that they don't support the mouse. /shrug

Sure hope you get what you are looking for, though. :(

No, any macro that constitutes automated play as in the player fires the macro and multiple abilities fire in sequence without any further input from the player. For example, if I create a macro that does this < casts Ravage, executes a 3.0s delay, casts Battering Assault, executes a 1.5s delay, casts Vicious Slash> that would be against the rules.

There was a post by someone from Bioware that clarified this somewhat.
