ShaneAR
Hey, folks. I'm currently leveling a Jedi Sentinel (lvl 15), but I'm new to the game and MMOs. So, a couple questions if you don't mind. Combat: Well, I see you quickly gain a confusing amount of abilities. Is there a "core" set that will handle most situations? Or, is it just a matter of personal "style" and preference? Without sticking to a core set, I see myself becoming overwhelmed and confused during battle. Still with combat: Is the "auto target" bugged? It never seems to move to the next target, I need to do that myself. Crew Skills: I've just started to send T-7 out on gathering missions, but he comes back with loot with a total value that is less than the mission cost. Is this due to my low level or some stat progression that I've ignored? Upgrading Companion's Gear: So, I just picked up Kira as a companion. As I wear medium armor and she's light, it appears that the only way I can upgrade her is to purchase gear or get it from quests. Is that correct? I was hoping (and expecting) that she'd be able to wear my used gear as I upgraded, so I guess that's the reason for this (probably stupid) question. Companions In Combat: So far, I've just been letting them "do their thing" with little input from me. Should I be taking a more active role? Anyway, sorry for all the questions. Thanks. Owsley
For information about combat rotations and how to play a Sentinel there are guides in the class subforums http://www.swtor.com/community/forumdisplay.php?f=15 http://www.swtor.com/community/forumdisplay.php?f=33 Upgrading Companion's Gear: You buy it, get it as loot, or you can craft it with the proper skills Companions In Combat: In general that's correct but you want to make sure that you select the proper stance. For example, if you are a tank and your compaion is also in tank mode he may pull more aggro so you want to adjust that. Same goes for those compainons that are squishy. Depending on what your main is you may want your compaion to tank or range DPS. All depends on what you and your companion's skill sets are. Crew Skills: Sounds like you are slicing. After rollout, slicing was nerfed so it wasn't the gold mine it use to be. Not all slicing missions return positive results, just as other gathering missions can return crap. The type of mission yield determines what loot pool you draw from. Moderate yield almost always cost you money. Also the difficulty has a bearing. This is based on your skill level and yield and determines how many skill points you recieve. Orange colored missions yield the most skill points but have a high chance of failure while grey missions give no points but always succeed. The quality of the loot is determined at random but if you "critical hit" the mission, the loot will be better. You will notice that certain companions has a crit +2 or +5 for certain skills. This increases the odds that you will get better results. Compainon affection level also influences the result. ShaneAR
Awesome. Thanks, Owsley. I'll have a look through those links. Thanks for the explanations!
VanorDM
Visiting the class forms is a great way to get some good details on how to play your class. So I'd recommend checking out the links mentioned above. However those are often intended to be for lvl 50 people and can be a bit confusing. So as a general rule, yes there's going to be a core set of skills you tend to use over and over again. As a Jedi Sent, you'll be using skills that build focus quite a bit, and it's a good idea to group them together on your ability bar so you can have easy access to them. You also have force leap and force sweep, both of which you'll likely want to start every fight with. After that you want to figure what does the best DPS and go from there.
