Joonbeams Posted April 6, 2012 Posted April 6, 2012 In addition to the shorter times, does efficiency bring higher yields (i.e. better yield/mission)? Sorry if this has been asked/answered elsewhere but I can't find it.
Mythbusting Posted April 6, 2012 Posted April 6, 2012 No. A +efficiency bonus does not grant increased mission yields via an increased crit rate. I've recorded just over 200 slicing missions with Mako - whose +15 efficiency bonus nevertheless resulted in a crit rate indistinguishable from my other companions. That said, if the magnitude of the bonus is relatively small (<5%), that really isn't enough data to sort out the difference.

Sorry if this has been asked/answered elsewhere but I can't find it. Companion Loyalty & +Efficiency lower the time for crew skill tasks to be done. For a greater chance to crit & thus gain either more items or an augment slot on a armor/weapon/offhand item you need to look for companions with +Critical
Chadnab Posted April 6, 2012 Posted April 6, 2012 (edited) A higher affection with your companion also shortens the time it takes for the mission and raises your companions chance to crit on a mission. It says this on one of the loading screens. Once I maxed out all of my companions affection, I also noticed significantly more crits on the regular abundant and rich gathering missions. Joonbeams Posted April 6, 2012 Author Posted April 6, 2012 I understand the crit bonuses, and the impact of affection on enhancing efficiency bonus (and maybe crit too?). But BW has never been clear as to what efficiency really is or why we should care. Certainly for crafting it's shorter time. And same for missions. That's not all that helpful. What I suspect is the intent (even if not implemented properly) is that efficiency should boost yield (e.g. 10 eralam crystals vs. 8). It also seems that efficiency should (or was intended to) lower production costs (e.g. 5% fewer materials needed to craft the same item when you have +5 efficiency). Crit, I would think, would be an extra chance at either scoring an additional material, schematic, etc. or at crafting an additional item and/or item with augment slot. Tangentially, this affects efficiency if you crit, but not really if averaged over time. If efficiency is just quicker mission completion, it's hardly a bonus worth fretting about (sure I can make a stretch argument that it matters, but really, it doesn't).
