Mrmaan Posted March 31, 2012 Posted March 31, 2012 A little question about it. Do u ever use it, like a filler or for some DMG or do u use riffleshot insteed ??
Big_Swifty Posted March 31, 2012 Posted March 31, 2012 Not often, but I do use it (in PvP). I generally have Surgical Strikes (+4% dmg) and Cut Down (+6% dmg). Even then, I only use it if I am out of options. Most things on CD, including your interrupt, and the guy with 800hp left is trying to get a heal off? Overload = Dead, while rifle shot might not do it (although Frag Gernade will still probably do more dmg than Overload Shot). Even if the guy has 1600hp left and he is going all out with his CDs to try to finish you off - if your skills are on CD, then Overload Shot x2. What else are you going to do? It happens, but not all that often. In PvE I suspect the same idea: some trash mob that was being off-tanked is almost dead. Whether you attack or not, your group will kill it in the next 1.5 seconds, but you can't close the gap in that time. You are a Good Operative (you know - the damage type that loves to pad the damage meters in other games) and know that you need to make your Overall Damage look good, or you might not get invited to the group again. So, Overload Shot. Get the little bit of damage. Why not? You might even get a TA out of it! Srsly though, I rarely use it, and I understand that most Operatives don't even have it in their easily accessible toolbar slots.
AnEvilBus Posted March 31, 2012 Posted March 31, 2012 once in a bluemoon, when i have no other option, and i have a lot of energy
Kaijan Posted March 31, 2012 Posted March 31, 2012 I use it when assassins use their shroud. There are a few other cases, but that's the most useful that comes to mind.
Battilea Posted March 31, 2012 Posted March 31, 2012 Generally, I'll drop into cover mode and use snipe instead, if I have energy to burn. Slightly more energy, considerably more damage.

JidaiGeki Posted April 1, 2012 Posted April 1, 2012 It's nice for bursting down weakened enemies as a lethality Op. I probably wouldn't use it for conceal or pure heals though. Its greatest advantage comes from the fact that it has no CD except global and is instant, so you can spam it as long as your energy holds whilst running circles around your opponent.
Battilea Posted April 1, 2012 Posted April 1, 2012 if you get hit you'd miss the GCD? Normally don't have aggro, so not an issue. Besides, the damage gap between the two is large enough that I'd have to lose quite a bit and using either one drains energy, so taking a bit longer to snipe doesn't really change much. I really wish they'd either up the range to 30 or else turn it into a melee attack that does more damage than it does currently.
LilTsar Posted April 1, 2012 Posted April 1, 2012 i'm forced to use the smuggler mirror move during fights when i have energy to burn and my scrapper/conealment bread and butter moves are on cd, im just out of range or something. although it has a satisfying pistol sound, i feel like every timei use it is somehow a failure, b/c it really is just a very generic attack, its like spamming flurry. my only problem with the upcoming 1.2 changes is that the added cd to the back attacker ability will mean ill be using this more and more in lieu of a more variable, explorative rotation, something already lacking in the spec. or more likely less and less as ill just spec back to heals and enjoy that buff while it lasts.
Rapto Posted April 2, 2012 Posted April 2, 2012 PvP - Force cloaked/Shrouded Shadow/sin to keep some dmg on them during the immunity - Finishing off a target on the run when they are very low HP while moving onto your next target if frag grenade is on CD. PvE - Everything on CD and don't have 2 TAs to lacerate and about to cap your energy use it as a quick dump while waiting for other abilities. Rifle shot will generally always be a better option unless you will hit the 100 energy cap. - Being lazy on trash and to look like you're doing something so your energy moves.
