Superninfreak Posted March 30, 2012 Posted March 30, 2012 (edited) Most advanced classes can heal/tank or DPS, but those advanced classes can only do DPS. Is there enough incentive to do those classes to compensate for the lack of versatility? Edited March 30, 2012 by Superninfreak
Tommot Posted March 30, 2012 Posted March 30, 2012 Yes, due to increased versatility within the DPS role.
ViperI Posted March 30, 2012 Posted March 30, 2012 You play those classes for a different style of play. Playing a Sentinel is completely different than playing a DPS specced Guardian. However, if you're just going to compare base dps figures, no, there probably isn't a compelling reason to play one over the other.
xdvesper Posted March 30, 2012 Posted March 30, 2012 both snipers and marauders get the -20% healing debuff that makes it harder to heal the target you're attacking... that's about the only unique thing they get in return for not being able to play two roles.
hadoken Posted March 30, 2012 Posted March 30, 2012 Marauders are one of the strongest classes in the game in pvp. They also bring very high dps and excellent group buffs to the table.
Caelrie Posted March 30, 2012 Posted March 30, 2012 (edited) Neither of those class pairs lack versatility. both snipers and marauders get the -20% healing debuff that makes it harder to heal the target you're attacking... that's about the only unique thing they get in return for not being able to play two roles. They get 3 different DPS trees, which no other classes get. Edited March 30, 2012 by Caelrie
Smuglebunny Posted March 30, 2012 Posted March 30, 2012 I had a rage jugg, I got bored and didnt like the constant meaness of all the DS decisions. I rolled a Watchman Sentinel. SO much fun. Tears through everything like tissue paper. But you have to be paying attention and using your defensive cooldowns or you die. Its an "active class". You cant sit back, you are in the thick at all times pressing buttons at all times. I was bored with the game and ready to quit, sentinel was my cure. Also 2 lightsabers is visualy impressive.
NoTomorrow Posted March 30, 2012 Posted March 30, 2012 What i like about sniper, is that they made them the skill trees quite different from each other. And even more, each of them has its own uses.
Faolon Posted March 30, 2012 Posted March 30, 2012 Sentinels and Marauders are going to be buffed soon. Right now, any player that knows what they're doing can dominate in both PvE and PvP settings as either of those two classes. With that coming buff, people who are good with those classes are going to be near god-like.
jbuschell Posted March 30, 2012 Posted March 30, 2012 If you master the class and can get used to the cover system then slinger/sniper is awesome and fun to play with 3 distinct styles of play
Technohic Posted March 30, 2012 Posted March 30, 2012 Just like others said, you have to enjoy the play style on either of the classes and if you do, they are a lot of fun. Just know that you can be quite good, or REALLY bad when it comes to PvP. As a sniper specifically, if other teams want to take you out of a warzone, they can, but if you are good, you can really make it waste their time and do some damage while they try and the rest of your team is busy winning.

Is there enough incentive to do those classes to compensate for the lack of versatility? As a Mara you can eat alive any class that comes at you. I think that is enough reason to roll one.
