suduire Posted March 29, 2012 Posted March 29, 2012 Right now, FPs are severely underutilized. The reason is because there is no comparative benefit to running them. First while leveling, • Experience gain is minimal and horrible compared to other activities. The daily mission helps, but it is still easier to level via solo guest on planets, PVP, space missions, and even just soloing heroics. • Gear is quickly out leveled • No monetary incentive compared to other activities Hard Modes • Once a player gets full columi, which can be achieved much faster doing a few raids then instances, there is no benefit to running more FPs. The columni commendations are pretty much useless and you still can earn them faster by raiding. The gear drops are just vendor trash. • A player can earn more credits by doing the dailies at his or her convenience. Plus they get daily commendations which are useful to everyone and continue to be useful to everyone because of the rakata pieces bought with them can be traded to alts and other players. • Because most geared people are running dailies or pvp that have useful and competitive benefits, the pool of people willing to run FPs are the newly minted 50s without gear and knowledge of the fights, making FPs more tedious. This has a negative feedback loop on willingness to group with PUGS and in turn reduces the amount of FPs run. Solution • Add rare drops for unique high end gear. I played EQ2 for many years and people repeatedly ran instances because they wanted to get the rare drop that in many instances was superior to even the top end raid gear. • Add more credits to the FP mobs. • Add the chance for Rakata level schematics to drop TL;DNR: There is no comparative advantage to FPs. In every aspect FPs are trumped by other activities for achieving gear, experience, and credits. Like water, player will find the path of least resistance for achieving their goals.

It teaches you how to play your charcter with a group PRIOR to getting to an OPERATION. FPs teach group dynamics, tactics, AND boss mechanics. There are people in this game that are new. As in FIRST EVA MMORPG. FPs help new people l2p so OTHERS don't yell at them to l2p all the time. SWTOR really excels at teaching someone to play their class/role compared to other games. SWTOR forces you to learn to use ALL of your abilities AS YOU LEVEL unlike <insert MMORPG here (but I am speaking about WoW and you know it)>. Other MMOs let you face roll until you get to max level and then it becomes a RUDE awakening for some players that they really don't know how to play their class/roll when it comes to end game content. TL;DR: FPs are FINE as they are. They are usefull to teach people how to play their class/role prior to taking on responsibilities in Operations.

Or do Heroics prepare you for Flashpoints?

Yes, Fps can teach boss mechanics, but that only attracts and is useful for the newly minted 50s. They are not useful to rerun numerous times. Your statement only strengthens my argument. Because they have to teach new 50s the mechanics, FPs are tedious to run for experienced and geared players. This fact will lead to less experienced people wanting to run FPs and diminishes the talent pool running FPs. Arguably, this makes FPs less enjoyable and diminishes benefits. There is virtually no reason to repeatedly run FPs. If there was legitimate reason to run FPs, more experienced players will run them and that will benefit all. Newer players will learn the mechanics and how to work as a team from experienced players who continue to run FPs, and everyone would gain from an increased benefits.

VanorDM Posted March 29, 2012 Posted March 29, 2012 Gear is quickly out leveled I'm not going to get into a XP/hour or Credit/hour debate because those are frankly silly things to debate. FP's are fun to do, and offer at least roughly the same amount of XP and credits as you'd get if you were doing something else with a group that size. However there is a number of orange items you can only get by doing FP's, so this one point is actually not at all true. FP's is one of the better sources of orange gear, which you will never out level when 1.2 comes out.

I am not saying FPs are not fun to do, but repeatedly they get quite dull after the third or 4th time through. Orange gear still needs mods every few levels and the fastest way to get mods is through planet commendations and bonus series quest. Once 1.2 comes out yes, orange gear will be useful for 50s, as appearnce gear. And its much easier and efficent to farm the orange gear once 50. Edited March 29, 2012 by suduire
VanorDM Posted March 29, 2012 Posted March 29, 2012 I am not saying FPs are not fun to do, but repeatedly they get quite dull after the third or 4th time through. Pretty much anything will get dull if you do it often enough. So yes FP's can get dull after the 3rd or 4th run. But I don't believe they were actually meant to be run more then once, at least not the normal mode ones.
