Hello everyone! Level 11 gunslinger here. So far, the hard hitting turret I was looking for is a blast! Just need some advice for PvP.

So far, I haven't had a problem 1v1ing. It actually usually swings in my favor even against higher level classes. I stomp sorcs like its not even funny and I've killed several solo assassins/mercs. However, in group play I get crushed! I'll get jumped on by a marauder and Jug and while I'm getting choked, I'll get a saber in the back from shadows. I can't sit on the cat walks in Huttball because the ball carrier just force jumps to me and I hurt the team. :(

So, any advice on positioning in Huttball? Alderaan and Voidstar have been fine so far.

It sounds like you have a problem with situational awareness. for one thing, if you are getting jumped on while on the catwalk, that means you weren't in cover when the ball carrier with in range. That was your fault. You need to know where the ball carrier is at all times.

it just comes with practice. By the time you hit 50, you will understand how to position yourself.

Can SWs not leap to anyone in cover? What If I have my shield up vs. Behind sandbags?

Also, The whole rolling into cover from a mile away. It gets very frustrating, often pulling me too close to the action or pulling me into AoEs in PvE. Any tips on how to prevent this?

At around level 20 I stopped rolling into cover entirely. I exclusively use the shield. I suggest binding the crouch to a mouse button, or an accessible key and just use the portable shield.

Yes, especially in Huttball, you need to be in cover as much as possible.

Whether that is "Portable Cover" or "rolling into natural cover," they can't charge to you or jump to you. By default, F is bound to roll into cover, or crouch into Portable Cover if there isn't somewhere to roll. Shift+F is bound to Portable Cover, which I actually do a lot more often. It allows you to completely control your positioning.

And when it is you vs a group, if they are focusing-firing you, you are going to die. Period. There isn't that much any class can do against being focused. What you can do to mitigate the number of times this happens, however, is to position yourself so you are on the fringe of people's awareness.

For example, the railings on the middle turret of Alderaan Civil War. Don't put down cover next to the turret, put it above and out of the way, on the railing.

In Voidstar, don't sit right next to the door, stand over to the side, where you can see the door and the approach, and where people don't immediately see you when they charge up to the door. You have a 35m range on Flurry of Bolts, and that is all it takes to keep them from Planting the Bomb.

In Huttball, I actually like to sit near the ballpost in the middle, and then I use Hunker Down right before the ball pops up, then I grab it and pass up to the catwalk to a team mate. Gunslingers can kill most people who are solo in the middle, and we can hold it until we score, then we immediately get the ball again. Since we have the anti-CC skill, we can quickly grab it without being CC'd right before it. Alternately, we also have full range of combat when the other team kills our ball carrier, and we can start damaging the enemy ball carrier no matter which way he takes pretty much, the exception being around the side and down into the pit. If he attempts to get on the catwalks at all, we can shoot him.

I hope this helps!

Whoa, you can grab the ball when Hunkered? Never tried that. Mostly try to stay above.

do note though that 1.2 kills anyone standing(or sitting, or crouching) next to the ball when it spawns.

I don't think it's next to, but people standing ON the spawn pedestal itself. It's to prevent people from sitting in there and being untargetable while grabbing the ball.
