lordhelmos Posted March 28, 2012 Posted March 28, 2012 (edited) This has always confused me. The only companion or characters in the game that are capable of using an electrostaff effectively are Kira Carsen and Nadia Grell. The Electrostaff is a willpower attributed double handed weapon that is only available to Jedi Shadows. They are roughly equal to doublesabers. However, most shadow abilities (which includes force breach, which is a requirement in all shadow rotations) require the double-sided saber weapon type in order to use. This makes electrostaves a completely useless weapon that only 2 companions can use. Those two companions also have strong doublesaber options, which are a more common weapon type and are relatively easy to find. This perplexes me because although there are no moddable Techblades or Techstaves, there are a variety of moddable electrostaves and high-end ones like the Warstaff of the Mandalorian Champion that drops from the second to last boss in the False Emperor and is equal to a 128 dps grade weapon (Tier 1). This is an entire weapon category that is just about useless to everyone in the game and the 2 companions that can use the electrostaff have common doublesaber options that make better choices and are a dime-a-dozen. Just wondering why the electrostaff category even exists when other companions like Qyzen and Akaavi Spaar, who use techblades/staves have no endgame weapon options at all. Generally we have a 100% useless weapon category that absolutely no one can use. Perhaps maybe if doublesaber restrictions were removed from shadow abilities the could see some use. I'm just wondering what the purpose of this entire weapon type is. Edited March 28, 2012 by lordhelmos
grania Posted March 28, 2012 Posted March 28, 2012 Perhaps maybe if doublesaber restrictions were removed from shadow abilities the could see some use. Or changed from requiring a double-bladed lightsaber to simply any two-handed weapon maybe
CutlassJack Posted March 28, 2012 Posted March 28, 2012 (edited) This has always confused me. The only companion or characters in the game that are capable of using an electrostaff effectively are Kira Carsen and Nadia Grell. Also Vector Hyllis. Who's the only one who can't use a double bladed saber. But at least orange options for techstaff/techblade users will open up 1.2 I never understood why Sages/Sins couldn't use all their abilities with elecrostaves anyway. Knights don't suffer from a similar limitation with vibroblades, after all. If there needs to be any change its removal of that penalty. Edited March 28, 2012 by CutlassJack
da_krall Posted March 28, 2012 Posted March 28, 2012 (edited) Bascially; Team A made the Weapons Team B made the Armour Team C made the classes Team D made the compainions. Team E/F/G/H/I/J/K/L/M/N/O/P made PvE zones/quests Team P made PvP when it had spare time Team Q made FP and Ops Spending 200M on a game means lots of teams, lots of outsourcing, lots of things to coordinate. They just seemed to have failed on the coordination. No team every talked to each other. This explains alot of the game Edited March 28, 2012 by da_krall
lordhelmos Posted March 28, 2012 Author Posted March 28, 2012 (edited) The electrostaves are will based tho, and there are no "aim" hilts for the majority of the companions that use them. Almost all the companions that use those weapons are aim based, Vector is the only exception. Vector must feel pretty special that he has an entire weapon type dedicated to him, including a 128 grade version that drops for false emp. Edited March 28, 2012 by lordhelmos

Hitomo_x Posted April 23, 2012 Posted April 23, 2012 electro stuff is the equivalent to double-bladed lightsabers like vibro-swords for normal lightsabers ... basicly for characters that are not jedi and therfore cant use light-based weapons
Kolreth Posted April 23, 2012 Posted April 23, 2012 I got an electrostaff on my 50 shadow tank, and all abilities that require a double bladed lightsaber can use an electrostaff as well. But it sucks that they just look like double headed clubs, rather than crackling with electricity.
GhoXen Posted April 23, 2012 Posted April 23, 2012 However, most shadow abilities require the double-sided saber weapon type in order to use. I feel that may not be intended, or at least it will be changed in the future. For Sith Marauders, we can use all our abilities perfectly fine wielding dual Vibroswords, and they look absolutely awesome.
achwas Posted April 23, 2012 Posted April 23, 2012 This perplexes me because although there are no moddable Techblades or Techstaves, there are a variety of moddable electrostaves and high-end ones like the Warstaff of the Mandalorian Champion that drops from the second to last boss in the False Emperor and is equal to a 128 dps grade weapon (Tier 1). Custom-made techblade was implemented in patch 1.2 (Qyzen says "?%&@°§§&/"&" = *** ? really ? Thank you !" ). Methinks Custom made techblades as well. But overall, looking at elctrostaves, they seem like a remnant from some dead-branch development idea in Beta. Mostly Stlye (i blame the Bodyguard droids of General Grievous )
Havokk Posted April 23, 2012 Posted April 23, 2012 The electrostaves are will based tho, and there are no "aim" hilts for the majority of the companions that use them. I think you may be confusing two weapon types. Electrostaffs are WILL based weapons, used by Naadia Grell, Kira Carsen, Vector, Xalek and Jaesa Wilsaam - all of whom have Will as their primary stat. All except Vector can also use a double-bladed lighsaber Jedi Shadows and Sith Assassins can also use electrostaffs but to do so is pointless because most of theur class abilities require a double-bladed lighsaber. Techstaffs are AIM based weapons, used by Scorpio,Toriam Cadera, Yuun and Akaavi Spar - all of whom have Aim as their primary stat. All can also juse techblades. Qyzen Fess, Tanno Vik and Skadge can only use Techblades. Techstaffs and techblades have been an issue because for a long time there were few moddable versions and no Aim hilts to mod them with anyway.
Stugotz Posted April 23, 2012 Posted April 23, 2012 Yeah, it has always been a mess. ~shrug~ What a simple thing for game developers to screw up.
theeliteninja Posted April 25, 2012 Posted April 25, 2012 I want to be able to use these with all my attacks that require doublebladed sabers. Vibroswords can be used with other classes, so we should have the option to use Elecrostaves.
