MonkeyManRaygun Posted March 26, 2012 Posted March 26, 2012 (edited) I really want to see some real reasoning on this. I have been playing a Combat tree Sentinel from the get go and have seen absolutely no problems. I tend to get top damage out of all Knight and Warrior classes quite easily and always get between 4-7 medals per game. I don't know for sure if my damage would be astronomically higher or not as a Watchman, but I kinda doubt it. Is this just because I know how to play the class properly or am I just somehow better than everyone with a worse class? Opinions pls Edited March 26, 2012 by MonkeyManRaygun
MonkeyManRaygun Posted March 26, 2012 Author Posted March 26, 2012 Well perhaps not broken but just inferior in every way to watchman. Which I do not agree with
theangryllama Posted March 26, 2012 Posted March 26, 2012 Because your damage is only decent 6s out of 15. Learn the animation for precision slash, stun/knockback/root etc when its cast and laugh. You are 100% melee yet can be kited by a good player (where as watchman gets no min range charge on 3s less cooldown) and focuses on DoTs so is damaging even when not in range. Master Strike is currently interruptable (granted fixed in 1.2) so no damage gain from there against anyone with a brain. Lacks watchmans self healing capabilities. Ataru Form has a terrible zen use compared to Juyo. Outside of those 6s of gore/precision slash all damage mitigated by armor.
Cooperal Posted March 26, 2012 Posted March 26, 2012 I don't agree with it either. I used combat up to 50 at which point I switched and kept watchman. Watchman itself does seem objectively better at PvE for it's seemingly higher damage output and survivability, but in PvP combat seems to pull itself at least level again with fantastic utilities. Faster combat movement speed, an additional way to break immoblizes on yourself, and some heavily underestimated, short cooldown immobilize attacks, greatly reducing complications with keeping targets in range and sight. The last point additionally complimenting your allies too. If the potential waste of global cooldowns to kiters and circle strafers wasn't a factor however, it would definetly be safer to place your bets on the watchman. For obvious reasons, the combat utilities arn't even a tenth as useful against AI enemies. I think people just fail to realise just how much help they really add up to on humans.
nicolatron Posted March 26, 2012 Posted March 26, 2012 (edited) Faster combat movement speedWith Ataru speed buff not stacking with trascendence and a +30% de trascendence speed in watchman tree (to a whooping 180% speed), plus awesome centering generation to use trascendence wich combat seldom can, watchman is better even in the speed department. As of now, watchman does dps on par if not better than combat (i think it's better but oh well), has similar utility and way more survavility. Anyway Combat is not broken it's viable, but watchman is better, and focus also for warzones. Edited March 26, 2012 by nicolatron
MonkeyManRaygun Posted March 26, 2012 Author Posted March 26, 2012 With Combat you actually don't get kitted very often at all because you have so many immobilizes. Master strike, crippling throw, and force stasis all immobilize. Let alone having a passive 15% speed increase over all classes to make closing distance easier. Not to mention combat users DO still have cauterize to get some DoT on just for good measure. If used properly I just find combat so versatile. I can burst down anyone not in heavy armour below about 40% by using force leap>precision slash (good damage + 100% armour pen)>Master strike (rooting the opponent and ALWAYS taking them off guard, also hardly ever gets interrupted)>Blade storm (If I had a little focus before I leapt in as combat reduces the focus cost of BS by 2, as well as its cooldown AND critical chance AND overall damage)>force stasis. This combo is only countered about 20% of the time and inflicts between 7000-10000 (pending crits and Ataru form strikes) dmg in Champion pvp armour. After I burst someone down I can then start with my DoT and sustained damage. Usually after my burst I will use cauterize to get some DoT going on followed by blade rush which then increases my Ataru form strike chance to 50%, keeping in mind that every time I get an Ataru strike all of my focus spending skills are buffed by 10%. So after my initial burst I now have numbers flying everywhere and an enemy who has either run away, started healing, has cced me or is dead. Pretty effective IMO. Also, screw zen. I prefer inspiration which increases everything I do by 15%. Keep in mind that zen is also fairly useless for focus and only has any real use for watchman. In fact most of the centring skills are bull, the only really useful ones are watchman zen and inspiration (kinda transcendence but its meh) The one thing I will miss if people ever start rolling combat is people actually learning what to do with my MS. Cause currently so few people use combat that they think that Master Strike is completely useless. To a combat user it is probably the most versatile skill you can use. Hitting a ranged class that you want to get some decent damage on without running away? MS. Get into a fight with a panzy who tries to get away from you? MS. Want to negate a con/inquis force sprint? MS. It always just makes me lol my arse off watching someone trying to run away and all of a sudden they get rooted. They don't even turn around to attack me cause they are so bewildered by why they have stopped moving. Just keep holding down w and continue running after I'm done, only with a third of their health missing. Only problem I find with MS is that sometimes the game will bug and the animation will fire but the attack wont actually happen, leaving me vulnerable for 3 seconds. I would like it to get fixed, but because no one uses it, I doubt that will happen for a while. Anyways, just trying to change conceptions about combat, one post at a time
MonkeyManRaygun Posted March 26, 2012 Author Posted March 26, 2012 Survivability I can agree is an issue. I am almost always dead haha. But I would rather get damage off, and like I said, I am almost always the highest dmg dealing melee class in a warzone. Even when up against BM geared watchman sentinels. Numbers tend not to lie. Don't take that as bragging of any kind, im not a kind of guy who goes out just to get massive numbers. It just kinda... happens. I actually get beaten out for damage by guardians and juggs more than I do other sentinels
