Sorry for not being particularly useful for your question, but why not just play a DPS class you enjoy instead of the fotm?

It all depends on your play style.

Vanguard is good up close and 1on1, they should be able to beat most classes on their own. Not sure they are supposed to be as good at DPS as they have been which might account for the nerf (I don't know anything about their nerf though).

Sage's have the choice of healing or ranged DPS but are rubbish in 1on1 (but they are not meant to be good it anyway). Damage out put for Sage can be very good but depends on the situation. Same with any Ranged DPS, they all rely on a good team.

Both play very differently. IF you're used to a vanguard you might not like Sage's though. They die very quickly if focused on, specially if it's a good melee player. Vanguards when played right are extremely tough in comparison.

I'm looking for good DPS, and since vanguard is getting majorly nerfed with the 8/8/25 spec, I was wondering which would be better at the 1.2 standpoint.

Sage DPS is very good in group PvP situations if you are left alone and allowed to spam your attacks.

In other news, Saudi Arabia has elected a cross-dressing homosexual transvestite with convictions for ********ity as their first President after overthrowing the current Sheikh. (This is about as likely as a Sage being left alone to spam attacks in a PvP match.

The Vanguard is a "better" choice for PvP DPS because they are tougher and fewer of their attacks are channeled and interruptable.

However, the "best" Republic DPS class at the moment is probably the JK Sentinel - also the one with the most skills, the longest rotation and the hardest to master. Alternatively, the Trooper Commando is probably the easiest DPS with its reliance on a rotation based on repeated Grav Round spam and the fact that it is ranged, giving it more flexibility.
