Actually they took the RPG out, you don't roleplay and create your character, you are told a story, Bioware claims that it is my story but it is not, its Biowares story.

 

Same thing happens in many other MMORPGs, but they are still role playing games, just not free-form role-playing games. If you want free-form role-playing then the game you want to play is a pen and paper RPG with a willing GM.
