FIRE YOUR ART TEAM

game was released WAY to early

No it wasn't. They had plenty of time to do a good job. BW failed significantly in two areas: a) many really bad design decisions, and b) very poor code execution.

They had plenty of time to design and code properly. They just didn't get the job done. Nobody likes to hear it but this is a case of incompetence at many levels.

They did a great job on a lot of things. Where they are lacking is IMO is in the design area, specifically clothing and armors. Did none of them read Tales of the Jedi? Or play KotOR? I realize BioWare is trying to make a "different" game, but it shouldn't be at the expense of the already established and loved visual identity of that time period in Star Wars.

To grow, the TOR team were hiring relentlessly. Dallas explained that they would travel to game development schools around the US and offer the top ten percent of each graduating class a year long contract to work in Austin. After a year, the very best would then be offered a permanent position. About half of the art was outsourced to different outsourcing studios – causing serious management issues. Eventually, the team took to putting pictures of every outsourced artist on the wall, “and awarding them gold, silver, bronze or ‘fire’, stars. They didn’t know about that at the time,” revealed Richard.

Apparently the art team that was outsourced came from kindergarten classes. Everything is so clear now.

hey bioware, your art team is pretty interesting. on one hand, they made some good looking worlds (too bad your game doesn't care to provide those worlds with any life, but that's for another thread), but on the other hand, they are horrible at designing gear.

it's just bad, and you should feel bad.

Pretty sure that the environment artists are not the same people who design the character models. And you can tell.

I think the problem with these designs is that they look amateur and uninspired (no offense to anyone honestly), on top of that they don't look functional at all. If you're a professional artist and don't know how to make something functional then god help us all. Function > All. Especially in armor design.

Let's take the Knights, for instance. I cannot point out a single piece in that armor set that looks battle ready. Unless your definition of battle ready is crusading never never land with the lost boys. Now look at Adi Granov's Iron Man designs. That is functional, has style and is ready to perform in battle.

This is functional: http://images.darkhorse.com/covers/400/s/swdl6.jpg

Hell even take some queues from the Mass Effect design team, they know how to design armor.

Those links are so much better lol

Maybe BW should do gear design contest at every major updates. And let us vote what we want. Then they can squeeze design time/process.

Yeah problem is you have people in charge at bioware thats not into star wars in any way.

And the sad thing lucasarts dont care about this game when it comes to canon in any way.

There is a reason why in the real canon movie star wars universe jedi etc dont look like complete morons. They actualy look like jedi etc.

Actually what i think is the case maybe lucasarts told bioware that because this game is so far of canon as you can get they said you cannot have real clothing like in the movies.

Who knows. All i know there is a reason why bioware dont make real armors that belongs in the star wars universe.

To put it like this, if anyone working at bioware went up to George and said hey i think your sith and jedi should look like this he would have laught and said, there must be a mental asylum somewere with a big whole in the fence.

Funny how i'm forced to use trooper armor on my jedi with strenght mods because i dont want to look like a character from monty python on crack.

This is not really a problem that if ignored will go away, y'know. I just don't understand why you refuse to officially comment on this nearly universal total & utter hatred of your endgame gear.

A simple acknowledgment that you've heard our whining & that you're trying to do something about it would be sufficient I think. We're speaking to you BioWare, VERY LOUDLY! Can you hear us now? Ok then.

Please respond, please make this a 2-way conversation cause pretending to be a brick wall & ignoring talking about the looks of your gear does not suit you.

Give us a blog on your philosophy for designing armor & clothing in SWTOR, do something to address the issue at hand, man. Just don't ignore it anymore & stop acting so smug by pretending that you think the gear you created looks great & we, the customer's are wrong.

Seeing people wear the gear ingame does not make you right. We wear it cause we HAVE to, not cause we WANT to. We're wearing it for the stats & you'll see the change as the whole SWTOR community across all the servers will all rip out the mods of all your ugly gear in SWTOR & probably just utterly destroy/trash that ugly gear forever once 1.2 hits on the live servers.

On that day, bring in your armor & clothing designers, every one of them that created a piece of gear for SWTOR, have those people do nothing but watch us playing the game as we show you how much we hate the gear they designed for us. Make sure to have alot of tissues. Then fire every one of thoise guys & request help from Lucasfilm & LucasArts to send you new art designers from their huge crop of Star Wars comic book artists.

Speak up!

I remember the 1st screenshots shown for this game that I saw way back in 2009, I wasn't registered here on the forums then but I was shown concept art for SWTOR by someone at theforce.net's forums & we had a long running 50+ page thread over there talking about how ridiculous the Sith Inquisitor looked, even back then we were telling you that SWTOR's gear is weird looking & needed to be redesigned before you even launch the game.

If anything, since you probably won't respond here either BioWare, well at least thanks for allowing me another chance to rant about your silly gear.

Not that there all bad i just think they could do better i agree whoever is working on these models should be fired which leads me to wonder going through all the Forum Avatars you can see alot of cool armors wish they got the team that did that to do the next set of gear!.

Who knows maybe their just holding out on the good stuff for later patches the game isn't even half a year old and they could have just pumped out some fast ****** designs haha but this is me just hoping that's the case!.

Totally frumpy and fugly PvE set for Consular.

And the PvP set it also awkward. In fact, I highlighted why it looks like Mortal Kombat's Scorpion mated with an Antelope: http://redsquadron.org/images/cipher/consular_1dot2_armor.png

I too find all of these very meh.

Can we stop with the weird Fantasy designs and maybe make some stuff that actually looks canon to freaking Star Wars?

Really, the best looking outfits in the game all seem to be the low level crap that you can't viably wear past level 10. Why does higher level gear have to have all this extra garbage hanging off it everywhere? Why can't you make some simple canon outfits, like Darth Maul's Fighting Robe or Luke Skywalker's Jedi Jacket?
