Why do we even need factions?

I mean if I am going to be fighting my own side all the time.. Why even bother.

They couldn't fix Ilum, so they made it obsolele.

They couldn't balance the factions, so they turned into Wraith of Heroes.

"No, you won't be able select specifically which Warzone to join after 1.2 goes live. Instead, Void Star will be changed so that Republic can fight Republic and Empire can fight Empire, a team format shared by Huttball and Novare Coast. "That means that Void Star will fire more often when you're on a server where it's a faction imbalance…There's going to be less of a Huttball bias. We plan to move Alderaan into that group as well, but it won't be ready for 1.2. We're very conscious of the fact that we have servers with a faction imbalance and we have to deal with that."

H8 this change... I had little faction pride before and now I have NONE.

They said fighting your own side on Voidstar/Alderaan will be done in the context of a "Training Simulation" match and might come with a different briefing or something. As far as Role-Playing and immersion is concerned, it's still plausible :p

-face palm- Wow....

They could solve this problem by making cross-server warzones. That would also solve the problem of waiting for queue times. For a late night player like me, its impossible to pvp past 1:00am. If you really want to play with someone from your server then queue with them.

I completely agree with the OP. Bioware has made this game into a joke. Why are bounty hunters aligned with the Empire? Same thing with smugglers and the Republic. There was no thought put into the design of the game. It was basically, lets make a generic MMO and stick Star Wars names over top. This game does not deserve to have Star Wars in the title.

Curious how they admit to faction imbalance at one point and then put up a slide that shows that the imbalance was less than 10 percent or 15.

Are some servers super heavy pub or super light imp or are they just blowing smoke up you know where?

You are absolutely right. Pub v Imp Star Wars is over. From here on out it's Imp Wars, except for the carebears that want to explore Pub-side PvE stories (Smuggler is very good btw...Consuler is horribad).

I will be rolling an Imp with 1.2 since it makes zero sense to remain Pub. It's what I had planned to do in the beginning anyway, but went Pub to help balance things out. My mistake.

They pretty much failed at creating a faction game, failed at creating open world pvp.

+Rep. Absolutely correct and now BW is just cutting their losses. Can't imagine the Imp Wars expansion later this year being very interesting. I will likely be unsubbed at that point, however, given the direction this game is going.

Those numbers definitely do not accurately reflect the faction populations on PvP Servers. They are being washed out by the carebears on PvE servers. I'd bet my lightsaber on it.

Well, Bioware did mention today ONE server where the Republic was 75% of the population. Bioware got teased because that was the only Republic dominated server that they could think of.

You'll never have balanced factions on any server given that people have a choice of what to play. When cross-server warzones happen you should see more faction-based warzones, but at least until then we have the option of more than just Huttball.

If the faction issue bothers you, just Google "Aggressor Squadron" (or watch Top Gun ;)). It is common to train against members of your own military that are setup to use the enemy's tactics. Viewed in that light, Voidstar works.

As far as open world PvP goes, everyone struggles with that. Any naturally unbalanced server is going to make open world pvp unpalatable for the smaller side. Wow's Wintergrasp and Tol Barad have come closest to pretending to be world pvp and that is only because winning gives you access to epic loot pinatas.

They could easily fix this problem by making huttball a Republic vs empire only and no same faction fight in warzones.

This way empire get 30 minutes Queues. Lot of them will faction change because of that.

Causing factions to be slightly more balanced.
