Bit Lost (level 50)

just got to level 50 with my powertech which is my first level 50 character. since the moment I've hit 50 all of the pve quests (like class quests) are damn hard.

for example on the tyrant ship the republic assault droid rip me apart in 3 seconds! and I've got some decent lvl 40+ gear and over 13K HPs.

I feel really weak with my powertech shield tech build, couldn't even finish some of the normal lvl 40 missions (not heroic) on Voss without help.

So.. what I can do to toughen up my char and make him bit stronger so I'll be able to solo missions like I did before?

another issue is space combat.. I've got nearly full purple upgrades to my space ship and only lvl 5 beam generator. Also got shield boost and blaster boost modules. but the space missions are kinda hard for the last 15 levels, any tips?

Btw.. just upgraded Cybertech\Scavenging\Underworld trading to 400 just to find out that they are completely useless. every gear I purchase is better then what I can craft.

My Operative ALT have biochem and it's much more useful, what you think?

Forget space missions after 40 they get stupid hard pretty quick. Do you PvP? some sweet gear available on vendors on the fleet.

Do HM's or regular ops/flashpoints for gear.

Group up :) social items can be fun. It's a MMO for a reason.

PVP here and there but the pvp armors for the bounty hunter looks ugly.. so ugly that I can't look upon them.

then there is the flashpoint social grouping.. you don't have an available group eveytime so you solo here and there, on the last 4 planets I didn't finished even 1 heroic for example.

I think I'll play with an Alt character.

I am also a cybertech and found that for leveling, it was kinda hard to beat, especially as I started getting orange gear for myself and my companions. Sure, the rewards on Ilum are better at 50, but until you're at that point, it's great.

Have you been keeping your companion's gear up to date? I found that not only keeping my stuff but also Torian's and Mako's gear up really helps. I also started using vendor stims for an extra push and the Corellian cocktail (they stack - you can have stim, food, and drink buffs up at the same time). Presence helps your companion do better.

My usual strat is to rock with Torian for most combat. I'll have him burn down the normal mobs while I tank the silvers/golds. If it's a boss mob or a bit of a tougher fight, I bring out Mako for survival.

I also spent a pretty penny when I hit 50 to get some new gear (bracers and belt for myself, Torian, and Mako, new weapon for Torian). I know that the dailies give nice mods but I still bought new barrels for myself and Mako and had my husband make me some enhancements. I'm no longer cake-walking over the mobs like I did when I was leveling, but I am still able to burn through mobs if they don't bug out.

I also started using my interupts/stuns a lot more into my rotation, instead of just trying to burn the mob down.

As for space combat, you get the last purple upgrade from completing the one space mission - I think it may have been Sollust Interception. Did you also buy all the commendation upgrades for your ship? I find that the upgrade that toggles between stronger blasts and stronger shields to be invaluable - if only to burn through the easy missions quicker.

basicly I dunnot how to get a good cybertech schemetics, so it's kinda useless.

all of my team is geared with modeable items.

sterted a maradur and an IA both kicked *** in the pve and my maradur is kicking *** in pvp as well.

Powertech seems kinda useless without dps at his side.

I've just geared up my fresh 50 Powertech, who is also Cybertech/Scav/Underworld. I did this mostly via the Belsavis and Ilum dailies, which I used to upgrade orange gear with level 50 purple armouring, mods and enhancements. It'll take about a week of dailies to get everything you need.

Armouring: you can either craft your own level 49 purple armouring with Cybertech, or buy level 50 purple armouring with daily commendations.

Mods: you can craft your own level 49 purples. However,a better bet is the absorbtion mod obtained from the Heroic 2 daily on Belsavis which rewards a purple mod.

Enhancements: either buy level 49 purples on GTN (expensive) or do the daily Poisonous Strategy Heroic 2 on Ilum which rewards a level 49 purple enhancement (you'll want to choose the absorbtion one). Word of warning, this quest is closer to a Heroic 4 so go with friends.

Weapon: I found a good purple weapon on the GTN but a PvP weapon or orange modded weapon is fine too.

Shield: the Centurion shield from PvP doesn't take much getting and was much better than anything I could find easily available from PVE.

Earpiece & implants: purples bought on GTN. I will upgrade to Rakata gear from daily commendations later. The Rakata gear needs 120 commendations each. I felt my first daily commendations were better invested in the level 50 armouring, as this helps me get up and running faster.

Relics: alignment based blue relics on GTN or purple relics from PvP.

As well as upgrading all your own gear, make sure to upgrade Mako too. She is your best bet for endgame content, as the heals will get you through stuff safely. I break out Blizz when I'm bored though in order to live a bit more dangerously :)

You must be undergeared or something, I finished my class quests the other day, I was 47 at the time. ST spec in dps gear and a shield with Mako, I ripped through the quests and I don't remember dieing once. Powertech is by far the easiest class I've taken to 50 so far.

Either your gear is bad, your pets' gear is bad, and/or your talent spec is wrong. What are your defensive stats like? What is your talent spec like? I have a lvl 50 shieldtech, never had a problem doing class or daily missions, and I use dps pets strictly (except for champs). I have had dps classes impressed with my dps, actually.

If you are cybertech, why aren't all your armorings/mods lvl 49 already (and at least blues). You should also have a lvl 49 crit craft earring for you and your pets, make it purple to last until you earn the daily comms to replace it with a rak one.

As mentioned before,

Race: Cybertech

Class: Bounty Hunter / Powertech

Tree: Shield Tech

I'll focus on my character stats and not on my pets.

stats: http://img802.imageshack.us/img802/6688/58822262.jpg

Skills: http://img33.imageshack.us/img33/4715/61704219.jpg

My gear is very devent all of it is moded with lvl 45+ most of it 48..

regarding skills I'm truly thinking to abandon cybertech for slicing and underworld tracking for bioanalasis (sorry for the typo).

from what I remember all of the skills (scavanging, bioanalasis and slicing) allows special actions during flashpoints and slicing is good for cash.

Heres one big thing... you're a cybertech, stuff your gear with L49 purples!

Take the green supercommando armouring from the trainer, reverse engineer it to blue, RE it to purple... and improve your stats!

For a full shield-tech build, you items seem way off the mark. You must be packing surge/crit in some items for your crit chance and multiplier to look like that, and you're completely lacking in defensive stats. Base defense... no shield rating in your gear (as you have 12% from your skill build, 15% from ion gas cylinder... means you're only getting 5% from your gear, which I presume is the base 5% from your equipped shield), no absorb in your gear either (as you have 20% from your equipped shield and 6% from ablative upgrades in your skill build. Your skill tree build is all tank, but your gear is no tank.

Use your 400 cybertech to reverse engineer yourself a good earpiece (getting one of the ones with +60 defense would be a good start to jump you over that 5% defense you have at the moment).

If you want to play a shield tech tanking build, get some tanking stats into your gear, wheres the absorb/defense/shield in your mods? Currently, you have a tanking skill tree which is limiting your offensive ability, and yet gear which is giving you no help defensively - sounds like this explains why you have trouble killing stuff and also go down too quickly.

Also, for a PvE shield tech build, it looks a little off... you look to have a few skills in there that would be useful for pvp but not for pve. Have a look at this one and see what you think instead: http://www.torhead.com/skill-calc#301G0GrdorogzZMsbZb.1

Makes rocket punch stronger, which should be your 'main move', and crucially makes shielding attacks finish the cooldown on rocket punch.

From just looking at the relative levels of your mods it might seem like its decent, but it has to have the right stats for your skill build, you can't expect any high level mod to work in your build regardless of what stats it has. How can it seem like a good idea to play a shield tech build without any absorb or shield rating in your gear?

Wow thanks for the tips. actually never bothered with cyber-tech but I'll take your advice, tweak my skill tree and cyber-tech reveres engineering into the purple version. I'll be back with updated stats after that.

Thanks.

Might be worthwhile having a read of the reverse engineering guide here:

http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?t=258426

Reverse engineering the armouring/mods is straighforward, they just get an increase of the current stats they have when they reverse engineer into a better schematic.

The earpieces though are a lot more complicated and follow the 'prefix reverse engineering' thing thats in that thread. I think for a shield-tech powertech, the ideal earpiece is a Veracity galactic combat module [Mastercraft] but it takes quite a lot of effort to get there.

I've tried working with cybertech and for some reason I've got broke and lost nearly all of my money for the mats needed for crafting so I've decided to dump cybertech and take back slicing.

Now I have slicing, scavenging and undeworld trading.

with Gault I do underworld trading for companion gifts, beside the useless droid all of my companions have over 7K affection.

Scavenging and slicing allow me during flashpoints and such to open new toutes or repair droids to fight for me etc but mostly lockboxes + recover mats from dead stuff.

Using my 3 new skills + GTN I'm making loads of cash right now so I think I'll stick with them.

anyway I've read somewhere that after finishing the story line of my quest I get a new mission on the imp fleet for dailies on belsavis etc which give pve gear tokens? so I've went to corellia (sorry for the typos if there are any) and I'm steamrolling that planet right now.

About gear my server is kinda lame with the number of people online so the gtn is not very crowded with good high end gear to purchase I might play few warzones for pvp shield/implants/earpiece and I have 2 yellow matrix shards just need one more for the relic. got 2 blue or red as well can't remember which one for a second relic.

13k as a lev. 50 power tech? Something wrong there.

You have a few choices. For starters your ratio for AIM to END is off pace. AIM is a primary stat but at shield-tech you need to be looking for END as the bigger number - normally they have AIM slightly less and then either shield or defence chance. Im a lev 50 power-tech (shield) and my END is over 2000 to about 1500 AIM (give or take). You also need to stack that shield proc/absorb line as its way too low.

You have to accept that your DPS will fall off. That brings me to my second bit of advice. It looks like you are trying to spec you toon to range tank and not to go close quarters - I say this as you have not taken the damage boost for rocket punch but you have for rail shot. Your biggest damage comes from close range - rocket punch, flamethrower etc. You can range tank but should only do that to kite something - dont try and do your dps from a distance.

You have some weird skills also, im guessing that is because you PVP, but if not - Im not sure why you have them.

Jet Speed? not needed as you shouldnt be running around in PVE

Rail Loaders? Waste of time as it doesnt register on your DPS to be honest.

No Escape? Pointless in anything but PVP and even then its naff.

No 'Iron Fist' and no 'Flame Shield' - these are PRIMARY dps skills - you need them.

Easiest way to get gear is run HCs and PVP - a full set of Supercommando PVP gear will give you about 18k, allowing you to then run raids to get the Columi gear, which gives you about 22k. If you want to look at the type of gear you should be getting, have a look at the raid gear vendor and pick gear with similar stats.

Ive attached my spec (if it loads up) as it should help.

http://www.torhead.com/skill-calc#301GoGrdorogzZMcbZb.1

I've tanked every raid in the game with this spec, no issues and it makes you all but indestructable when you have your shield proc (north of 40% is good) and shield absorb (again, 40-50% is good) raised up with gear.

As I said, your DPS will fall off in the short term and you NEED better gear buddy - regardless of spec, but eventually you will be a God amongst men when it comes to damage absorbing...

Hope it helps..

finished bh storyline today.

Basically my biggest problem is that I'm on some uncrowded server and it's a major pain to pvp. getting gear is painful as well as GTN is kinda empty because the lack of people. I think I'll have no choice but to replace a server.... :(
