nwojedi
Maybe this will answer all the questions to guardian tanking. Itis actually interesting how bioware/Ea set up the guardian tank tree. After a quick comparison to a shadow tanks spec here is MY conclusion: 1) Guardian tank tree needs rework Looking at the shadow tank tree, in there 2nd tier they have Mental Fortitude (increases endurance 1/2/3%) and Expertise (increases dmg of technique abils 3/6%). Guardian has Protector (increases endurance 2/4%) but thats way up in the Vigilance tree. There is nothing that increases threat, only damage. Increasing damage on abils is good, only if it has a moderate cd..not 1 min. Guardian slash, excellent trheat starter but using once every 15s hurts a lil. These are survivability talents and they should be in a tank tree as shadow is per se. Not sure why, but they stick abilis like Profound resolustion (reduces cd on resolute) in the tank tree. 2) Make Pommel strike and Opportune strike not limited to condition. These 2 abils are decent dps abils..but they are limited to conditions (such as freeze, stun etc.). They should not be limited seeing that the damage scales down by weaker/stronger mobs. But also, 45s and 15s cds leaves quite a bit of filler time which these could be reworked to fill in greatly. 3) Guard should not be range appropriate I've heard/read where people say that if guard is on the range or outside a certain range, it has no effect. If this is true, it needs to be adjusted accordingly. 4) Make sure dps/threat scales according to gear. Sometimes it seems that the dps doesn't scale with gear. If dps doesn't scale, then the threat doesn't scale. 5) Give shields a dmg tick After looking at the tree, it looks like guardians have to be meat shields. If thats true (and im not against that) then Blade barrier should have a dmg tick for the duration. Dmg ticks give a small bonus to dps and threat especially to multiple mobs. These are just a few of the things I'VE SEEN that could be changed. There are more...but these could be looked at first to make guardian more effective. We've said this since beta and it has been repeated ad nauseum. The majority of the Guardian's tank tree is getting damage output/focus generation back up to where it needs to be because of Soresu's focus reduction, whereas the others, since they don't take a damage/dps/focus/whatever reduction, get boosts to their tanking abilities. 2) Make Pommel strike and Opportune strike not limited to condition. You will never be able to use them in any pvp situation, and rarely in any pve boss fight. 3) Guard should not be range appropriate I've heard/read where people say that if guard is on the range or outside a certain range, it has no effect. If this is true, it needs to be adjusted accordingly. Guard is fine, just not very useful for us, since our armor mitigation and general survivability sucks. 4) Make sure dps/threat scales according to gear. Meh, the whole tree needs gutted and rebuilt from the ground up. Edited March 5, 2012 by JefferyClark

Ashmadai
Yeah, the Guardian tanking tree is missing things like particle accelerated projects, and damage boosted TK throws healing the shadow, or even things like the extra crit chance/dmg on stock strike, and the talent that makes stock strike's cooldown reset. They really need to overhaul the defense tree for Guardians, period, because I typically love tanking, but I had to switch to Vigilance to keep my interest in playing my Guardian end game. nwojedi
Meh, I just have to do it properly per some protocol droid (who wishes to remain anonymous but its protocol droid w3-q6) so some DEV can see this post and DO something about it. Hopefully enough people reply and they see this and ADDRESS this issue.

Herew
They should just rename the "Defense" tree to "Control" instead, thus once and for all confirming that there is no true Tank tree.
