PT tank against Supreme Guard?

Who's sick joke was it to put the 2 Supreme Guards at the last door in Number One with a Bullet?

As a tank PT it is an impossible fight. They just heal each other and when you try to get in close to interrupt, they just knock you back over and over.

Someone need to take a look at this. One should be changed to a dps class with a heal.

It is a good time to show the importance of interrupts in the game, especially moving forward towards level 50 content.

However, my problem with that fight is that the 2 Supreme Guards also have no way of actually killing you, even if you are AFK, which to me is bad design.

If you want to drive home the need to interrupt healers, they should also punish the player's inability to interrupt, by killing them, and not by annoying them to death.

One of the basic game balance ideas is that the amount of offensive power available, should be almost the same as the amount of defensive power available. Otherwise there is no decision making involved. However, there should be a little bit more offensive power to avoid a stalemate.

So yeah, you either interrupt them well or bring more DPS.

Another issue which is quite common in MMOs is that grouping mobs with identical skill lists and identical behaviour scripts together causes issues.

it was tough for me as shieldtech + mako. i eventually just geared the F out of gault and plowed through them with him. try maxing your DPS and just burning them down.

also have been using said pimped gault ever since.

I had no problem with the supreme gaurds on my defense specced BH tank with Mako for healing.

I did die the first time because I didn't know what was going on, but on the 2nd attempt I had no trouble with it because I figured out what was going on in the 1st attempt.

I actually think what I ended up doing was getting them spaced apart from each other and Mako drew aggro on one of them and I got the other spaced away and it made it much easier to kill one.

Also, it's "Surpreme" according to my loading screen.

I had trouble with these as full tank spec. In the end I beat them by switching Mako's gear to Gault and going full out DPS on one of them guards, interupting either guard whenever possible.

The alternative is to ask another BH to help you in the fight. I had a BH ask me to help him with it, and as I remember how difficult it was to take them down, I was more than willing to help him out. Hopefully there are other BHs like me on your server :)

It took a long time - but far from impossible. As other said, interrupt, manage your interrupt cooldowns and slowly rocket punch them to death. Dont forget jet charge is an interrupt too.

There's a quest on illum which if solo'd also has you fighting 2 supply masters (healers with ehaling spells and medpacks) and some dps loser. That was a massive ball-ache, I literally stood there for like 15min killing 3 mobs....sad times

The only reason I could not kill them first try is because I was SEVERELY undergeared. I rushed through Corellia to finish Act 3 ASAP and regret it. It would have been a more epic finale if I owned everything.

Otherwise, Supreme Guard really isn't that bad. I was able to kill one before dying despite my poorly maintained gear.

The key things are:

1) ALWAYS Quell/Carbonize your current target's heals.

2) Make sure you are swapping targets to Electro Dart the second Guard to interrupt his heals. If you are getting your target low but the other guy starts casting his heal, you want to stun the second and then burn as much HP off your current target over the next 4 seconds.

Heroic Moment helps near the 30% HP mark of the first Guard so you can Electro Dart again to interrupt yet a second heal on the second Guard. This gives you 8 seconds where the first Guard will not be healed (assuming you keep Quelling his casts as well).

3) As ST, use Jet Charge to get back into melee (run a few yards away from the Guard to enable the Charge if needed). As AP, you can use Hydraulic Overrides to avoid knockback. As PyroTech, most of your damage is via Flame Burst -> refreshed Rail Shot as well as DoTs, so you should not be nearly as negatively impacted by knockback. Heck, your enemies will die so fast it doesn't matter anyway.

4) USE THE CORRECT COMPANION. Mako is cute and spunky and is voiced by the crazy hot Lacey Chabert - that does NOT mean she is the best companion for your character! If you are a tank or healer, USE A DPS companion (Torian/Gault)! If you are AP or PyroTech, feel free to use Mako (especially for the 8 second channeled CC) or, better yet, Torian/Gault as both an off-tank (use defensive cooldown) + extra stupid-awesome DPS to kill tough enemies in record time. Only if you are a DPS Merc who has cast times that can be pushed back or interrupted would I truly recommend you use a tank companion to take the heat off of you.

5) This is so important it isn't even funny - if you are a tank DO NOT use a healer companion (and vice-versa)! This is a repeat of #4 but so many players regardless of class continue to make this grave mistake. Double tank, double healer, and tank + healer make no sense for a majority of the combat you perform in this game. Outside of battles of attrition, such as soloing a Champion, these combos only hurt you. Leveling takes forever and combat gets mind-numbingly boring as you have to repeat your damage rotations more times than you should ever have to. Powertechs, if you are able to cast Explosive Dart twice when fighting 3+ enemies that are meant to be soloable, you are doing something terribly wrong (gear is poor or your companion+spec combo is low on DPS).

Am I like the only person that killed them on the first try? with my Mako out?

I had no problems, using Mako, was level 50, had purple armor and base mods in my gear, otherwise 40 to 45 blue gear.

took a while, but got them in one go.

I had no problem at level 49, full tank spec, par gear, with mako with poor gear. It's all about interupts. No offense, but if your struggle on these, you'll probably need hand holding in FP's and Ops later.

  • 2 weeks later...

I hit 50, tried this quest, and wound up banging my head against a wall. No matter what I did or which companion I had out as a PT tank, I just could not get them to die.

Fast forward several weeks and a transition from orange to (almost) full purple gear, and I crushed them in one attempt as a DPS-spec PT with Torian. For me it was emphatically a gear issue, and I suspect that's what most folks with problems are experiencing.

Why does this issue keep coming up over and over. Put on some dps gear (without changing spec), get Gault or Torian out, have him focus dps on the same one you are, one interrupt and it is all over.

Killed them at 47, full tank specced with Mako. Wasn't in any particular great gear either and thought the fight was pretty easy with a standard interrupt rotation going. Learn your abilities and manage them successfully and you will succeed.

Thank you....This worked for me.

No, but I've seen a ton of posts about this since launch. I never understood, didn't even know it was an issue. I just rolled through that even as ST at the time, not even Pyro. I was lvl 47 in w/e quest gear I had picked up. Wasn't a problem even back at launch (without all the extra heroic moments you get if you have another 50). Pyro now will blow them up fast. You have interupts/stuns your comp has stuns. Use em.
