Just want to make a side note... as far as being wanted in groups, generally speaking snipers are more wanted, but I don't think it's really because of anything other than the rarity of seeing them, at least on the servers I play on. I see operatives all the time, but only a few snipers here and there (which leads back to operatives being somewhat more fun and versatile, so more people want to play them, and so on).

That said, I have LOVED my sniper, and I played as an operative in Beta. But then, I've always been the archer/ranger/hunter/sniper type in most mmo's, so... I'm biased. :p

In General if you like Healing it has to be an Operative, if you like PvP, Operative is way better and a lot more fun if im Honest.

1. Which do you think is better in PvP? (if equal gear) leveling 1-49?

>Sniper, hands down. The bolster buff makes the Sniper abilities hit like supernovas. Plus the excellent amount of target control, lack of super-heavy opponents, and the Cover defenses offered by early Marksman talents can make you very hard to kill.

2. Which do you think is better in PvP (if equal gear) at 50?

>I can't really give this one to either class. A expertly-played Sniper can literally flatten an enemy in seconds, but will have difficultly against Tank-spec'd characters. The Operative will do more even damage across the board (while still being bursty), but is hindered by range and control.

3. Which do you think is better in PvE? (if equal gear) leveling 1-49?

>In the context of the Pure DPS role (since Sniper's cannot heal): Sniper. We do absolutely titanic single-target damage, moderate AoE damage, and can reduce a target's armor for the rest of our group. In addition, our defensive Cooldowns + talents allow us to take care of ourselves, while at the same time protecting our entire group with Ballistic Shield.

4. Which do you think is better in PvE? at 50 (if equal gear)

>See above answer. [Sniper]

5. Which do you think is more fun to play in PvP?

>This is subjective. I personally enjoy my Sniper's playstyle more, and am more effective and successful in Warzones because of it. I enjoy healing in WZ's on my Operative, but it paints a huge-**** target as soon as they figure out where the source of the healing, and usually means you'll be hunted for the rest of the match.

6. Which do you think is more fun to play in PvE?

>Also subjective. This is more of a toss-up; I generally play my Sniper more, but healing hardmodes on my Operative is also quite fun.

7. Which do you think is more wanted in groups?

>Again in the context of Pure DPS: Sniper. We just bring more damage to the fight, and slightly more group utility.

8. Which do you think is harder to play well (higher skill cap) PvP?

>Subjective, but it's generally known that Operative's have it harder. Without the fantastic target control Sniper's get, Operatives have to flawlessly execute every play to ensure victory. Operative healing also lacks a lot of the more bursty/chunky healing that Mercenaries/Sorcerers get, making it difficult to save teammates who've lost too much health. Surgical Probe has a chance, but with Execution attacks at %30, plus talents that buff damage when lower than %30, it's almost always too late.

9. Which do you think is harder to play well (higher skill cap) PvE?

>This is difficult to answer. Currently, Operatives, since their class mechanics are somewhat broken. But if the the two Advanced Classes were equal, I would have to say Sniper. Cover dancing is not a quickly-learned art, and two of the three Sniper specs have issues with no energy regeneration available.

10. Which do you think is cooler overall or is it a toss-up?

>The last subjective. I think my Sniper is much cooler. Grand Moff uniform with a full-face visor helmet (one from the Progression video), plus a huge, sleek cannon hanging off my back. Not to mention the erection-inducing DPS he can output.

Thank You guys,

this is very informative thread for me. I have lv50 operative, valor 40 and lv22 sniper, valor 1, so i still cant compare exactly.

If i would summarize my experience so far in one sentence, then - operative is more fun to play for me, but sniper hits like truck...:)

I could easily go through your list of questions but seeing I have a lvl 50 Operative and have only been a medic specced Operative since lvl 10 I can only comment on Heal Spec Operative only. While Sorc healers can out heal you (they seem to have unluimited resources) a good Heal Operative willing to learn their class and energy management is a HUGE asset. I constantly am sought after in BOTH PvP AND PvE for healing abilities and since the update to warzones I no longer feel cheated out of hard work (and being first target). I have run Ops and hard modes in PvE and after geting some gear things got way easier. Really I assume just like every class it depends on how you spec, stats you choose to prioritize, and your willingness to work at it. Healing Operatives dont have it easy by far buta good one is an asset.

That's just my 2 cents since everyone is talking DPS. As stated before I have not rolled sniper or DPS Operative so I am not able to adequately comment on them
